    If you are an INFJ, you are inclined to generalize and focus on the big picture, you have the tendency to be a people pleaser, you run away from conflict, but you don't shy away from confrontation if there is a noble cause. You also have an innate artistic nature and you are drawn towards beautiful and useful things. You tend to overanalyze and filter everything through your emotions. You also like structure and you like planning everything in advance. Most INFJs (especially the turbulent ones) hate surprises and truly value their independence. An INFJ doesn't want to be a burden to anyone and doesn't like to take advantage of other people's weaknesses even though they can spot them. INFJs have high moral values, they are idealists and believe in humanity. INFJs can be very spiritual people and seek a deeper meaning to life, even though some of us are not exactly what you would call religious. INFJs love to spend time in nature and love animals. A true INFJ spends a lot of time reading, watching movies, and documentaries (anatomy, DIY, psychology, physics, literature, linguistics, biology, geography, you name it...). Prefer to spend most of their time alone, have few friends, or none at all, even though INFJs are not anti-social. As an INFJ you are aware that you are different and people are not able to understand you, so you constantly feel as if you don't fit in anywhere. INFJs can read people instinctively and have the ability to anticipate and predict other people's actions and the motives that lie behind those actions. INFJs are passionate and have strong convictions of how the world should function, they hate injustice and are capable of bullying the bullies in order to protect the victims of aggression.

      @Manny Cracker lately I have been coming to terms more with the fact that this indead just a test and theory. And I know that it is just a tool. What I meant with my comment was mostly is that instead of seeing and experiencing myself directly, I use a lot of theories to find out who I am and what drives me. This is what I meant with forgetting about being a human being of flesh and blood, and not a walking concept of some sort. Hope this clarifies things!

      @Happenstance_music Před 3 lety +3

      @Manny Cracker The people who give their trust to tests like 16personalities are the naive ones. The theory behind the entire thing (by Jung) is what interests me. Because once you’ve found out what your cognitive functions are, you can use this to know and work on your weaknesses. Most online free tests are pretty damn inaccurate (CPT says 16personalities for example has about a 50% accuracy).

  • @jeannebraun367
    @jeannebraun367 Před 3 lety +105

    It's kind of counterintuitive basically, isn't it? The dominant function of an INFP is introverted feeling and of an INFJ introverted intuition. So if you don't know too much about the MBTI, you'd expect the INFP to talk about feelings and the INFJ to talk about ideas, but it's actually the other way around. Since the first function of both is introverted, you only see the second function, which is extroverted. So what you mainly observe is the extroverted intuition of the INFP und the extroverted feeling of the INFJ. Basically, this means that it's the other way around: The INFP is talking about ideas and the INFJ is talking about feelings.
    P.s.: I'm pretty new to all this, so I hope I got this right.^^

    This is very insightful! But what has determined it for me as an INFJ is first of all knowing an INFP, and also realizing that I have that sub-conscious way of temporarily absorbing people's emotions/personalities, as well as going into chameleon mode without even realizing it.
    INFP'S don't do these things. They can also be the best at making INFJ'S feel like themselves.....whoever that is at the moment! They seem to bring out all that is authentic about us, if they are a healthy one!

    • @DriftArcana
      @DriftArcana Před 3 měsíci

      Is this true?
      I’ve been trying to decipher it for myself. I’ve taken multiple MBTI tests, and sometimes my prospective side is higher, and other times my judging side is higher (INF- stays more or less the same).
      That being said, my prospective and judging functions, on average, between all the MBTI tests I’ve taken, are more or less averaged out at ~50% each with a +/- of 8 points given my psychological disposition of the particular day, and time I take the tests - if, that is true.
      It’s got me to think, perhaps, when I’m being more ‘Yang,’ I’m an INFJ….
      When I’m being more “Yin,” I’m an INFP….
      Not to knock one for the other. Just something I’m questioning might be a possibility in the MBTI ‘game’
      In the enneagram model, people can be for instance, a 3 leaning on 4, or other kinds of nuances….
      The cold-warm/interior-exterior analogy might be helpful, to me, to recognize when I’m being healthy or not - given the world we live in (esp. since I live in a major city)
      In any case, I’d like a clean delineating mark to know for sure, and if not, at least acknowledgment that, the model isn’t god’s psychological bible (from the MBTI buffs/purists)
      Thoughts?

