      FYI - I have a design that went live recently. It’s called the “Multo V1”. Multo translates to ghost in my native language (Tagalog). It is made by my friend Damon Lusky of Alfa Knife.

      Thank you. I designed this hawk with the Igorot/ Kalinga axe in mind. I wanted it to be made of modern materials and heat treated properly. Also, since my intention with this design was for a defensive blade, not a camping tool, I wanted the balance point to be neutral, so transitions for several angles of attack can be smooth. Also, I incorporated my experiences in the military and blended it with my FMA/Kali/Silat training for this design.

    I apply Constrictor Knots for strategic grips as well. Spent my younger life as a sailor. I apply them to everything I can for several purposes. I believe that's what I see on the handle of one of your hawk's. Haven't ever seen anybody else that uses them. I can state that its always been the most useful knot of hundreds Ive known.

      Yeah, the constrictors give my tomahawks, and my Cane's like a magnitude of extra power with the control and grip they provide as well as retention. I can whip my heavier hawks back and forth with soeed power and control chopping at both sides. Practice on dead standing tree's in the forest. Got a giant dead White Oak that was open grown back in the time of Cherokee, which I use to throw my tomahawks into.
      Always tie on two Constrictors at minimum, one high for close in fast fighting, and one down the handle to where I'll grip for chopping wood and throwing. I really dig it. I can powerfully control my cane and tomahawks even with sweaty hands or wet. I'd never step into gym again. Dual welding and working out with knifes and tomahawks and my cane, has got me looking like a body builder at age 56, and I got disabilities. The cane is the secret. Spinning it as I traverse the forest and swapping hands with cane and tomahawk builds muscle like nothing I ever seen. I got constrictors on everything, except some of my folding knives which have neither need nor accomodations for such. Nice collection you have.

      @@danhaywood5696 I agree with everything you said. The cane and walking stick is definitely a force multiplier. I picked up a real blackthorn in Galway in 2019. The flexibility and strength that allows the whip action is so powerful. I’m disabled from the Marines and sometimes need a cane/stick. As a child I had green berets and MACVSOG guys telling me about the tomahawk and knife training and real world use in Nam and other places. I grew up reading about Kit Carson, Bridger and the Mountain Man. Chopping firewood as a kid developed a lot of strength and muscle memory. A hawk and knife are so dangerous. Once I got my hatchet in boy scouts it was just second nature to have one on my belt. Thank you for the comments and sharing your thoughts.

    Real cool stuff but paying almost $1,000 isn't something I would do??? A $50.00 tomahawk will do the exact same thing...

      I’ve got the $50 ones too. One of my most terrifying hawks was made by an Alaskan in the traditional style. I’ve just always loved hawks. At the time I was buying these I was I had a lot of disposable income, now I’m 100% disabled. They also weren’t as mainstream as they are now. I love quality. After a $50 SOG hawk failed me I couldn’t trust that design. I’ve broken a lot of axe hafts over the years at the chopping block. Processing wood and people might be a slightly different business. I love what CRKT has done for instance collaborating with Williams/winkler designs and bringing them to market at a very reasonable price (esp military/first responders. I never want a to die because of equipment failure. Me failure is fine. So, full tang construction is better for breaching etc. I’ve got a lot of axes for wood. As far as steel, temper, edge geometry are concerned there is no comparison, the money is in these things. I appreciate your comments and happy hunting!

    Any ideas where to get the second one you showed? The "Tracker Dan Spike Hawk" you called it ? I have a Winkler RnD on order & am just waiting ! Just can't wait to get it, I'm so stoked to finally own one eventually. I was listening to a podcast/CZcams interview a few months ago about the different Seal Squadrons within DEVGRU, like Red Squadron, Gold Squadron, etc. And this guy was diving a little bit into their lesser known "calling cards" that each Squadron would do.. like beheading people, skinning them and all this crazy psych op's stuff that was exclusive to each Squadron would.. so other SF guys would know who done it. It was nuts. And I remember one Squadron specifically carried & used tomahawk for extra brutality. He said once it was time for one of us to go in (one of the colored Squadron from Seal Team 6/DEVGRU).. that everyone was a target, there was no more negotiating. Most times no civilians or hostages. They just went in a wrecked their worlds with extreme violence & brutality. It was very interesting to listen to. He was promoting his new book where he talks more about some of the "different methods" each Squadron used. I'm trying to find it to share with you. Anyway.. you axe collection reminded me of that because one of them made a point to use tomahawks.

