Thank you so much! I was a cashier eight years ago for a very short period of time so I forgot how to close out a register. Now I'm applying for a position that requires cash handling and I need to show them that I know how to close out a register. This is extremely helpful! I'll update you on the outcome ;-)

    Thanks, mate.
I see the video has not had much response, but it really helped me out. I've been doing it for just over a year myself, but i needed to write down a step by step guide, so this just helped tremendously.
    Cheers.

How you feel about not manually counting each drawer and just doing random register audits throughout the day with cashiers sharing drawers?

When it was posted in march of 2013 both ears worked. Then in June of 2013 Google upgraded CZcams, so it would not work. I was not very happy about this! Almost every video I posted prior to June of 2013 with that software has that problem.

Yeah this one's like 8 years old. . .had to record on a cassette tape and upload a computer. . then CZcams changed it to where it went from playing in both ears to only one. Sorry about that. Concepts are still good though. Basically, when will add up all the checks and make sure that total matches the total of the computer. If it doesn't match look through the transactions for discrepancies. Same thing with cash transactions. Also, try to make sure that the drawer has a good supply of pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters as well as ones, fives, tens and twenties depending on how much money the drawer starts with. A gas station might only start with a hundred bucks and do lots of drops into the safe throughout the day. Where as a retail store might start with $200 and only do one to two bank deposits per day where is it's on safe but no safe drops. Credit cards are the easiest to deal with as one just needs to count the number of receipts and make sure it matches the number of transactions on the computer or register tape. Also voided transactions need to be kept track of and typically signed off by multiple people. Voided transactions are where one types in the wrong thing and needs to fix it. However, voids can be a good area for employees to internally steal from the company so that is something that needs to be monitored for good internal controls and to prevent company shrinkage or loss as we would say in English.

I am supposed to go to bank to issue refund on the cards or hand out cash?
Because the customer is so impatient he wants to punch me in because he changed his mind.

    • @garydevries5961

@@Takeitlightly6 depends on what the store policy is and how the item was initially purchased. Typically, only cash refunds for cash purchases (if the items are in good condition or if the manager approved it). For other situations (credit cards or checks) we would typically do store credit/exchange (unless the manager approved otherwise). If the customer had a receipt or could explain the date and time of purchase without a receipt and it matched what I saw on the computer, then I might be inclined to give them cash back. Sometimes, there can be theft involved and from my experience, those are the customers that complain the loudest (although sometimes customers do you have legitimate complaints about customer service as well). Usually, if one walks through what happened with the customer logically and explains a range of options (that one has available from company policy to resolve the situation) they will calm down.

That just made zero CENTS (sense) at all. Customers make returns for the purpose of receiving said amount for the product or service back to them. The word refund means exactly that: "To issue payment back to consumer." Oh, hey Mr. Customer you wanted to return that? Ok, you owe us a $100 for that refund you wanted." BYE FELICIA!
