- They seem instinctively to know that danger is lurking, and they're right. Dogs and escalators are not a good mix. Suki the chihuahua got her paws caught in the metal grate when she reached the top of an escalator. Her paws got chewed up, and she went to the vet for surgery. Vets say it's best to use the stairs or take the elevator when you have your dog with you. It doesn't matter how big the dog is, carrying them is the only safe way to go. #InsideEdition

Just the other day I stumbled on a girls vlog showing her service dog (Siberian Husky) in action. At the end, the dogs nail had been split down the middle & had blood everywhere. The dog didnt show any signs of distress. She only noticed it when there was blood on the ground as they walked. She seemed to think it happened when another dog ran up wanting to play but I had a feeling it could've happened on the escalator.

When my dog was getting trained to be a service dog for my mom, she distinctly told us do not use the escalators. Only use the elevator or regular stairs because of this reason.

So... I’m literally terrified of escalators. Last week, I went to the mall with my sisters and mom and I almost fell down the escalator with one of them in my hand. Now I cannot imagine taking my dog with me. It’s just so scary to think about. 😅

My sister has a service dog and one of the multiple things he can't do is go on an escalator. He can go on travelators if he jumps on and of it though (he's trained to jump at the command hup)

Carrying them is not the only safe way. They can be trained to jump over the end, or they can wear boot. Also keep in mind that a long haired dig can also get their fur stuck to the sides.
