After watching this video, I went and took apart my 2017 PM2 (G10, S30V) for the first time in 6 years. I used the same wiha tool to remove the screws, cleaned it, oiled it with the same KPL and it's now resting quietly waiting for the blue loctite to cure on all three screws. Fantastic knife, everyone should buy one, or at least try one.
That’s awesome! Couldn’t agree more. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
I found using Teflon tape works better to secure the screws. It also allows for a much much easier disassembly.
Very happy to hear that this PM2 is easier to take apart. That lanyard hole on some of the other models is an extreme pain in the but.
It really is. The removal tool is a huge help, but so it’s not needing another tool lol. Very happy with this one overall. Thanks for checking it out
Lanyard hole at my manix 2 15v isnt even coming off. Was a pain in the ass to get new titanium scales on. 😂 But damn I love it!
What a great video! Thank you so much for the update! I just got mine today, you eased my mind about the thin cut out!
You got a new subscriber!
Welcome! Happy to help. Thank you so much!
Cool video. Absolutely love the crucarta, it’s in my top 3 fav knives for sure ❤
Thank you 🙏🏽 same boat here
Awesome review! I had lock stick on two of my PM'2s but got a great tip from Blades and Fades in one of his videos concerning lock stick. Instead of oiling the area where the lock meets the blade like I first tried, he advised on his video to spray EDCI into the area where the lock meets the blade. I did it on both knives and it solved the problem, never had a lock stick since. Thanks for sharing brother!
Thank you so much! Sean rocks. Another tip for lock stick is to just sharpie the lock face. That worked on my Spydiechef. Really appreciate you stopping by brother!
Dig break-downs. Thanks for mention of left hand hold perspective. Beautiful thing, form balanced with function.
Thank you brother! Yeah the lefty thing is cool, it’s not the same, but it’s easy to act like you can’t use it left handed when you actually can. Elegance in simplicity.
Great video! Big fan of the PM2 as well, I have shipwrecked copper scales on mine. Thanks for the tag!!
Thank you! That sounds awesome. Thanks for stopping by!
I have the Manix 2 XL in Cruwear a Knife Center exclusive, and it's great! Cruwear is fantastic!
That’s an awesome knife and steel combo! Thanks for stopping by!
Sweet review. I so love Cruwear.
Thanks! It’s fantastic. Appreciate you stopping by!
The best version of the pm2 in my opinion! Great share brother!
No argument here lol. Thanks brother! Good to see you, have a great day!
Great video! I love the tear down. I really appreciate the tag. I'll have to check out the others you tagged as well.
Thanks! For sure brother! Thanks for watching!
Great video 😊you know I love my pm2s
Thanks Alex! That’s because you have excellent taste!
Love the new intro. Never had a cruwear blade but heard good things.
Thanks! It’s the only one I have. Wouldn’t hesitate to get another one. Have a great day!
@@edc4fun you too!
I have the CruCarta PM2 really like it. Great knife.
It’s fantastic. Great to see you Rusty. Have a good weekend!
Fantastic video Dennis! Love those brown micarda scales. I enjoyed the break down too brother! Have a great Thanksgiving 🙂🇺🇸🔥👍👍
Thank you so much brother! Really glad you enjoyed. Happy thanksgiving!
Love this model, bought 3 just too have in the collection. Will probably black one all out and have the scales cerakoted and throw on a dlc cruwear blade. Great model.👍🏻
Me too. That sounds awesome! Thanks for stopping by!
Great review
Thank you
I'm glad I got to see this review. I just ordered one 2 days ago. I was debating s45vn or cruwear. I live in a very dry climate area, so i'll take my chances on the rusting factor, steel that rolls vs chips, and easier to sharpen with my stones. Good review. Thanks.
Thanks for checking it out. It really is an excellent steel. I have s45vn also and really like it. Cruwear definitely edges it out for me though.
Great video..very informative..Thank you for sharing and the tag..and that’s my jam bro..I was dad dancing during this lol
Lol it lives in my head rent free. You’re most welcome. Thanks for checking it out!

The pm2 and Delica got me have the perfect blade shape for all around use
Totally agree. Thanks for watching!
I looooooove mine, it's truly as good as a production knife can get! It's cold and humid where I live, the cruwear's been fine. If this knife was a car it'd be a Ford GT
Well said, thanks for watching!
Ford GTs suck
Thanks for watching!
