By-Tor of course, but I must say that the pedals are essentially are form of keyboards, and when you play the pedals you're essentially playing the keyboards, with your feet our course.
A guitarist I once played with told me that Alex was a technically perfect guitarist by the time he was 18. After that it was all about invention and creativity for him, he had nothing more to prove to anyone.
The three of them are just so tight, honestly this is musical gold, the sound of Alex's guitar, the twang off geddy's bass, and the genius of the sad to say late mr peart ( struggling with that big time ) it's just masterfull and I'm so grateful for their incredible talent and contribution to music. They really did spawn generations of musicians because of what they did. Thank you RUSH. 👏👏👏
@Shallex Anyone who doesn't know the difference between "base" and "bass" and claims to love music is an idiot...unless they are younger than 12 years old maybe.
@@tc1817 I really think you should relax. Not everybody is a great speller and maybe he meant to say “bass” but made a typo, it doesn’t mean he is a music noob.
I wish they would've filmed more of Geddy's bass playing, especially during the solo. The thing is with Rush, during a solo, all three of them are doing wicked stuff, so you gotta show them all.
Geddy Lee is a 3-piece band all by himself! (Bass, vocals, synths/foot pedals) Although Neil and Alex might be even more amazing! Amazing how much talent Rush has! How did possibly the World’s best drummer, guitarist, and bassist end up in the same 3-piece band?
I do know that Alex plays the taurus pedals as well, but mostly to trigger sequencers and other samples. Neil does the same as well, but with his electronic percussion. He might hit one of his Roland V pads that's programmed to trigger the sequencer during the chorus segments of The Spirit Of Radio... I don't know of he controls that sequencer during that song for sure. I was was just using that as an example
Ive heard so many people cover Rush and especially all kinds of drummers covering Neil's work, and their are many here on CZcams that can do a great job playing these songs, but then you come over and watch the Originals, The Pros and You then realize how truly talented these 3 were together. RIP Neil and Thank You
I know right? I grew up with Geddy and Neil and Alex?! (I even had that Giant Rush "A Farewell To Kings" Promo Poster From Spencer's Gifts at The Mall too?! (Where has the Time Gone,I was 15 in 1980 (Permanent Waves Era) oh the Many Great Rush Memories I Still Have!🤘🤘🤓🤓😎😎🎸🎶
My first Rush concert was seeing them on this tour. Absolutely incredible . What an amazing band they were. The absolute best musicians anyone could hope to be. Masters of their class. This is one of my favourites from my fave album of theirs. just amazing
I remember when PW came out. I was listening to this song on headphones and thinking “there’s NO WAY they can play this live”. Well, I saw them on that tour and was so glad I was wrong. This is one of the most intricate, densely layered songs ever recorded by any rock band… and Rush absolutely nailed it live. Every. Damn. Time. RIP Neil.
I was fortunate enough to get a sneak preview of this song before the album was released. I saw Rush perform a couple songs from the up-and-coming Power Windows album. As always, a great show from a tight band!
My favorite thing in the world was watching this old 90s interview of eddie van halen. The interviewer goes "hows it feel to be the greatest guitarist on earth?" Without missing a beat eddie goes "what do you mean? Im not Alex lifeson!" Lol. Fantastic lol
Said it before - love that ending!! it's a corny thing we did in garage bands in the 60's, too.. but those spinning sticks by Peart get me every time! I drove home today just waiting to see this vid again!!!
Love the Power Windows album! It’s my favorite 80s Rush Album besides Moving Pictures. Signals and GUP are also great. I like HYF and Presto as well, but I don’t see them as strong as the other ones from that decade, but those are still great albums. Rush never really had a single terrible album in my opinion, which is one of the reasons that I love them. They kept the same lineup since Fly by Night all the way to the end, and were one of the best bands when it came to adapting their sound to meet the current style of rock. The straight up Proggy 70s stuff was their best no question, but they were really good at taking the Prog rock approach to New Wave style music in the 80s, and a more straight Hard Rock sound from the 90s onward! I love every era of Rush, they were just so freaking good! Rip to the Neil “The Professor” Peart. Genius Lyric writer, and better at lyrics than all rappers. Rush is always Dirk Lerxst and Pratt. I’m 20 years old, and I need my generation Z to listen to some Rush because the rap thing isn’t as cool as Rush!
yup.. my fav performance of 'Big Money' also.... 3 virtuosos... Pert dragging out the finale and then pretending at the end that he forgot what's next is classic...
FUCK YEAH. Old video that I’ve seen so many times but never commented on. So much awesomeness here. From Alex’s Staccato, Geddy’s bass, to the ending ... including Neals head scratch. It’s just awesome. Oh if I could reverse time.
As far as 3 man bands it's Rush and Cream It's amazing the sound rush could create live with just 3 guys Cream too but a different stripped down sound which was great But Rush makes it sound like there are 10 guys playing. Glad I saw them 3 times....wish it had been more.
Does the ending of this give anyone else the most chills they've ever experienced? It absolutely destroys me. Also, anytime I play this song in my car I end up driving like 140. I'd have to explain to the officer if I ever got pulled over like sorry sir I was listening to Big Money. Hopefully he'd understand.
geddy's ability to play those bass lines and sing is just insaaaane
I think he has multiple brains
Not to mention to he plays the keyboards as well.
Brendan McClelland don’t forget the pedals
By-Tor of course, but I must say that the pedals are essentially are form of keyboards, and when you play the pedals you're essentially playing the keyboards, with your feet our course.

