- G'day Gamers, welcome to my first proper guide for No Man's Sky: Adrift Expedition. I made a lot of mistakes so you don't have to, and I guarantee you will save a lot of time if you follow this guide to complete the Expedition. Now, I want to keep the introduction short so we can get straight into things but there's a few things you should know. This guide isn't in order of objectives, I have arranged it so it's as time-efficient as I could be. Another thing is that if you are looking to find the Synthetic Animals for the "It's Alive" objective, it's the last thing I do to complete the Expedition so go to the end of the guide to find out the easiest way to find them.

Scanning also earns good money. Use the money at a space station galactic trade terminal to buy Drop Pod Data. As you fly around locating the drop pods, make sure to hit the Save Flag, at each location. Do 12 of them and objective complete. You'll want the backpack upgrades the Drop Pods provide to unlock the 3rd high power slot on your exosuit (so work toward the right.)
Bread also provides a jetPack Boost for 15 seconds, so it's handy to have a stack.
They do need to add a "Hot Bar" if you will, so you can bind the bread to a key, ie 1, to make it simple to use the bread, in the way you can bind a specific multitool to a specific key.

Put the first S Class Scanner Upgrade you receive into a Super Charged Slot to almost double the money you get from scanning
(its probabl not double, but it IS a significant amount more)
Where can i find galactic trafe terminals at i the adrift expedition?
@@idke7328 You have to go upstairs and down the corridor. All stations have them hidden away down that corridor in this expedition. Let me know how you go!

Or any Tradepost on the Planets (the ones with 7 landing pads) should have one, though youll need an economy scanner to fidn one easily
Also the Planetary Archives and the small Tradeposts (with a single landing pad) have them too
They are all a bit messed up (purposely) during Adrift and wont always give great prices, and sell things at higher prices but they do work
Space Station is easiest
You should be able to travel to previous space stations you landed on, via the Gates found on the opposite side of the station to the GTT

EDIT: My original comment is below. I figured it out with an experienced NMS buddy. Here's what happened and I hope it helps another NMS rookie!
It turns out I *did* get the Hyperdrive upgrade blueprints, but I didn't really notice them, or know what they were for. I then must have quickly filled all the free Ship technology slots with upgrades etc.
That meant I never had a free slot to click on. If I did the pop-up would have suggested the Hyperdrive upgrades!
As a new player I didn't see the relevance of the Catalogue/Guide and had never looked at all the "known" blueprints I had collected. So I had no idea that I actually has the 3 blueprints :)
Because the "Adrift" expedition mostly guides the player I just kept moving on to new missions, thinking the use of the "Catalogue" was for later, non-expedition gameplay. Great, concise video guide, thanks.

Thanks for the video, but I must be missing something: I cannot find any Warp drive upgrade blueprints, so I cannot visit the "Blue" systems. Everything else can be figured out by a new player and a bit of help/googling, but the "It's Alive" mission is doing my head in!! I have not found a single "Empty" world.
Any suggestions anyone?

Warp Drive plans are an objective award from the "Amidst the Stars" mission (crafting The Mind Ark one) After that you should be able to install the drives, no need to purchase plans. For the Synthetic life, at the final Rendezvous planet, you should be able to fly up on the system map and there are 2 blue planets (at the end of this video) that house 1 and 2 synth creatures respectively. Hope that helps!

The more of these adrift videos i watch the more i realize i would have been done with the expedition today the same day i started it if i had bothered to do some of the other objectives like the 5 ancient structures while i was doing other stuff now ive got a majority of phase 5 done and am struggle busing right through phase 4 oh well ill get it done tomorrow i guess lol
If you are still at rendezvous 5 don't forget to check the end of the guide to get your Synthetic life objective done easy! The rest of the objectives can be completed on most planets so while it seems daunting, you should do phase 4 and 4 fairly easy.

rfaster way finding them look for planet systems with the letter f in it... it indicates peculiar planets ( ie finned planet ) and youll find the syntetic life forms )

