This is why I don’t like this grant payments. Her oldest is 18 and already has a kid and now I have to pay taxes that ends up paying her daughter who decided to have a child meanwhile I don’t have a child because I’m to busy working. This is why this “All-Pay” needs to end

You are not wrong. But what is the alternative? You want the innocent child to perish in total poverty?
It would be best if people think before making babies. But these are very very poor people. They are not educated. You cannot expect them to act rationally as educated people.
These people are on the fringes of thr capitalist system, they have no marketable skills. They need to be integrated by the state into occupations that suit their abilities, but grants them at least a basic living standard and economuc integration, the way its done in socialist and social democratic societies. Capitalism doesn't offer any solutions to uplift such people.

@@esahm373Here we are again making excuses for people not practicing family planning. They are on grants for reasons that are political which is why ANC often reminds them. Blaming this on capitalism when the state can just offer adequate resources is pathetic.

@@Tripleexel Making excuses? Is it really too difficult to comprehend my rather simple comment highlighting the mechanisms behind unplanned parenthood at an young age? Are you arguing that these girls have a chance to engage in proper family planning, but just refuse to, because they love to be burdened with a child that they cannot feed, nor offer anything of substance? It seems you are completely out of touch with reality on the ground!

This is indeed the manifestation of housing needs, historically engineered by apartheid spatial planning and further embolden by neoliberal income-base policies .....it would be the highest form of ignorance to tackle the symptoms of this socioeconomic problem without fixing the source of this challenge because by its nature it's a generational and vicious poverty problem.

You can’t provide large scale social housing without government involvement either providing finance or construction. Developed countries do/did the same to create housing stock. Shelter is a basic human need. South Africa’s first national scheme for financing public housing passed into law. The Housing Act, number 35 of 1920, created a fund administered by a Central Housing Board, from which municipalities could borrow to support construction of houses at a lower interest rate than available elsewhere. There has been over a century of public, or state, housing finance, through housing laws and practices. South African public housing practice pre-democracy, including the 1920 Act, has often been described as fundamentally racist. Nkambule (2015: 41-42) wrote that ‘Soon after the formation of the Union in 1910, a housing act was legislated … subsequent spatial settlement in urban spaces and specifically housing policies and programmes were linked … to the broader geo-political system of racial domination in the country.’ It was designed to benefit & give a leg up to the minority European settler class at the expense of all others. Trying to undo this damage + failures or inadequate interventions of the past 30yrs is going to be a work of a lifetime.