    • @jackspade1889
      @jackspade1889  Před rokem

      Thank you for sharing! Each squadron had a different hawk from winkler (from what I understand). Over time some changed from a back spike to a hammer poll. They all have different mission specialties as well, so it would follow that tools they carried would be mission driven/specific. I know of instances in which POTUS would want a specific message sent. Also there are makers like HFB that were SEAL made and self distributed to team members. Individually some guys would get the hawk given to them and would just toss in in their truck. Others loved them and carried them as part of loadout. CIA had missions where a few gents would go on a several click run, find a target in their bed and strike them at the base of the skull with the spike of the hawk, then run to extract. Tracker Dan is a SEAL and a member of DEVGRU designed the head of his “Grey Matter” and Dan designed the handle and palm swell. There is a bit of rivalry within the blade community “more with purchasers than makers.” That said even the hawk you carry can get political. More on the “couch commando” side. In the Marines we didn’t have the leeway generally to carry what we wanted and no one was making custom weapons for us. I had a gerber hatchet that I had honed to a razor, and my own K-bar. They were just tools to me. If you search Facebook for the Tracker Dan users/fan page they will be for sale in the group. Expect to pay $2k for one. There is also instagram.com/knives.and.gear?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=. You can also go to a knife show where the makers have tables. You pay much less (half) but it’s time sleeping outside the night before waiting in like to pay cash for whatever happens to be on the table. Hope this helps. Cheers!

      @@jackspade1889 Oh wow ! That's also very interesting information. I imagine in the Marines, you are a bit restricted & risk being turned in for a petty "war crime" if you used a tomahawk.. where SF/CIA has a broader mission parameter & methods may be looked down on but not met with any real punishment by upper command. Also thank you for your service! I've seen pictures of the Gerber's & Cold Steel's being carried. I imagine some of thr Frontline Soldiers used them while sweeping/breaching houses. They are just one of those things with a specific design. Taking someone out. Nothing else really. Well I've always been into knives however I'm just now starting to get into the axe/tomahawk world so $2k is out of the question for me right now. Someday I definitely want one of those though. I love that one the best of the lot for some reason, the wrap just looks soo grippy too. Do you have any other recommendations between the $500-1000k price range ? I'm sure eventually I'll be willing to drop $2k on one just like with my knives. I foresee myself getting a couple different Winkler designs but you have soo many cool ones. Are most of these custom & rare "one offs" made limited by veteran makers ? Really all I knew about was Gerber & Cold Steel Trench Hawk, which I have but I'm ready to up my tomahawk game. I simply can't wait for my Winkler RnD. I may even order a Compact w/o the spike to keep on my hiking backpack.

      @@jackspade1889 Wow buddy! Thank you very much for taking the time. I have definitely found some winners. It's definitely a rabbit hole but I'm okay with that. It's happend with knives, backpacks, flashlights, etc, now tomahawks haha! I've noticed that they are very similar to some knife brands. In a sense that if you see it & like it. Buy it. Because it may be out of stock. I really didn't know their was such a huge market & dozens of different companies for tomahawks. I thought it was just a small "sub culture" of the "knife world community" but it appears it's really got it's own thing & cult following. Just like the knife & flashlight guys. I really love the Winkler, RMJ & CRKT stuff. I'm sure eventually after I get a nice solid collection of 8-10 going on I will find one of those Tracker Dan Graymatter spike hawks. I'm super stoked for my Winkler RnD & I have a couple others incoming. RMJ Tactical has SO many epic designs. Move on over Gerber & Cold Steel haha. S.O.G too.. I once had a S.O.G and the thing broke on me so maybe that's why I never got to serious about hawks until seeing recently. Cold Steel broke too but atleast you can get replacement handles. These ones seem indestructible damn near.

      @@doejon9424 the problem with SOG and the earlier designs was always the handle. I have one broken SOG. Just 1 because I wasn’t gonna do that again 😁. I have a bunch of traditional tomahawks which are much better. I’ve never broken a wooden tomahawk haft but it is not confidence inspiring to have a handle break on you. Winkler really revolutionized the market with an integral full tang handle. Including cutouts to reduce weight, dystal taper in the handle and jimping all amazing advancements upon past design. These were used for breaching as well as rescue and extraction from crashed vehicles. Combine all of those features into a “Last of the Mohicans” war hawk design aesthetic and it’s a winner.