Try putting Silicate Powder form the terrain manipulator (mine the ground) and Di Hydrogen in your personal refiner. Hope that helps!
Big question I play NMs on switch and I don’t believe derelict freighters work the same on the system. I watched videos and ppl say you get a signal thing, should build a terminal that I buy the design from the anomaly? I haven’t gotten the signal thing and I’ve done everything else in the expedition I’ve seen a freighter but it disappears
There's a mission which you have to find alien ruins or perhaps the sunken freighter that awards an "Emergency Signal Scanner" which you then use in your inventory while flying through space in pulse drive. You can also purchase a Signal Scanner from the abandoned space stations trade terminals, not the anomaly. Let me know how you go and if you get stuck I'm happy to start a new expedition and check
How do you find a planet with "low" boundaries that are needed for the Ghost in the Machine task? All the planets I visit seem to have boundaries "too high", hence no anomalies can be found via the signal booster.
Nevermind, found it. For anyone having the same issue: try searching in rendezvous systems.

Luck plays a part, but an easy way to complete Quantum Foam is to scan all creatures on a planet. A single bonus is often enough to complete the objective, and on some planets you can find all creatures close to your original landing spot. I probably wouldn't waste much time on the rare or hard to find creatures. But remember to turn in the bonus under discoveries if you manage to get 100% of the creatures on a given planet. I lucked out. Found all 8 creatures in a few minutes, and got a 2k bonus for getting 100%.

I can’t seem to complete the Ghosts in the machine, whenever I go to a planet a pull out the signal booster it never says, “find anomaly” or whatever it’s meant to say. So any advice?
Make sure you have the objective selected for it to scan for the breach! As far as I know this can be done on any planet.

You will already have the blueprint from the quest rewards

Hahaha don't worry, I legit flew into space and summoned the anomaly to find out I already had it! This Expedition does a lot of progression differently to the game and it threw me off a few times!
Do I need the bones later for something? They take to much inventory space :(
Sell them for some credits! They aren't needed once you get the objective completed.

Are there any good tips on finding the sunken Freighter? I can'T seem to find one on any planet
Check the local teleporters....eventually, you WILL find a sunken freighter base.
Easiest way is to build a Nautilus submarine, install a high power scanner, press up on the dpad and scan for one
@@whatsitlikeautried 5 times. No freighter found. I am tired of crafting nautilus.
You only have to craft the base ince per planet to be able to summon it anywhere on that planet. Are you scanning by installing a high grade scanner, pressing up on the dpad, and then selecting freighter? I spent ages just using my normal scanner until I realised I needed the high power scanner. You normally need to research it but in this expansion you can build it as soon as you've built the Nautilus
I must have tried this 5+ times as well, do you need a certain depth of water as so many planets are shallow water. Also I read you need a system with a space station in order to locate one but so far still no luck (I am using the nautilus scanner btw)
I can't find the planets with high enough mountains to complete the "All That You Survey" part. I don't know which planets you mean that you were able to complete it. Which galaxy are they in?
Rendezvous Planets 2,3, and 5 all have high enough mountains. Just make sure the objective is selected for it to tick off!
I cannot find atlantideum. Whenever I do "Locate Substance" from the catalogue, it points out to a planet really really far.
Check on your galaxy map for any system that is marked as "Dissonant" this planets are loaded with altlantidium

Have you been to rendezvous 5 yet? It's at the end of this video but there's 2 planets really close to R5 that allow you to find them easily!
Where do you pick up your transferred items when starting the expedition?
Usually at the console in the Anomaly. I'm not sure what restrictions are put on this one so it might not be accessible right away
how do i do the " Nameless History" milestone i go to the knowledge stones but it doesn't increase it at all
You need to find ancient ruins. Each ruin should have a triangular object that you interact with to mark it off your list. If you have the objective selected and use a signal booster, you should be able to search for them easily. Let me know if you get stuck!