      the 2 types are very different, having all functions changed. How to tell the difference? INFP are very subjective, meaning they are about self expression and individuality. They are not usually rebels in the wider sense. INFJs feel much less in their own bodies, usually relating more to others than themselves. Due to Fe an INFJ meeting people will tend to smile, whereas in my experience, INFP like ISFP only show how they feel inside, so can be quite serious and cool faced. So what are you?

  • @senantiasa
    @senantiasa Před 4 lety +40

    I agree with what you said because the Fi of INFPs make them more personally attached to ideas and so when the discussion comes around to those ideas they already have deep opinions about, the INFPs are quick to express ideas that have essentially been a part of themselves for the longest time. The Ti of INFJs on the other hand makes them more detached to whatever topic they come across and their primary Ni (which stands for cautious and observant) makes them step back and try to put the personal opinions of an INFP into a bigger picture.

  • @myelixir
    @myelixir Před rokem +11

    Thank you so much for this. I have almost always tested as INFP on all MBTI tests, but recently my result was INFJ and I read up on INFJ's and related to a huge amount. I obviously relate to a huge amount of INFP as well but in some areas I felt I was more one than the other, but it was fully unclear to me which I actually was! I was thinking "Am I just answering questions inaccurately on tests and getting the wrong type?!"
    I looked more into the cognitive functions and honestly related to Fi, Fe, Ni & Ne all very strongly which didn't help! And I did a cognitive functions based test in which my highest score was Fi, but my Fe & Ni scores were the same and my Ne score (the lowest of these 4) was nearly 20% higher than my next score (Ti).
    I know I feel deeply but I was feeling like "But I feel like I lead with intuition?! I don't feel like my feelings are what I put out there or what I want others to talk about with me (I mean I would love to talk about feelings with the safest person in The Universe as I guess I do have a lot to say, but that's never a conversation I would initiate!!!) and though they are deeply important to me, I feel like I operate a lot more in the world in intuition than in feeling" which was making me think how am I actually leading with a feeling thing?! Am I really an INFP?
    Also, I think the things confusing me were I do have an analytical aspect to myself and while this isn't dominant, it is a part of me and that didn't seem part of INFP? There was lots of talk in descriptions of INFP's being late and unstructured. And while I am a messy person (at home I am the messiest person in The Universe) and I wouldn't say I like, want or need structure, I am always punctual and people have often told me they perceive me as organised in terms of how I get things done. (I'm not organised inside) and it was really these kind of things that made me think... well... am I am INFJ then?!?!?!!?? People perceive me as being organised in the sense that if I have let's say reports to write or a project to do, it will be done in time and will be very detailed and folk will think "Oh, you're so organised!!" when I am very much not! Although other people will perceive me as being a silly little flighty thing who won't be able to cope with anything, so I just don't know!! And I will sometimes plan - like for a trip, I might plan considerably! But I think overall I am pretty childlike and free and spontaneous.
    However, on how you have spoken on here, I would 100% be an INFP. That is fully how I am in conversation. And actually it explains a lot of why I was confused about whether I might be an INFJ as it is slightly counter intuitive (though it does make logical sense too!!)
    Thanks again. :)

