    Here's a not-so-hot-take...the sharingan should be able to break genjutsu but should NOT be able to instantly induce genjutsu. It made it so that any other genjutsu user is practically useless plot wise and combat wise. If someone tried to use genjutsu they're instantly compared to an Uchiha. Genjutsu is actually an interesting part of the mechanics of Naruto and in part one it was considered to be on par with the other two forms of combat. Part 2 is basically just Ninjutsu with a bit of Taijutsu because who would bother with Genjutsu when even if you dedicated all of your training to its use, you would still be sub-par when compared to an Uchiha.
    Kurenai is genuinely an interesting character. I love her design, and love that she specialized in genjutsu, but we only ever get to see her fight once and that was just to show how inadequate her genjutsu is against an uchiha

    My hot take would be that Itachi wasn't well written. I feel like he was meant to be a villain from the start, which is why we see him do lots of evil things like putting Kakashi and Sasuke in a coma, the Uchiha massacre etc. and was only retconned as a good guy all along because he was cool and popular. He definitely should have remained a villain and maybe should have done even worse things so we side with Sasuke when he kills Itachi.
    It also just makes Sasukes story much more understandable and after Sasuke had killed Itachi he can start working on his redemption and atonement without him going full terrorist mode and making his redemption arc much more believable, and that way he can close the circle of hatred

      I think It was said in some of the first chapters that Itachi cried when he left sauske after the massacre, so I‘m pretty sure that he was not supposed to be a villain from the beginning.
      Also Sasuke only knowing the truth after he killed Itachi was to show that revenge is wrong. Wich then builds up to the point where Naruto actually listens to Nagatos story and doesn’t kill him, beacause he realizes that revenge is wrong.
      Also its not like Itachi just randomly massacred his clan. He was traumatized from seeing the horrors of war as a child and therefore wanted to prevent a new war from breaking out even if he had to sacrifice his own family. If he really would have done it because he just wanted to see how powerful he is, that would’ve been bad written imo.

      Hard agree. I would have taken transitioning itachi into a morally ambiguous character with a smige of tragedy and sympathy but going full good guy was not it. I mean there had to be other solutions, like banishing the utchias or arresting the ringleaders than murdering your own clan. Sure he was ordered to but he didn't have to follow the order. That was his choice thus he deserves at least some blame.

    On the Neji Hot Take: What piss me off more on this is that the excuse of using Neji's death to make Hinata and Naruto grow closer makes Hinata's actions AND CONFESSION during the Pain arc mean nothing. Plus, if Hiashi died instead, his death could act as a start to fulfill Naruto's statement of ending the practice of the Hyuga clan back in the Naruto vs Neji fight. With it, both Hinata and Neji could become leaders of the Hyuga clan during the war, then continue to be dual leaders of the clan, abolishing the branch system all together.
    On the Shikamaru swap with Temari: additional hot take, both become working parents and have Kurenai as a babysitter for Shikadai part time. Shikamaru help raise her and Asuma's daughter. Having her return the favor, allowing Temari and Shikamaru to be working outside the home just makes sense. Plus, Temari was also a rep for the Sand, it just makes sense to change her role to be either frontline for the Leaf and liaison between the two villages. Plus, it's an era of peace, would it kill Kishimoto to have the parents both work during that period?

    Here's a hot take that nobody seems to talk about but me. Naruto's attachment to Sasuke and willingness to instantly forgive everything that he did felt a little creepy. Throughout Shippuden it kinda felt like not only was Naruto trying to bring him back to the village, but he was also forcing him to be his friend. Like Sasuke kept trying to push him away and saying that he didn't like him anymore and Naruto was kind of being like "nope, I don't care, we're friends, you don't get to have any say in this, we have a bond and that's that, I know best."

    • @SneakyPirate54
      @SneakyPirate54 Před 2 měsíci +13

      It's cuz he knew Sasuke was really his friend. Sasuke was trying to push that away and cut all of his ties to go be a bitch and that's why Naruto knew the only way to get to him was to keep that connection there even if it was forcefully. Naruto felt that Sasuke was being tricked or coerced by Orochimaru the whole time. If your friend wants to kill himself you don't let him go through with it even if they're lashing out at you the whole time and telling you all sorts of negative things you know they're not in their right State of mind. Besides Itachi, Naruto was the only one to hold on to Sasuke that much to the point of death. It wasn't so much that he was forcing him to be his friend, they already were from the original show all the way up until Orochimaru made him believe he could be stronger with him. Whereas Naruto got his strength from those around him and knew that Sasuke felt similar to him but nobody wanted to give him a chance. So Naruto knew he couldn't let that bond go or he would let his friend, the same one that shared his meal with him during trials everything else they went through. Rivals are often the best of friends. They just have to get there. Think Kakashi and guy. It's actually really wholesome of Naruto to want to yank Sasuke out of his darkness and was willing to give up his own life for it.