Is there a way to customize the character you spawn as?
Once you can summon the anomaly I'm pretty sure you can change your appearance there.
How can i get condensed carbon to fix the personal refiner mk2 ?
Look for C+ Crystals with your visor. It can be a struggle early on
Hoped there would be a little more detail about finding planets with bones, such as a specific planet and where it is in reference to the rendezvous path. Maybe something to consider for future videos. Just saying "find a planet that has them" isn't much guidance.

Sorry about that, I'll do better on my next guide. When you scan a planet, it will say "Burial Sites" the lines themselves are represented by yellow icons and you excavate them with the terrain manipulator.
someone know what to do when you are stuck in the derelict freighter? i did restart 14 times and every time i fall through the floor and get stuck at some point...
I'm not sure on this one sorry. Perhaps leave that freighter and purchase an emergency scanner form a space station to try a new one? I have noticed the freighters have a lot of bugs!

It is unreal to beat the expedition! I can’t go to the blue, red or white stars, because I don’t have drive, and I can’t craft the drive because no one sells it!
You should have your plans already from a previous quest reward. From memory it's the Space Station objective?

Wiring looms can still be purchased from abandoned stations. The trade terminals are hidden up the top through a hallway

No worries! It's a very different experience from other expeditions. Just a heads up there's a quest where I say to install a high frequency scanner in a Nautilus sub, just complete the "All you survey" milestone to get the plans for the scanner. No need to go to the Anomaly. Have fun!
how do you get the indium drive for the blue star?!
You get warp drive plans from a previous objective. When I get home I'll find out which one and let you know
For some reason the game will not give me the advanced mining laser blueprint. I found my ship and everything, it's just telling me to install something I don't have
You do have to source the materials for it if that helps?
You need to redeem it from the expedition menu point
I cant find the second rondayvoue point, i c it on the galactic map, but cant find it after i warp there.
On the galaxy map, you can press left and right on the Dpad to change objective type, make sure it's set to "Expedition"

I cant seem to do the whispering eggs one, i collected them but it still says 0, i have collect about 34 eggs so far
So you have 34 Larval Cores in your inventory? You have to destroy the eggs and pick up the cores for it to register. I hope that helps
@whatsitlikeau i found out what the issue is, or i atleast fixed it. In the beginning when you said to lower the difficulty to make it easier besides turning off predator, it caused the bugs to not spawn and it wouldnt count towards the 0/16 eggs, i did have predators on when i collected the eggs, after putting everything back to the default settings the bugs started spawning and when i collected one it counted

Cant find copper on the starting planet its crazy can only find cursed dust
Should be copper everywhere! I would recommend restarting the expedition if thats the case. It might be a bug!

Drive plans are rewarded when you first land at a space station so you don't need to buy them for this expedition. Hope that helps
I'm stuck on "Sign's to nowhere" I should search base or another building?
Most buildings have the tiny radar array outside of them. If you fly around the planet surface, you will see house icons, land at them and press the radar array. The game should save and give you navigational data. Hope that helps!

Sorry about that, I've had this complaint before and will fix it next guide. To find planets with bones you can scan them from space and they will have "Ancient Bones" in the description and are found the same way buried technology modules are found.
How do you get a high powered sonar? I cant find how to make it nir where to get the blueprints
In this expedition, you have the plans by default. I legit went up to the anomaly only to find out I had them all along

Sorry for the late response, I got your original message a 1am Aus time. You need to complete the signs to nowhere objective first, which rewards you with Nautilon Advanced upgrades
How do I get more fuel for the Nautilus? I dont have the recipe to craft it and I haven't found a sunken freighter yet.
Same happened to me. I went to a different system and crafted a new chamber

So I just played through again on Switch... you can learn the fuel recipe from the Anomaly for 250 nanites. I apologise for the wrong answer before

Sure! It's purple shards on the ground found only on dissonant planets (the ones with corrupted sentinels.) Mine them and also the bigger purple shards of radiance to get 2 objectives in one go!

