Lord's was shelling peas for the England bowlers. Trent Bridge was a good competitive test for a bit over three days, first day here was good. The calendar simply takes away from the quality of test cricket, whilst giving us a year full of meaningless Franchise tournaments which are forgotten the day after they finish and don't even do what they're supposed to do, which is make money.

Make the County Championship the 4-day version of the IPL, given the interest in test cricket in England that would absolutely be the smart move.

poetic justice that a hawk(kinda) appears in the background at 6:11 the very moment George talks about the nighthawk lol

Yes Yes Yes George. T20 market is saturated and 100 won’t work for the India market due to time difference and no Indians playing. Market the CC as the best red ball comp in the world, highlight the overseas to attract their viewing. Indians are loving the CZcams streams with Shaw and Rahane playing, and it’ll be their afternoon/evening viewing. Give it a weekly highlights show on BBC to boot

Do you think that is realistic, the reason why twenty twenty was invented is that county cricket and the county championship in particular, were attracting low crowds?

I'm no socialist or communist but maybe all money earned in cricket should go into a huge fund and be distributed equally, and there should be a semi fixed touring schedule requirement where a visiting team gets x amount of warm up games.
You might get slightly less cricket overall, but it would be at a much higher level

That's the only way Test cricket can survive. At the moment the big three have all the money and the rest can't compete.

Why is no one playing two innings 20/20? Test style. None of this, out in the first innings, no bat in the second rubbish.
80 over game. Done in a day. Opportunities for one team to dominate and then be dominated, a la test cricket.
And it is a natural jump up to test cricket from that version.

The "big three" need to start subsiding the other countries. Test cricket can't survive with only three top teams.

the only way the indian market is going to take an interest in cricket in England is if Indian players are involved. which until the BCCI reviews its position on NOCs means international cricket.

Test cricket is dying and will get less and less, the only way to save it is to offer the players more money than they get for franchise cricket and that wont happen, get used to bish bash bosh T20 ,i dont like it but thats where the money is

Who are we trying to rescue test cricket for? If its for players, there is nothing stopping them from playing it.. They just wont make money out of it.. Lot of people play sport for the joy rather than money.. Even a lot of olympic sport. If its for the audience, it has been proven that people are not going to invest that amount of time to make it a commercial success.. It does not mean they are not interested.. Just that sport isn't worth so much investment.
My proposal is to globalise Instant cricket (T20, T10, Hundred.. Any). There will be too many players and not enough opportunity. Position Test Cricket as an alternative, lower paying option that people can play to sustain themselves or for the love of the challenge.
George, if you did not earn a living from the sport, would you invest 5 days of your life to follow a sport?

Why would you be? The time zone of a tournament like The Hundred isn't good for India and there are no Indian players. Other Franchise tournaments are not going to take big money from Indian broadcasters, especially with gambling being illegal (I think?) in India.
