  • In this video i share how to bypass a faulty glow plug timer with a customizable, simple to use and cheap setup.
    I used a YYC 2 timer relay off ebay, and activated it with a moment switch from this mob here: billetautomoti...
    This video is not a comprehensive guide on the correct way to do anything, it's only a rough guide of how i did it.
    Don't use this method if your vehicle is under warranty or you are not confident carrying out auto electrical work.

    Don't forget to add fuses to your work. 60Amp between Glow Plugs and an 80Amp relay. 7.5Amp fuse inline with the switch. And you should be good to go.

    Hi there on your diagram you have put glow plugs switch and dash light in two different places but doesn't your glow plug switch light up ?

    • @wilddonkeyadventures
      @wilddonkeyadventures  Před 2 lety +3

      Yeah that's right. As not every switch will light up i thought it easier to just have the wire running to a separate light on the diagram and folks could just adjust it to their individual preferences. In my setup you would just run the wire to the lighting circuit of the switch, if it's an illuminated switch. Also if you were to not use the push button switch and instead have the timer activate once you turn the key, you would need a separate light on the dash. Hope that makes as much sense as it does in my head. LoL.

      It depends on the voltage of the glow plug. Most of them are 12 volts but some can be different. It'll most likely be stamped on the glow plug near the top.

    My son has an 2002 diesel Prado and when it is cold it is hard to start. When the ignition is turned on the dash Glow Plug light only issuminates for 1 second. DOes this mean that the Glow Plug times in the ECU is not working properly.

      I'd say so. Should be on for a few seconds when cold. Best thing to do is to get a multimeter and see if power is getting to the glow plug rail. If not i reckon the timer is faulty.
