What an incredible place London is
Definitely going there!
Visiting London on April 2019, from Las Vegas, Nevada. Screw the night clubs, weâve got plenty . I am all up for Old Stuff...
I could almost smell the beer, there is nothing like a London pub, its one of the things I miss about England
I looove these old places, filled with History and stories, wood, good beer, interesting people, folk music, simple but excellent little dishes, passionned owners... Everytime I go to an old pub or tavern I feel at home !
From Australia! I love this.
I'm a Jewled citizen and this is what I love about the entire UK.
This old publican was fantastic.
Love the good British ale that goes with it.
Agree with you about English mustard only mustard I useđđ.
Anyhow cheers from OZđ»đ»đ»đ»đ»đ».
Great little pub hidden away.
That little pub is so quaint really good video
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video
Why on earth should anybody mistake a lion for a Griffin?
Very nice pub !
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video
It's all about old traditional pubs in London if you want a good beer. Don' t go to those hipster places and expect a good beer.
Ps. London Pride is one of my favorites :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video

So sad that many London pubs have gone.specialy round the East end.heart breaking.
It took a while but eventually found this back in 2018, outstanding pubđ
Brilliant.....family were true cockneys for many generations.....had the best back slang and life under the setbacks ever....have a great day.....
I love all of the history you give in your videos. Hopefully in the next few year I will be able to visit these places personally.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Once again thank you Robert for a snapshot and memories for this ex-Londoner. Really enjoy the updates. BTW, my mum was a true born cockney.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
I enjoy all your videos but this may very well be your best. Thanks and bravo.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Nice job, thank you. I will add this to my next visit.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video
Good video. I'm partial to Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese myself, but all these pubs are fantastic
The music used here is *chefs kiss
I once pulled a pint at the Olde Mitre. Scotty, the now-retired barman insisted. Couldn't wear my hat behind the bar, he also insisted. A superb place. If Britain should be known for anything, it's the pubs. Never mind the steam engine, the jet engine, radar, penicillin and parliamentary democracy, it's the pubs! Cripes, I wish I was there right now.
Just got back from 10 days in London, your videos were great to help me plan out my trip. Thanks and keep up the good work.Jim in Seattle

Really nice editing, full of useful directions
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video - Merry Christmas!
I like your videos, very interesting thanks. Al
Miss going to the pubs in England. Left in 1986 really miss it especially the cask conditioned hand pumped ales that America is slowly starting to know about. There is nothing better!!!
My gt. gt. gt. grandfather was born in Ely Place in 1821. I like to think he may have had a beer in the pub!
Daniel Radcliffe was in here talking about his ancestory on who do you think you are. The other day.
Reallllllllllllllly enjoyed this! We'll be in London next month on our way from Oregon USA to CRUFTS! Sure hope we can find this hidden gem of a pub. Help us out? I'll treat to a pint!.... Cheers, Jerry
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Cool!
The Mitre was re-done inside in the 1930âs. I wonder how many soldiers stopped in there for a pint when on leave in ww2? Interesting stories!
Boy this was the hardest pub I've ever looked for .quick tip : do what I did just ask the car park attendant near by he'll point you straight there..cheers!
love London Pride def one of the best beers around! looking for this spot next time. Been to The Old Cheshire Cheese, Lamb and Flag, and The Spaniards Inn. Def going to track down The Mitre.
Great Prices at Ye Olde Mitre
That pride is cloudy
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Added Ye Olde Mitre Tavern as a place to visit. Hopefully in the next year and half.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
It's not pronounced Ee-lie. It's pronounced Ee-lee. It's a cathedral city in the fens.
@@grahamjonathan762 Yes, it's Ee-lie in Cockney, but it wasn't there before Ely cathedral was built, quite the opposite. The area belonged to the Bishops of Ely and was their London address.
@@grahamjonathan762
I will, thanks. But are you suggesting that it was called Ely Place before it was acquired by the Bishops of Ely? That sounds to me either an incredible coincidence or an example of nominative determinism gone mad!
Ely is pronounced Eelee as it was built on the site of the townhouse of the Bishops of Ely.
good vid
Sitting at the bar in my basement pub The Piebald Cat on the West Coast of Canada and watching this. 07.48 you pick up a glass of London Pride. I am drinking out of a London Pride glass..........Spooky!
awsm
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Is there any way we can still watch your Amazon Prime show?
English mustard is the bees knees.
how did it survive the blitz
Great video. It`s really interesting to see some secret locations of London... Especially, since I'll be there next month.
However, maybe you can help me: When I visited London back in the 90s, we made a pub-tour (among the pubs was the Audley's, from which I still have a T-Shirt), and we visited a pub, which, according to our tour-guide, was "London's oldest Pub". The only things I remember are: it had a wooden floor, and just outside stood a gallows. For almost a decade I'm trying to figure out the name of this pub. Do you know which one we may have visited back then?
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Probably The Prospect of Whitby, which is a very old pub in East London on the banks of the River Thames. It has a gallows, so that must be the one. I think the pub is even older than The Mitre.
Wow, I think, tha's it. Thank you very much. :)
When you said rent a crypt I couldn't tell if you were joking. That's hilarious
keeping bodies in them historically earned churches most of their income but was problematic and outlawed since 1857 in London - many are now coffee shops to pay for church upkeep
Roberts London. Beleza?
Adoro Londres e o que mais me fascina Ă© o ROCK'N'ROLL.
âThank you!
The menue has changed a lot.
Nothing else has.
What beer are you drinking in this video? I'm traveling to London for the first time from America and I want to visit a very old English pub like the one in your video. That beer looks damn good!!!
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video
2 years later, but.... I think itâs Fullers London Pride!
So Robert, I thought you were a tour guide but I looked at your website and you're not! You have a shop! Am I understanding correctly? Just wondering in case I ever make it to London, which I realllllly want to do.
I make stuff and sell it - you can buy it online worldwide. Most youtubers have T-shirts my merch is a bit different
cocoanino I thought he was a tour guide too until I read your posting. I'm going to go on line and see what Robert sells.
I think this is the pub where Doug The Head has lunch in the film Snatch.
Robert. I googled to find out what you sell. You sell clocks on Amazon?
no