The pm2 is a great knife. I have one in 20cv. I'd like to get a tanto and wharncliff too. Great review 👍
Thanks! I have a few examples of 20cv and absolutely love it. Probably my favorite overall. Have a great weekend!
It’s Such a good knife. I finally got the Cruwear PM2 and I’ve been thinking about what to do for customizations. Lol. 👊💪
Glad you got one! It’s a staple in my rotation. I originally thought I’d skinny mod mine and make some scales, but I really enjoy it as is.
Great video brother
Thank you so much bro! Have a great day!
The bomb
Definitely. Thanks!
Very nice knife and I kike the handle color😊👋
Thank you very much! I think the color looks good too. Have a great day!
Sweet pick up! I need to pull the trigger on this one. Im still in love with the Rex45 PM2! Awesome chat my bladed brotha 🇺🇸👊🔪🔥

Awesome variant of this hall of famer! I went straight for the Shaman as my first Spyderco, but plan on getting one of these someday. Nice long term review brother!👊

Have had good luck with EDCi. In my opinion a very easy product to use.
Excellent. Will keep that in mind. Same here for frog lube.
I have the standard S30V satin black G10, ive had it for almost 3 years and loooove it.
I want this one but with a Black Blade….
Can’t go wrong with that, I like s30v too. Knife center has the black Cruwear with smooth g10 handles and DLT has the black Cruwear with purple g10 (both have the standard nested liners, not like this one with full liners). Thanks for watching!

@@isthebeeflol lol yep. Once you get that first one outta the way it’s on!
Like your honesty in that youève never actully sharpened the blade. Just stropped it 2x. What exactly have you used the knife forÉ Curious. Butting ______É My concern about Spyderco knives like the PM2 is they donèt have sharpening choils...has been a must for me....
I was wonder how far th cutting edge would have receeded in a year after 'x number of sharpeningsÈ...heh...
Thanks. I’ve sharpened it since then and it took a very sticky edge. This knife is mostly used for processing wood. I have other spydercos that I’ve sharpened multiple times with no issue regardless of not having a sharpening choil. It’s really a preference thing. Thanks for stopping by!
Great video. Is there anything stopping you from swapping scales with another PM2 onto the Cruwear knife? Picked one up today and debated buying aftermarket titanium scales.
Thanks! Since the liners in this model are full instead of nested like the standard pm2s you can’t swap the scales, but if you have a standard pm2 you can swap the blades and then swap the scales.
Im deciding between this one and the maxamet one. I know the maxamet will have slightly better edge retention but cruwear will be far tougher and way easier to sharpen.
Cruwear all day 👊🏽
@@edc4fun thank you. That settles it. Thank you for the super quick reply sir
Just came across this video of yours! I am currently deciding whether to go for the CruWear PM2 or just go with the basic S45VN one. I had an S30V model for years but it was lost due to a police encounter. My only concern about the CruWear is the corrosion resistance. I think I’ll be fine though, although I am on the east coast by the salt water. Falmouth, MA (Cape Cod) Prob will just pull the trigger. 203 for the CruWear as opposed to 186 for the S45VN. Thanks for the vid!
Also, just noticed the Wiha driver! I actually ordered one of those as well and the bit selector set with a few extra t6 and t8 bits. Also I submitted a request to Wiha and they sent me an interesting response. I will put that here.
“Did you know that a majority of modern day knife manufacturers have begun using Torx Plus fasteners? This is most likely the reason you are stripping your screws and rounding out bits! If you are unfamiliar with Torx Plus, it is quite similar to Torx, but the points are rounded, so it resembles a flower rather than a star!
Typically, we do not replace bits under warranty as they are considered consumable or wear easily. However, due to the situation, we are happy to replace yours this one time! We will also throw in a IP6 (torx plus) bit for you to try out with your knife. I’ve put those on order for you and I expect they will ship in the next 2-3 business days!”
Thought it was interesting that there is possibly different torx screws being used. Not sure if Spyderco uses them though?
Thanks! With Black Friday around the corner I’d keep my eye out for a sale on these. Last year they were as low as 140! Unless you never clean your blade I don’t think the corrosion is an issue.
@@DKL3825 that is very interesting. I’ve not heard that before. I haven’t had an issue with the torx on my american spydercos (I have with the Chinese tenacious) as far as I know it’s standard torx
FYI there’s a Crucarta pm2 on knafsale right now for 175
You spelled knives as kinves on your opening EDC4FUN logo. Great video!! Just a heads up!