I'm sorry this was an oversight on my end as hyperdrives have different ranges. Any system marked as "dissonant" will do for Atlantadium
I created a base on a Corrupted world, it's simply called "Atlantideum" and should show up as you browse bases (hopefully)
I also had issues trying to find Gadolsk :(
Is Fathoms Below hard to achieve? Ive been cruising the deep sea but havent find a single crashed freighter
You have to install a high power scanner, then press down on the dpad, select scan, and select a freighter.
@@whatsitlikeau oh sorry forgot to mention that Ive been scanning for crashed freighter for awhile with my nautilon. It always says "No nearby building located" but Ive been scanning for almost an hour lol
@fresco65604 change to another planet in the same system. You should be able to summon the Nautilon without rebuilding the station
@@whatsitlikeau so what I did is that I went to space station then browse some underwater bases from other player and then I built a nautilon station nearby then BOOM I got the crashed freighter 1st try. Thanks for the amazing guide btw

Sick tutorial but how do you randomly craft a nautilus sub, like please ellaborate.
sorry about that! Next time i'll go into more detail. When harvesting the materials underwater, grab 100 salt, then press up on the D-pad to build the Nautilon chamber. If you've been following the guide, you would have unlocked the plans a couple of objectives ago! If you get stuck, I'm very active on this channel so reply to this with any questions and I'm happy to help out!
My only problem is NOT having an Indium drive to get to BLUE stars......HOW do i get that drive ?
You get the plans very early on for that. You will have to install all 3 drives to get to a blue planet!
To add to what was said
You first build the Cadmium drive using Chromatic Metal (refined from copper), then youll mine some Cadmium on a red world, and use it to make your Emeril Drive, then fly to a Green Star, mine some Emeril to make your Indium Drive
Or you can spend probably more time looking for a Base on a Blue system
Whatever suits your playstyle
The first version is a life skill for any save you make in NMS
@@whatsitlikeau Strange, i played for 15 hours, finished all but the synthetic creatures and the freighter missions....NEVER got more than 1 Hyper drive upgrade.
Go to red sytems, itll save you time and resources instead of going to blue systems

You can refine larval cores in your personal refinery if that helps!
Why the hell am i stuck on the dereliction milestone. I made it wll the way to the last room and hot the bulkhead.
Did you map all the rooms with the objective selected?
I saw on another video that they had to extract nantes for it to register

OK, I have the expedition complete,, but one. It is a Small Voice. I have it highlighted and its says gaze toward the stars. 0-60s. But it does nothing. Am I doing something wrong?

Wtf is a surge battery and how do I get them?? Cannot find a communication tower and can't use my signal booster anymore... wtf do I do?
You should be able to craft a new signal booster by pressing D-pad up. Use it on a Rendezvous planet if you're not having luck on other planets. Let me know if this works for you!
I went through the derelict freighter and did everything ,but nothing happen. I couldn't get the milestone complete at all. I don't understand it why i couldn't complete it at all. was hard doing this,
because I died. because of the aliens. And took a while to do this milestone.
I had the same issue and it turned out I only explored 8 of 9 areas. Did you get them all ticked off? You can always purchase a new scanned from any space station terminal and do it again. I always make sure my current phase objective is selected too. Hope that helps!
@@whatsitlikeau Here's a tip, after using your scanner and landing on the freighter...put the Scanner into your personal refiner....and you will not lose it, no matter how many times you try.

To finish the Expedition? Yes, all 5 stages need to be complete to collect the hauler.

For the love of me I can't find any excavation site, only buried technology modules. Even using that signal increment I can't find a fucking clue 💀
From space you should be able to scan planets and they will have a yellow indicator saying "Ancient Burial Site" or something similar.

I cant seem to complete the "all you can survey" mission. No mountains are anywhere near that high 😅
Bro what? How? pretty much every of the exoedition gathering points are on planets with huge mountains.