Please visit The Cheshire Cheese on Fleet Street ...wanna see Charles Dickens seat
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
I wonder if it's still open? Covid 19 has shut down so many lovely old public houses
just a small point, you are holding the camera to close to your face, it is often too much of a blur and no background...anyway love the pubs, keep it up,, I am out in Thailand now and its great sitting here having a beer looking at old boozers I used to go to
just been to this pub last week. hi me of my favourite in London. tip. sign up to their online mailing list and get a free pint
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
We donât put ketchup on hotdogs in most places in New Jersey.
Really nice story. BUT the continued selfies distracted from the tour, a bit.
Great video. As a bit of a history aficionado myself, I was wondering what the purpose of that obviously ancient bar was at the entrance to the alley when I visited Ye Olde Mitre Tavern last year. Now I know.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video
And down the great dragon was hurled and he took a third of the angels with him !
So with the very old pubs existing in London, imagine the old ones we'd also be able to see if someone had killed Hitler early. He bombed A LOT of historic, very old pubs. :(
daigon alleyy!!!
Please pronounce Ely correctly! Ely Place is the London residence of the Bishop of Ely and you are in fact in Cambridgeshire not London, there is a plaque to this effect and a gated entrance. This leads into Bleeding Heart Court named after the story of a woman murder victim found with her heart cut out that was left lying on the street and still beating... Also the name of the very good French restaurant found there.
Thanks for watching! Glad you liked the video
Actually, as people are correcting each other, I think it's called Bleeding Heart Yard
Were it not for that fire, we might have been able to leave London alone ! A 120 year old pub, just think of it đ.
Yo Roberts, Cheeeeeeeeeeers!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video
Thx Rob, I'm drunk AF
Mainly, all I'm seeing, are images of you...!
It's pronounced eely, not eli, other than that, are you so sure it's London's oldest pub ? There are "pubs" dating far further back in time, that also claim that title, but no one knows for definite if they were "pubs' " or Brewery Taverns!! And yes there is a difference , as these were the breweries for the actual brewing of ales, premises that occasionally would sell a pint to a member of the public, but they were not as such public houses, "pubs". More research needed methinks. And Gala pie is pork and veal pie with an egg in it lol.
Eelee...(phonetically) place...
Elee not Eli!
ë°ë? Am I only seen in Korean?
no
rent a crypt!! oh my goodness lol.

If you wear a wide-brimmed hat and set it a little back on your head that should solve your autofocus problem.

Great pubs....Great history....shit beer!..all mass produced Fullers shite....overpriced and bland. Needs some more small brewerys...