That’s funny, you’re the first person to mention it 😂 thank you!
Great video. I pick this one up last month and it is my 1st “nice” knife and 2nd knife in total. So I’m all new to this. But I am interested in what you said about swapping the blades because I think this would look great with like an acid and stonewashed finish. But because I feel like I would messed up if I did it myself, I would like to see if I can purchase a blade that’s already done so I guess my question is is there a secondary market where I can just buy the blade without the knife. I looked on eBay but I didn’t really find anything.
Hi Jason! Wow you picked a great one! Acid & stonewashed is my favorite finish too. You could wait for one to come up on the secondary, but you may be better off finding someone to do it for you like Knathans Knives or knife modders. Another option would be to buy one new from Knives Plus. Also, if you’ve ever considered doing it yourself, buy some cheap knives to practice on before doing on the nice one. Thank you so much for watching hope to see you around again!
@@edc4fun appreciate all the help!!
@@vr6trooper for sure, you’re welcome!
The full liners; which make the knife heavier, and incompatible with aftermarket PM2 scales, and the overly large lock cutout, (compared to every other PM2), are a huge step back in design, imo. I am very glad that DLT offers an exclusive CruWear PM2, (with standard liners and G-10 scales), as a superior alternative. I bought that instead.
I have both and they’re each 3.8 oz on my scale. The cutout size isn’t that different and makes no difference in my experience. Plus with the full liners you can do a skinny mod if you wanted and it’s easier to make your own scales, although I like these scales a lot. Thanks for watching!
@@edc4fun Glad to hear that the “CruCarta” version is no heavier, at least. Still thoroughly unimpressed with the changes they made to this particular model, though. Very few people want to make their own scales, when a huge variety of amazing aftermarket scales exist for EVERY other PM2.
Anyway, it’s yer knaf. Glad ya like it.
@@sonofliberty78 lol yeah I hear ya on that. It’s really not much different overall and in the light of the success of the standard pm2 it can seem tame. A true testament to the standard design: they didn’t change much because they really didn’t have to.
@@edc4fun You should get a Lil Temperance3, (or LT3 LW), and review that. More people need to experience the sublime design of that knife. My LT3 kicked my PM2 outta my pocket months ago, and I carry it every day now. It’s that good. There’s a K390 LT3 LW that is “coming soon”. I’ll be buying that one too, just as soon as it’s available. 👍
@@sonofliberty78 that sounds awesome! I’ll have to keep an eye out for that one. Thanks!
i just got one in cruwear but with the smooth black g10, mine is really stiff on the lock like it hurts to press in, you think that’s a problem or maybe it’ll break in? also i live in nc and got one with dlc coating you think rust will be a problem?
That’s an awesome setup right there! I’m in the mid Atlantic and haven’t had any issues at all so you should be good to go. Is the lock stiff every time or just every so often?
@@edc4fun it’s sorta loosening up now afyer messing with it. but i love the knife just scared of rust bc the middle of NC gets hot and humid. i have heard that cruwear actually resists rust fairly well, but i have an s30v manix otw too which i’ll probably end up carrying a lot more
@@acid6urns I was surprised at how well it resists rust. Some people make it seem like it would just instantly rust and I’ve not had a spot on it. Every now and again I’ll put frog lube on it just in case. That’s awesome you’re getting a Manix 2; another one of my favorites.
Unless you actively try to break the micarta where the lock is, this design is fine. The micarta flexes all the way down to the compression lock with ease. No cracking no breaking. It has nowhere to go after that so i dont see where this is a problem. In my opinion the micarta is way more comfortable in the hand than g10.
Totally agree. People were concerned when these were first released. I have yet to see where it’s been a problem. Thanks
Cleanest natural micarta I’ve ever seen after one year of ‘use’. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
It’s been 2 years now and doesn’t look much different. Guess I should rub some dirt and oil on it to make it look more “used” since actually carrying and using it doesn’t do it for you 🤣
Do you have any issues with micarya near locking mechanism? Is it stretch easily?
Nope, there a little flex but it’s never been an issue.
@@edc4fun is it crue wear far away from maxamet in edge retention, and others stuff? I’m stuck between para 3 maxamet and pm2 cruewear. Fidget factory is also important for me 😅
@@blackhole6834 maxamet has better edge retention, but Cruwear is tougher and easier to sharpen
Mine has developed some lock stick now. Seems common on these eh?
