In fact one fun fact is that indian household has 25000 tons of gold ( indian government has approx 900 tons ) meanwhile in usa government has 8000 tons of gold but not that much with private citizens. Indians gift gold in every auspicious occasion be it marriage birth festivals( diwali especially) or birthday ( if you are lucky) which can be used in bad time. ( although people generally avoid a situation where they have to sell their gold) it has more of sentimental value and kind of investment. Gold holds a special place in Indian culture, symbolizing prosperity, beauty, and auspiciousness. It is considered a symbol of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity to the household. Even poor if they can they have something in gold or silver