(Hate conflict and negative emotions but sometimes you have to stand your ground) I spark with ideas but also have to understand how it all connects in the bigger picture. Of course my ADHD will kick in and I’ll struggle to remember what connections I just found. I really love the way you simplify the understanding of INFJ personality type. I've been confused since like 2016 about what type am I? I started off being tested as an INFP, at that time I was too new to mbti and just categorised them on the basis of those 4 letters... I just used to think I don't feel so much, I must be a thinking type. I kind of subconsciously manipulated myself to answer the questions so that I get the results of a thinking type, lol. Then I considered myself as an INTP, idk if I really related to it or agreed to their characteristics just for the sake of relating to them. Since then, I played online quizzes multiple times and tried to fit in that personality type but none of it seemed relatable. I even considered myself an ISTP and ENTP for a while. All those times, I didn't even consider about the possibility of me being an INFJ because of the image that has been created for them, people who want to bring change to the world, the most talked about "rarity" of this type, selflessness that knows no limits, the letter J (being lazy and forgetful about daily stuffs) and many other "too great" characteristics. I got frustrated and stopped reading about mbti as I wasn't fitting anywhere. However, I didn't give up, I still played quizzes once in a while to get INFP or sometimes INFJ. Still, I didn't want to think that I might be an INFJ, but I didn't think of myself as an INFP too. Finally, this year when I got a lot of free time, I read about cognitive functions and deeply introspected. I imagined many scenarios and even tried to notice own's actions. After so much internal conflict I settled down as an INFJ. When I started reading a lot about it, I couldn't relate more. I wasn't very sure, I kept watching so many videos, read quora, websites, reddit and even downloaded an mbti book. I just couldn't be sure XD. Only after watching all of your videos I felt quite sure that wow I'm this, but now also I don't want to be sure. I keep questioning so much. And I don't think I'll be able to tell my type to anyone and confuse myself about the various chances of not being this one. Sorry for the length of the comment, I never shared this to anyone because I don't know any person who's enthusiastic about mbti.

    I think I see it the same way as you, Ren. I consider Ne as a “Conceptual Talker”, actively trying to feed the function, while Ni is more a “Conceptual listener and responder”. As an INFP, I find I can ask too many questions and generate too many topics for my INFJ friends to keep up with. I have to let them respond on their own time, instead of in the moment riffing off of ideas.
    I see Fi as listening for the values of others. I always pay attention to what people prioritize and what they are asking for with their words and actions, and then I try to accommodate for each individual. I find I don’t need to actively ask, because when I pay enough attention, people will say either directly or indirectly what they are wanting. I can be blind to Fe though… for example when an FJ friend is making plans and trying to include me, as a way of creating connection, a lot of times I won’t think much of it, and I will think more about if I can make it or not… and If I don’t agree to do things together as planned, especially for an important event, it really damages my relationships with my FJ friends because their Fe needs are going unmet. (Something I am trying to be more cognizant of as someone with strong Perceiving preferences)

    Thankyou so much for this explanation video, Ren. I've struggled with knowing my true type for years. I seem to usually get the INFP result but also got INFJ when I first took it and have gotten INTP a few times. The greatest contradictions about being an INFP are that I don't have much difficulty expressing my ideas and emotions as the stereotype claims.
    Secondly, when I compare myself to my - mostly - ISFJ wife, I don't appear to have Fe since I usually don't care about the "group" or "tribe" when it comes to making moral decisions that a very true and close to my identity. I do, although, want to make decisions that make everyone happy when it doesn't cross my moral boundry. Conversely, my ISFJ wife is usually running around and taking care of our friends and family when we're with them, assuring that everyone is happy with their food and have everything they need. Although, is this just Si+Fe since Si cares about needs which Fe projects out to others?
    To give you a better idea, I'm also obsessed with typing people. Even strangers, people walking in the streets and just about anyone. I'm not sure if this is FiNe or NiFe.
    Speaking of reaching out emotionally, as you mentioned, when I connect with someone which is usually because they want to connect with me I often get rebuked by my wife "for sharing my whole life or too much information"... I never understood this from her. I just might be sharing something that I'm doing or what's been happening in my life such as buying some furniture or just where we are by phone call. This usually seems to upset my wife. By the way, she does seem like an ISFP at times. As for myself, this behaviour doesn't at all seem like Fi, does it? Sharing so much information of which I don't really see as personal at all really seems like Fe, right?
    Thanks for any words of wisdom in advance!

