according to the legend this song is based off of, the Knight killed a demon and was in turn possesed by it. When the Shrine Maiden killed him for her mother's revenge, the demon possesed her instead. That be the gist of it.
Sooooo let me get this straight:
Gakupo was possessed by a demon (explains the blue glowing eyes) since the demon found Gakupo a person of strength. After possessing him the demon made Gakupo kill many people, including everyone from Gakuko's village. Since then Gakuko wanted to get revenge (Explains the red eyes). Dressing up as a shrine maiden Gakuko danced for Gakupo so she can get close to him and stab him. Once Gakuko stabbed him the demon left Gakupo's body to possess Gakuko's body because 1:Gakupo was dying 2:Gakuko was stronger than Gakupo. So in the end Gakupo died (AGAIN) and Gakuko was possessed by the demon.

Well if you watch the credits? The demon had a physical form and likely did something to piss gakupo off, which lead gakupo to kill it. However the demon was still powerful as a spirit and needed a physical body and gakupo was a strong person who could serve as a vessel. THEN the events of your explanation happen.
But in the end it didn't matter: the demon has a new host, gakuko had gotten what she wanted at the cost of her free-will, and gakupo died.

This is definitely an analogy for revenge. The idea that hatred is passed on by man and is an endless cycle so long as there is someone to harbor the desire for vengeance when evil is done to them. It is so prominent in this song that I feel the need to just sit back and ponder for a while...
I don't see why everyone thinks that the black haired girl is Miku. It clearly says in the tittle Gakupo and Gakuko. Gakuko is just a genderbend of Gakupo. But whoever wants to believe its Miku, then its Miku.

Gakupo was ordered to kill a possesed woman, but before he was able to kill her, the demon entered his body and ate his soul. He became a killing machine, and killed Gakuko's beloved friends and family. She trained at a academy so she could get revenge on Gakupo. When she was about to kill Gakupo, the demon entered her body. This is just my opinion of what the song's about.
its pretty much a cycle of passing sin onto another is the gist im getting, the knight killed the demon , was possessed, the girl killed him and became possessed thus the cycle surely kept going long after the song ended

Possibly because he is based off of a samurai, and when they were dishonored or something of the sort, they would stab themselves with a knife or their sword. But perhaps they didn't want a character who commits suicide in each song that he dies in so he fights to the death, honorably.

What I gathered is that a demon possessed Gakupo, and it made him do evil things. The priestess killed him, but the demon simply entered her body, and the real Gakupo dies. The demon continues living in the female version of Gakupo, Gakuko.

No No No. What happened is Gakupo went to kill a possessed woman, but at the last second the demon switched bodies and the demon now inside gakupo's body killed the body gakupo's soul is in. Gakuko noticed that it gakupo and was instead the demon that was inside gakupo's body now. She went to kill the demon inside gakupo and the demon switched again into gakuko's body as gakuko stabs the demon inside gakupo. gakuko realizing she had been fatally stabbed and the demon turns gakuko into petals.

I don't think she switched Gakuko's soul into Gakupo's body, but rather was repressing Gakupo's soul, and using his body as her own needs. In the first scene when she puts the knife up to him, he is surprised until that blue hue in his eyes take over,which suggest the demon becoming active again.She stabs him, the demon takes her body over like she did his, and her soul is repressed like his. He comes back confused, but she hugs him, making him feel at peace, which is what the petals symbolize.

are you sure that it is gatsu that belongs there instead of tsuki? because sure the kanji for tsuki (moon) and gatsu (month) are very much the same but for the english translation that you wrote "If the moon is captured, this fan is on the moon" i don't see anything about months on there so i think it's tsuki instead of gatsu although if i'm wrong i'm sorry orz

Gakupo sought to kill a demon, but the demon went into him, and made him do evil things, killing innocent people, including Gakuko's (friend?loved one?) and Gakuko was filled with hatred so she sought to kill Gakupo. She arrives at the palace and is attacked by assasins, killed them and stabbed Gakupo. But the demon just went into Gakuko's body instead, and Gakupo had realized he had been stabbed. Then the demon hugged Gakupo, and turned him into Sakura flowers.

Seems like the story is a young lady's village is murdered. She trains in the ninja art to exact her revenge on the young man that did them in. When she finally does kill him she is taken over by the demon because her hate and anger opened her up to its influence, and eventually its control. Sadly, the exact same thing happened to the young man, who had been wronged in some way by another who had been taken over by the demon. Looks like you need to kill it without the intent of revenge to suceed
Well, Gakupo was possessed by a demon, and then when he's stabbed the demon transfers to Gakuko. So that's why the changing eye color.

ok so basically Gakupo was cursed and killed a person that was close to Gakuko. Time passes and Gakuko tracks Gakupo to his palace one full moon night and dances for him as he drinks sake.Gakuko takes out a knife and Gakupo takes out a sward.Gakuko stabs Gakupo but before he dies Gakupo passes his curse to Gakuko... does this sound rite?
So is it that at the end, somehow Gackupo switched bodies with the girl hence forth him living and her dying?
I thought the petals just symbolized the two samurai-like people in the song. Samurai were kind of obsessed with Cherryblossoms.

And can someone please give me an exact story of what's going on? I've read the other comments, which were good opinions, but I want the original story. Usually I would get it after reading the subs, but this song had many repeated lines, so I got kind of confused.

Basically a demon (blue eyes) uses Gakupo(boy) as its host. Gakuko (girl with red eyes) tries to kill Gakupo for killing her clan. Gakuko disguises herself as a shrine maiden. When gakuko stabs Gakupo, the demon possesses Gakuko since Gakupo (the demons host body) is dying.

Gakupo didn't die. He exchanged bodies with miku when he was looking at her after he'd been stabbed and his soul went into her so she became him. So miku actually died and gakupo killed her.
that's not Miku. And it wasn't Gakupo who switched bodies with her, it was an evil spirit (the blue eyed silhouette) who went from him to her.
