Sadly as in Malaysia.. This carrier is 10years away back and always be considered as backliner. I'm graduated degree in MLS. MLTs in Malaysia are stuck at diploma level. We're still waiting to be upgraded. Pray for us.

I'm a medical laboratory scientist. I'm majoring in Bioinformatics. BIOINFORMATICS is an interdisciplinary field, which harnesses computer science, mathematics, physics, and biology. Interesting, right?
Mostly we use computer technology to collect, store, analyze and disseminate biological data and information, such as DNA and amino acid sequences or annotations about those sequences.
The very foundation of bioinformatics is dependent on your ability to code. And so it combines computer science and laboratory medicine. Interdisciplinary. Quite thrilling.

This is pretty representative of what a MLS can do in large lab. I would seek out more information for those who are looking at a smaller size lab because testing techniques will be quite different since this is exclusively automated.

In NZ, labs are moving away from a community lab and hospital lab as a separate entity. More for cost saving for the low population size here in NZ. Micro, Biochem and hematology is pretty much standard in most places, just scaling.

Don't worry about it. Troubleshooting is actually fun, plus you can always call the field engineers and they'll take care of the rest. So ultimately it is not your responsibility.

None of those techs were generalists. Try working the whole lab every night. These girls would have no clue and thus quit after 3 weeks. Way too much work and you need to know everything in every department. Might get away without the microbiology part but you still need to plate stat csf's and do a gram stain. Generalist for 20 years and I pride myself on knowing way more than some of the dr's I work with.