    I find this all very interesting ...soon to be 63 , I've known since 12
    I was much different than my friends and family. I wondered why I was the way I am , or that maybe something was wrong with me ...until recently , while stumbling upon a video on INFJ's which I identified with 85 - 90% of the characteristics ; then eventually took the Myers Briggs test which determined I was an INFP-T. However , after seeing a video on INFP's which focused more on the negative attributes being very honest with myself agreed with about 40 - 50% of what was being said ; I'm wondering if there are some ppl who are somewhere in the middle of the two , possessing a little of both ?
    I consider myself to be very compassionate , tend to analyze information and abstract concepts from many angles and can go through different scenarios regarding a thing, am very passionate ; also having the ability to see into things in depth. In order not to come across haughty , I would have to provide examples in order to clarify i.e., instead will only list significant episodes starting at ages 5 , 12 , 21 , 39 and 62 ; I've always been extremely esoteric by nature , as well ; if that's a thing ?

    This one is so crazy for sure, I've been mulling over this identity dilemma the past few weeks now. For example, how you said here an INFJ is possibly more open to share their feelings, but how easily that can be tricked with INFP dominant Fi function expressing itself if something turns out to go against their strong inner compass.
    But now I can see what you mean, INFJ is seeking to make sense of feeling Fe externally, whereas an INFP makes sense of it's feeling internally and carries likely some solidarity with that, more able to be unwavered by the influence of others.

      @@starmaster9105 It's highly speculative. You can't really quantify your traits in percentages and personality is more fluid or more rigid from one person to another. Also there are other external factors that affect your behavior, coping and reactions like upbringing, religion, traumas, etc. I have gotten many different results, but usually stay within the "diplomat"-types. However, there are many common traits among all of these personalities. Falling victim to the Barnum effect is a very big issue regarding typologies. Wether you usually fall within one of the four main categories or fluctuate between them, you can rest assured that you are a sensitive person with a potential to help others in some way. Beyond that, it's better to try to pay attention and observe yourself in different social situation to see how you react to things. You are the best blueprint to follow for yourself. Jung had many good ideas, but he was a very esoteric thinker, dabbling in the occult etc. Typology isn't exactly an empirical science. It's somewhere between a categorization of normal behavior patterns and a horoscope. Map out your own patterns and discuss them with a therapist instead of relying on what a stereotype on the internet based on a 100 year old theory says! (On another note, I'm definitely INFJ)

      They would disagree, making a collaboration a bit difficult, if one's wrong. I'm INFJ, have known this for 25 yrs-taken the tests countless times; and I think the OP [the video poster] is wrong.
      My extroverted feeling comes out in my ability to read the emotional temperature of a room and my friendliness, but I seldom talk about feelings; in fact, I hate it-it makes me very uncomfortable. Instead, I'm constantly prattling on about ideas.
      What the OP failed to even mention, which surprises me as it's the most obvious thing [the final letter]; is that a "J" extroverts judgement, i.e we judge the world-and we also DON'T shy away from confrontation. Quite the opposite. In fact, INFJ is almost what you'd get; if you weaponized INFP. "P's" introvert judgement i.e judge themselves-or don't/seldom express their judgement of others. A "J" will let you know; if they don't like you, to your face. They might even fight you, which a P probably won't do.
      The true nature of an INFJ, is also to be kind; they're known as one of the kindest [google what I say yourself], whereas the true nature for INFP is to be sweet-again, do your own research. So yeah, he's actually pretty-wrong, and is clearly basing the video on theory [only the secondary function-being extroverted, you see...oookay then], NOT observation.
      For the record, like myself; Frank is INFJ. If you think, based on this video you're INFJ; you're INFP. I know INFP's very well; they're basically my spirit animal. This video basically contradicts everything I've read, all the Frank James videos I've seen, and yes; I know the function stacks-and can tell you that for INFJ and INFP by heart-without even looking it up. He's wrong. Wrong wrong wrong [that alone, should tell you I'm a J].