Probably, I haven’t heard anyone else mention it, but I’m sure we aren’t the only ones.
Waiting for the military 2 in cruwear. I can get the s110v but already got that steel in the para 3. Just need to be patient to not pull the trigger yet. 😅
The waiting game 😭
@@edc4fun The pain is real! 😂
@@rj_ofb part of me wants to get all the Cruwear models, but that’s less other stuff I can get lol
@@edc4fun Haha true, I kind of was like that with Maxamet. But I dont like the Manix 2 because it cant be opened for cleaning. No screws. 😭 Only cruwear I got is the anonimous, and I havent even tried it out yet. 😶
Might not be a good idea to switch blades without also switching locks - I’ve heard that the lock steels are tempered to match the blade hardness for longevity…
Thanks. I haven’t had any lock issues
Tips on keeping it rust free?
Frog lube; I use it on all my blades.
Brother just gave me one as a gift, super cool but the action is terrible! Cant be flicked open at all without simultaneously flicking my wrist down quite hard. Feels like sandpaper opening it and it screeches. It is brand new, any idea how I can resolve this?
What a cool gift! That action sounds like it needs to be adjusted though. The pivot is probably over tightened.
@@edc4fun when depressing the compression lock the blade moves freely and easily as it should, but when the little ball on the lock is touching the blade is when it's too much friction. Tried loosening the pivot screw to no avail. Maybe just underlubricated? Just seems odd straight out of the box.
@@alexsuydam7543 the locking tab might be bent over too far. Put some lubricant on the detent ball (KPL or similar product with a needle applicator is ideal). If that doesn’t help, you may want to consider either taking it apart and bending it back to relieve the tension or sending it back for warranty.
Nice brother!!!! This is a pm2 I would want for sure. Is it just me or has spyderco's qc gotten a lot better?
Thank you so much! I’d say it’s even a candidate for 1 knife for life. Good to see you brother. Have a great day!

@@FreedomFroggear well it’s a candidate, but not quite #1 yet lol.. so many knives, so little time. Hope you’re feeling better. Looking forward to seeing what you got.
My scales went dark after a week. Love the knife but mine didn’t stay like that.
The micarta on my zwear shaman did that. This one wasn’t as light when I got it and even now it’s still only a little darker than in this video. Sort of reminds me of how denim micarta reacts.
I'm going to get into the weeds a bit here so forgive me if I'm getting to specific.
Stainless steel doesn't care about the overall %chromium. It only cares about the chromium in solution (not bound up in carbides). Generally speaking 11% chromium in solution gets you to a very very stainless steel but not all steels with 11% chromium overall will be stainless.
Don’t mind the weeds at all my friend. There’s also something to be said about martensitic vs ferritic, etc. for most of us laymen the chromium content is enough to make us sound like we know what we’re talking about
Looks like the data sheet is for conventional Cruwear, not CPM Cruwear like the PM2 BTW.
Thanks. Been a while since I put this together, but I’m sure that graphic probably just looked better or I might have just been saying something about Cruwear in general.
My only criticism is that the holes on mine aren’t perfectly lined up, so I can’t reverse the clip, in order to carry it tip-down :(
That stinks. Did you reach out to spyderco?

So why couldn’t you throw these scales on a normal pm2 with the regular liners? I get they are different but what about the normal ones keeps these scales from being able to go on? Asking because I want to make my own micarta scales but I don’t want to mill them, just want to keep them flat but is what you’re saying mean I can’t do that for some reason? Because I’m under the impression that either way, and even though they’re different LOOKING, they’re both still flat so how can that keep flat scales from being added on? Would love a response before I put time into making some
I don’t have my regular PM2 anymore to check, but the holes for the hardware might not line up. However, if you’re making your own flat scales to go on a standard PM2 I guess that would work. You may have to get creative with the fit and finish since the liners are designed to be nested, the perimeter will have some overhang. Either way if you go for it I bet you’d learn a lot. Experience is a great teacher. Start with cheap materials (or just buy enough to make another set if you screw up). Let me know if you do how it turns out.
@@edc4fun I’m going to just try it out and see how it plays out! I’ll post results when finished and I’ll make sure to let you know on this comment thread. Thanks for the quick response!
