    Here is the video log update for my recovery following the distal bicep
    tendon rupture surgery.
    This is the point where I can start lifting heavier weights so I give
    you an update on what movement I have, what strength I have regained
    and what muscle mass I have held onto.

    Thanks! Your videos have been very helpful. I ruptured my left distal biceps 1 month ago, I am a surgeon and am inspired to fully recover. Patience is the lesson.

    Thank you Ben for taking the time to post these very relevant videos of your post op routine. I tore my distal bicep tendon on Oct 5, 2021 and had surgery on Oct 12. I immediately went on CZcams and found several videos regarding this type of injury, surgery, and along with several others, yours was very insightful. We have the same type of body structure and mass, probably even the same type of workout routines so I identified with your struggle immediately and took your advice. I’m in my 4th week of PT and even though I probably could be back in the gym now, I am being a little overly cautious just because i want it to heal properly and honestly, I’m a little nervous to pull the trigger just yet with my recovering gimpy left bicep 🤣🤣. Appreciate all you did. It helped tremendously. Thank you 🙏🏻

    As a vain, highly active fitness professional myself these videos were super helpful in addressing my questions about how quickly I’d realistically get back to lifting after surgery. Four months sounds like torture

    I am one week post surgery. I loaded up 2 weeks prior with 2iu of Omnitrope HGH, and will continue post op for one year at that dose. HGH is the game changer for any orthopedic procedure. I have had both shoulders and one knee surgery and told my doctor about my use. He fully endorses it.

    Ben, I am day two out of surgery. I tore my R distal bicep tendon lifting my kayak onto my car after a 7 mile trip. I’m still in my cast, with my sling and it’s quite painful. I have not yet seen the incision. I’m doing range of motion with my fingers. Any movement beyond that is causing muscle spasm in the forearm. I appreciate that you created these videos. I’ve watched the whole series. I wonder how you’re doing now? As you mentioned in your video, I have some paranoia that this could easily happen again. When mine happened it was like a rubber band snapping with immediate and complete loss of strength. I could see that the bicep was sitting high in the arm. I keep wishing I could go back and do the lift differently. During the lift my form as far as using my knees was flawless. As I went to pop the kayak over my head, my arm was straight with no tension on the bicep. I can’t help but wonder if I would’ve had my arm slightly bent with some tension on the bicep, with the push to get the kayak over my head if the tendon still would’ve been damaged? Anyway, thank you for your videos. curious how you’re doing now?

    depends if you have the screw from the top or not? some surgeons opt out of that top screw/plug, just the pin behind the Bone the hole surgeon drilled to secure the self tightening knot with tendon...5 weeks i could hyper extend elbow also pro and supination wrist same as other hand,of course every person is different...
    thanks ben your videos are very inspirational on an injury that can be hard to fully recover from...logical and informative

    So, I have tendonitis in my left distal bicep. I guess it's the precursor to a partial tear which is the precursor to a total rupture. How did you stay so fit with your injury? I've still been doing leg day(just squats), ab workouts without resistance(an ripper x anyone?) and lots of cardio to maintain my body weight. Also maintaining my nutrition so I don't fall off track with that either. It's been 7 weeks since I've lifted heavy. That pain itself is not bad when it's under load, just mild and nagging. I'm curious as to how much longer it'll be before it heals. I take collagen almost daily. Lots of protein intake, as well as essential amino acids and creatine. Just ordered some bpc 157 to see if that'll help because not lifting is driving me nuts. Early may was my last heavy lifting session. I'm curious as to how much longer it'll be with what I'm doing. Also including some light weighted eccentrics on the arm as well a couple times a week to promote collagen synthesis. I also use capsacin cream or methonalted roll on to the same inner elbow area to help promote blood flow... I'm trying everything I can to heal this tendon

  • @2Bdiscovered
    @2Bdiscovered Před 3 lety +1

    I READ THAT YOU HAVE TO WAIT UP TO 12 WEEKS BEFORE YOU CAN START REHABILITATION. IS THAT MAYBE WHY YOU DIDNT GET FULL RANGE OF MOTION AND SOME PAIN STILL? BECAUSE YOU STARTED LIFTING QUITE SOON? IM ONLY ASKING CUZ I WANNA MAKE SURE THAT IM FULLY HEALED BEFORE I START LIFTING AGAIN AND I DONT WANT TO SCREW IT UP..

