Railways were first introduced to India in 1853 from Bombay to Thane. In 1951 the systems were nationalised as one unit, the Indian Railways, becoming one of the largest networks in the world. IR operates both long distance and suburban rail systems on a multi-gauge network of broad, metre and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities at several places in India and are assigned codes identifying their gauge, kind of power and type of operation. Its operations cover twenty eight states and seven union territories and also provides limited international services to Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Our LIRR are the only trains we have that comes close. Express running on the local track here is between 85-95 mph. But those trains are sick. More than a 100mph easy. Oh, and I've always loved trains!!!

Hi Guys,I Love the high speed trains in this video..don't allow critics to talk nonsense.these trains are nearly as fast as anything in the Uk,Eurostar excepted,but You'll get there..that's for sure.Please though!!,try to get people off the tracks!!..Lovely video.

Lewis Trains many Indians cannot accept the reality. Therefore they term any normal train as high speed train!!

@@Hsh637 you are right. But the per axle load on our tracks is much much greater therefore we cannot afford high speeds like 200kph. The tracks are perfectly capable of 210kph but the wear is much too high to permit the trains

Great video. I love riding high speed trains. We have some great scenic steam powered trains in the US. I am trying to ride them all. ;-)
Indian Railways have very very few steam locomotives, and all of them are in hilly areas. 😭 Now even diseal locos are very hard to spot, more than 75% of Indian Railways locos are electic.

Wow IR is going places with speed and catching up with the west thanks.
High speed limitations and mostly due to the quality of tracks rather than engine power.
A state of the art locomotive engine costs very little compared to the cost of upgrading the tracks.
Besides, very high speed trains are simply not feasible anywhere except very high income countries.
Even China is running some of them at losses.
