I never pack like this and ive never seen it actually recommended. Only if the wing is super old e.g. kiting only where you dont care about its health... ill explain:
By folding in the middle like that you cause extra wear to the top surface fabric, as its the outside of the fold it is under extra stress. And you do this repeatedly = bad idea. You also can damage the leading edge reinforcement in the middle... why not just cell-pack as normal? All together, all facing the same way, no fold in the middle. Then, when you Z fold it for the backpack you alternate each time you pack it away. Simple, best way, recommended by many good pilots and instructors 👍

      Thanks for your thoughts.
I have packed my gliders like this for many years, and have never seen any unormal wear and tear from it.
Been tested at professionally paraglider service.
Its also like this i learned to pack on my course back in 2009.
And also how i recive the glider from fabric when its bought new.

@@JoarABTheflyingraven that would make sense because it seems quite an "old-school" method... dont see it any more. Concertina the whole wing, every cell together, this protects the rods and the complex internal structure of modern wings.
I dont think the argument of SOME manufacturers sending new wings like this means it is a good idea for every day. (They are in the business of selling you a new wing, remember!) 😉
In my experience, Ozone, BGD, AirDesign and others send their new wings in full concertina, no fold in the middle. Just sayin!