    Hi Ben!...I had my Surgery around 6 weeks ago, and i seem to have the same problem as you with pronation at 90 degrees.....i saw your video, and the fact that even after 1 year, you still had the same problem with pronation....Now this is really SCARY!!....without a proper pronation, i even find it difficult to type on my computer keyboard and lots of other things....i really need to be able to pronate and get the palm of my hands flat down at 90 degrees......Did you find out how to resolve this!?? is it really because you exercised too much...? it seems you already had that pronation issue earlier on....do you think this is the Surgeon's fault!?...and more important...what can be done to fix it? is constant PT enough, or something more drastic? or Wave Shock therapy etc....! Anyways....i am quite worried...as i went in to fix my bicep, and came out, with an even worse issue....

    I got a surgery where they at aches my biceps distal tendon to the radius. I'm 35 and have done weight lifting all.my life as an amateur bodybuilder 90kg and 10%-8% average fat. I am in my 4th month of my distal tendon biceps recovery and I'm doing pushups. No pain and gaining muscle mass again. Do you think I should go to failure when doing pushups? I feel I want to make my push up sessions more intense since Im only going short to failure or moderate intensity on my sets. I'm doing 12 reps per set total 4 sets. What do you think?

    Hey mate ive got my distal bicep reattchment operation tommorow, i snapped mine about 8 days ago lifting tractor tires,
    I had 5 days off and then was back in the gym, i felt a little lost without the gym,
    Obviously im not using my damaged side but i fully intend to train round it no matter what,
    My question to you is that post op, was you able to do any kind of chest / shoulder / back training on youre damaged side,
    Because ive accepted that my bicep / tricep will atrophy,
    But im hoping there will be things i can do to prevent my other parts from atrophying,
    Any ideas?
    Cheers @ben carpenter

      No don't work your injured side at all until 6 weeks. At 6 weeks you can begin to lift low weight and increase the weight each week. I worked my uninjured side almost immediately post surgery and my injured side caught up after around 14 weeks post surgery.

    • @stupissed
      @stupissed Před 6 lety

      Adam McGrath ok mate cheers, is that what youre doctor advised you to do, or just what you decided to do?
      Im 7 weeks post op now,
      Cast & sling are both off,
      Ive bin told to just do light / none repetative activities,
      But nothings bin said about any type of weight training,
      I assumed theyd advise to do it the way you mentioned but they havent, i was hoping id be using resistance bands by now to get my atrophied side back in the swing of it,
      but theyve basically said no weight training at all untill the 6 month period,
      unless im missing something!?!

    i had the surgery 11 weeks ago. thing i noticed is that the bicep is not at the same location as my other arm. the surgery arm is about 1" up towards my shoulder than my good arm. is this normal?

    • @raymondk2202
      @raymondk2202 Před 8 lety

      +B Ba i had/have that too. After being in a cast and then a brace for a totall of 8 weeks your upper bicep tendons are shorter because of ur arm being in an angle continuesly. I'm in week 13 now and it only looks different when i load it with training. WHen i came out of the brace and stuff it was much worse then what it is now. When i straighten out my arms there is no difference (exept for some size) but after i bent it and then flex it there is about an inch of space in between the underside of my bicep and the 90 point inside of my elbow. But it is less then b4

      how's your recovering going in terms of building up strenght?
      I'm very afraid to overload it, slowly building it up with a few kg a week. Bicep exersize is controlable when it comes to load, but things like pulling and pushing it's all just a guess on how much the bicep needs to do

      I covered what happened in the first video (week one update). It was very obvious. There was a tearing feeling and you saw the bicep ping up the arm towards the shoulder which is what happens when you completely rupture a muscle. It wasn't a pleasant feeling lol. :)