I got that achievement by pure accident. Just followed the expedition gathering points and every planet with the huge worms had massive mountains.

I say in the Video I recommend extracting nannites to go toward the "Quantum Foam" objective if you haven't already ticked that over. Hope that helps!

this is really the first expansion I've played through so I don't fully understand how the outcome works when switching back the main character in the save.
@jakstrieder ah sorry for that misunderstanding! I accepted it as I started a fresh save for this expedition. On my main save on Switch when I do it, I won't accept it as I have a really nice pirate frigate. So I guess it depends on what you have in your main save!

Copper proving hard to find
It can be frustrating. The good news is that it's all over the starter planet! Use your visor to view and tag deposits. Unless you mean activated copper? You might have to do a few warps to find that!
I spawned on a planet with literally nothing on it :(
No worms jumping around? The first planet should be fairly empty as the theme of the expedition is about being isolated. Let me know if anything spawns!

Im just trying to earn nanites.....and its exhausting. I had an easier time find the synthetic creatures.
Whispering eggs work out well for this one. Put the larval cores in your refinery and you get 50 nanites per egg!

Either my switch is messed up or Nintendo switch doesn't have this update, I got version 4.6.5 and literally just updated my game today
Switch is still on 4.6.5. I think it's realistic to see the update tomorrow or Wednesday going from previous releases. I do apologise for the mix up as I know this is a primarily Switch focused channel. I rushed ahead to make this guide on the Xbox version of the game but the methods will be identical.
HOW DO I FIND THESE DAMN EGGS
When you find infested outposts there are egg sacks. Destroy them and pick up the larval cores

2nd and 3rd Rendezvous points work for this! Just make sure you have the objective selected. From memory Rendezvous 5 also works!

This expedition inspired me to finally uninstall this game. I'm so sick of purposely vague and confusing instructions. "Admist the stars" broke me. How am I supposed to figure out that I have to go to the back and craft something???? I would have never figured that out without a walk-through. I am so sick of this game hiding unobtainable items behind these tedious expeditions.
That's a shame but I feel your frustration. I've noticed a lot of objectives show up in each expedition as well. I hope you come back to the game when you're ready tho!
@@whatsitlikeau I’m just being a baby. I’m sure they will add something to pull me back in, but I have always struggled with completing expeditions. I refuse to look anything up until it’s too late.

They are around the outposts and littered across worm ridden worlds. Destroy the eggs and pick up the green spiky "larval cores" for it to register

@@Atum1c If you head to the back of the anomaly where the portal is, there's a door in that room called the Prime Terminal. Use that and you get the recipe to craft the Mind Ark . You then have to go to a dissonant system and harvest some materials to complete the Mind Ark and then re-summon the anomaly and use the terminal with the Mind Ark.

I can’t find a planet with ruins on it for the life of me
If you select the objective, you then deploy a signal booster, then you can scan for the ruins. Most planets will have ruins so it should be a quick one to achieve.
@@whatsitlikeau I tried a dozen planets and none had the option to scan for ruins. I did find a random planet via a random portal eventually and was able to complete the milestone.
I found a boundary failure from the ghost in the machine milestone but it’s enclosed by a building/structure preventing me accessing it. What do I do with that?
It sounds lime you've had a rough time on this expedition! The boundary failure for me was out in the open so I'm not sure. Maybe some viewers might be able to give some insight?

I like them most of the time, but they do seem to recycle a lot of objectives. The rewards are worth it though!

If ur on pc do not bother as adrift is broken fully on pc...u will never receive a blueprint for metal sheets and hermetic seals,effectively locking any and all progression from the very beginning.

You actually start with the ability to make Metal Plating and Hermetic Seal
You craft them by clicking an empty slot in your Exosuit or Starship Inventories
You skipped load out entirely. Idk what to bring.
This guide assumes a fresh expedition, nothing needed to bring.
