  • What’s so bad about wanting to do it all? In her talk, Leeza Petrov uses personal anecdotes on ambition and personal achievement to describe her early life. She goes on to discuss how ambition and success are not always mutually exclusive, and deconstructs the culture of overachievement which manifests as a toxic ideology in our world.
Leeza Petrov is a junior at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA

I am an over achiever. I did it on my terms, and at my own capability. I did it for me. Not for society, or for validation. This was a personal journey.

Ikr, Yeah i want the best for myself. What's wrong in that. And no i don't want to sacrifice for others. I did so much hardwork and why should I give it someone else. I would better than others and I'm not going to change

Then you’re not an overachiever🙃 Overachieving is not about how much you work or how successful you are, it’s about the way you approach achievements. If you’re trying to achieve things to prove to yourself and others that you are enough, you’re an over achiever. If you’re just doing it because you love the things you do, you go “at your own capability” and don’t force yourself to do more in a desperate need to be important, you’re healthy and you’re not who she’s talking about

Define Over achieving ? It's wanting to please everybody else but you. That is a Passion killer. That is ''Culture''...It's a marketing tool that brings false expectations. She is right. Passion does not walk on other people's head. It bring people together.. Ambition does not care. Passion does not. Ambition comes from the head. Passion comes from heart.

Brilliant Talk. This is a definitely a societal problem across the lifespan. I feel that way myself since I started my journey in occupational therapy school. I had a fair share of achievements (including going on the TEDx stage on the second time later this month). However, I also had my fair share of rejections. In the last 2 years, I truly thought over what you said in the beginning. I have let my disappointments go and viewed them as blessing in disguise for opportunities that perhaps fit me better in any way. Because of my change in viewing achievements, I actually won a bigger prize... in growing more professionally than when I started occupational therapy school and being too achievement driven.

Being an overachiever is not a bad thing though. That meaning is you are immersed enough to do something you really want. If you need some rest, go for it. Simple solution. There isn't much love in the school that we are passionate about, but still, we got to do them.

Sometimes overachievers achieve things even if they are not that much immersed in them. They want to show others that they are worthy and deserve to win.