Alex is SUCH a master! He paints pictures and soundcapes with his guitar! So musical...
This exact performance (not the studio, not another live, but this exact one) is my favorite guitar solo of all time I think; Its amazing.
All three of these of guys had the highest possible musicality. Rest in peace, Neil.
R.I.P Neil :-'(....you are the best Drummer for all Time.
Simple fact of life.
The way Alex nails the harmonics in the solo is just outstanding,
One of his best. Not about a lot of notes, but about harmonics and texture.
A guitarist I once played with told me that Alex was a technically perfect guitarist by the time he was 18. After that it was all about invention and creativity for him, he had nothing more to prove to anyone.
But what I love is how the rhythm kings build up around his harmonics. That's what emphasizes how great they sound
@@scottshields113 Exactly!

The way Neil scratches his head right at end... priceless!!!

"base" hahahahaha You must be quite the music fan.

love the drumming from 3min 35 onwards,
paul fletcher I love all of their parts from that point. This entire solo is fucking amazing because of how well the 3 of them perform it.
Absolutely, they all play hard and amazingly. Geddy gets all the singing air time so they have to share a little spotlight😜
Neil said that when Alex does a solo, all 3 are soloing. And you nailed it in your statement about that.

Crying watching this knowing I'll never see it live again 🥺
If you’re one of those, “I didn’t like the synth era” guys, look at what you missed out on here….this track, this performance is sick….
The snare fills that start around 5:50 blow my mind.
Yep
That gives me an adrenaline RUSH😁
They were such goofballs. And I loved it.

Geddy Lee is an alien... playing this stuff along with singing isnt for everyone out there.
One of the best live bands ever! They’re so tight here.

3 awesome Canadians singing about how the worship of money corrupts those who worship money !!!!!!!!!!
This is why Alex Lifeson is one of the best guitar players. Geddy Lee is a monster machine!
the fucking most rocking band that ever played on planet earth,, attention, people of the solar system we have assumed control

I only listen to this version of Big Money beginning with the iconic intro a Show of Hands has.

One my favorite Lifeson solos. Incredible
These guys were on top of the world back then. And it shows in their faces. The way they moved around on stage. They were having fun
One of the best live performances and recordings of live performances I've ever heard
Neil's precision on hi hat with that bass drum just driving the song when Alex begins that solo 🤯

Put on a really good set of headphones or listen to this on a high-end audio system, and experience it the way it was meant to be!
Great jam at the end.....Neil's snare fills while not even looking at the drums, wow. RiP Neil 🙏🙏