    I dont think so. In your understanding i could be either since i do share how i feel on particular things to build a deep connection but i dont do it with just anyone, only people i click with otherwise im reserved; same with intuition though i also often discuss ideas and different things in topics that interest me without shutting up cuz Ne comes up with so much stuff my thoughts are never linear. Your system of differentiating would not work in this case. What is more having Fi in how most people use the model means you are aware of your own feelings in great detail (whether you share or not), and Fe means being aware of group feelings (again whether u share ur own or not) in fact INFJ would have a hard time knowing exactly how they feel because they will be aware of others and that could cause confusion with their own feelings. Infp would have no such issue. So what you describe in building deep connection with the other person by sharing feelings is actually an INFP trying to evaluate whether the other person holds similar values to their own (which is important, and its an Fi type of valuation "do you share MY values" thats Fi come on.. ). In my opinuon it is easier to differentiate if you just try to notice who listens more. INFJ will on average be a better listener (to anything shared: feelings or ideas) due to Fe wanting to make the other person open up, and INFP would have the tendency to talk more if its about something they are passionate about and they see the other person is listening with interest.

      @@RensRoom is someone who always has a long term idea / vision for things way more likely to be an INFJ than an INFP?
      I am an eternally confused INFx :( and this video unfortunately didn't clarify further because while I am definitely much more reactive about emotional expressions and don't generally like to express them outwardly, I am also very reactive with ideas and it's very typical of me to come back with a unified synthesis that incorporates everything and they are more an amalgamation of everything that is known to me instead of something personal.
      For me, for both feelings and ideas I need to trust the person which doesn't happen easily. I also think my behavior with feelings might have been a lot more influenced by my environment / upbringing than my behavior with ideas. So while I lean more INFJ, there isn't unfortunately a single video or text that clarifies it for me, and if there is, it's only a matter of time until I read something else that throws me back into doubt :(

      See in my case it's almost like I'm continuously many steps ahead of everything that is going on in the present. It would be extremely rare for me to start something without considering the implications of it for the future, how I want that future to be and how the path needs to be to get there. I think it's also related to my perfectionism. Whatever I do needs to not just work perfectly now but also should be careful to not limit how I want it to be in the future. All these considerations make me slower than other people to get started.
      No idea if this is a difference between INFPs and INFJs but at least it seems like it might be something wired into the brain and not possibly affected by the environment or upbringing.

  • @DriftArcana

    Is this true?
    I’ve been trying to decipher it for myself. I’ve taken multiple MBTI tests, and sometimes my prospective side is higher, and other times my judging side is higher (INF- stays more or less the same).
    That being said, my prospective and judging functions, on average, between all the MBTI tests I’ve taken, are more or less averaged out at ~50% each with a +/- of 8 points given my psychological disposition of the particular day, and time I take the tests - if, that is true.
    It’s got me to think, perhaps, when I’m healthy, I’m an INFJ….
    When I’m not being healthy, I’m an INFP….
    Thoughts?

      Yes of course, I make everyone feel comfortable, seen and listened to, I genuinely care for others, and want to understand them, I often put the focus on others instead of myself in conversation (don’t know if this is because I’m actually a bit shy and don’t want to be vulnerable), I can fit with almost every kind of person, i laugh when someone make a bad joke because I want them to feel funny🤓, and I often see others point of view, people also view me as pretty extroverted at times, however, I can “turn off” my warmth and my focus on others when I feel like it, and with people I’m super comfortable with, I tend to live more in my own feelings, and “care” less about theirs. I’m only 19, so maybe I just need more time to understand myself;))