      The reason he learned nothing is that he was pretty bad as a shinobi and had terrible chakra control which was needed for sage mode so teaching him anything more would be pointless. Granted kishimoto could have easily just wrote it that Jaraiya figured out a way to speed up the training process by using shadow clones but since he doesn't have wood style, he may have gotten killed or more injured by Naruto. Him larning flying raijin should have been a thing but I am not sure if Jaraiya knew how to teach it. Honestly the bigger issue is that he never learned that Shadow Clones can be used to carry knowledge and skills until Kakashi straight up tells him in Shippuden. @AbsurdToastling Před 2 měsíci +5

    This is my biggest hot take in all of Naruto: Kisame is the single most underrated shinobi in not only the Akatsuki, but in the entire series, and with his specific set of abilities, he could even handle certain forms of Madara. From bijuu levels of chakra reserves to unbelievable range and volume of Suiton jutsu to perhaps his most dangerous ability for anybody other than Rock Lee and Guy, chakra absorption. And people forget it's not just Samehada, he also has jutsu whose whole shtick is that they absorb the chakra of shinobi they hit or jutsu they interact with, like the Water Shark Bomb. Susano'o is a fantastic defense, yes, and Perfect Susano'o is pretty intimidating, but it's also made of chakra. One swing of Samehada or one blast of Water Shark Bomb and he'll have created a hole in Madara's defenses for either himself or his comrades.
    And then there's the Samehada Fusion... unless you're an Edo Tensei or can use Flying Raijin, you're dead. GG, next map. Because *everybody* needs to breathe and only Kisame can do so underwater, and in a dome of water that follows his every move no less. So it doesn't even matter how far you swim - you aren't getting away. And what's worse, in that form, his very body can steal your chakra on contact. It's just. Kisame is overwhelming. Utterly slept on by the entire fanbase.
    People see Madara drop a couple meteors and think he's unstoppable, but actual combat and power scaling is very, very rarely about raw power, it's about how the specific mechanics of specific abilities interact with each other. Just because Guy can beat Kisame but Madara can outlast Guy doesn't mean Madara immediately has the edge over Kisame. Kisame's abilities completely counter many of his. I think it's primarily because of people's unwillingness to actually consider the strategic and mechanical aspects of Naruto fights that Kisame is always handwaved away. He really, really shouldn't be. He's one of the heaviest hitters in the entire series.

    Kiba and co got done dirty. We saw them kick ass in the rescue arc, and then NEVER AGAIN.
    Kiba became head of the police, that never arrested anyone. Shino became a teacher and TOTALLY rewrote his personality. Hinata indirectly killed her cousin and slept with the MC. Kurenai had a kid and retired (her genjutsu skills were supposed to rival Itachi's, but we've only ever seen her use them once(?)).

    Is Neji's death poetic? I get that him putting his life on the line in the same way his father did to protect Hinata did represents his growth in the fact that he feels compassion for a character that he used to hate for reasons out of her control, but everyone remembers Naruto's speech from the chunin exams, right? Where Neji is struggling with the fact that he's a part of the side branch, and so he is "lesser" than Hinata, but Naruto is a nobody with poor chakra control, so Neji thinks he can beat him on principle.
    Naruto kicks his ass and gives him a speech about how your bloodline doesn't matter, and through hard work and believing in yourself, you can do whatever you want and overcome your circumstances... so, yeah, it's like Neji died in some act of defeated fatalism. In the end he did/became exactly the thing that made him hate Hinata in the first place. And then, of course, Naruto is part Uzimaki part Namikaze and is exponentially better than most all of his peers, so I guess in the end that speech really meant nothing.

    If you think 3 people jumping in front of Naruto would look silly, removing either Neji or Hinata would give us a good moment, either way.
    If Hinata stays, Hiashi would be choosing the daughter he once diswon and though of as a faliure. He could make a comment on how much she looks like her mother.
    If Neji stays, it is like what you said. Neji's life mattered to Hiashi, because he is his nephew, the son of his twin.

      I think the idea is cool actually. Kinda pissed Boruto doesn't have an uncle.. but I do understand why.. because Neji's character arc was essentially over at that point, the chunin exams flipped his Perception upside down, then he went out like his father.. Makes sense, then they also did the really cool "Neji Free Bird Style: 9 Tails Cloak Free Bird Jutsu" thing. Which they still could've done! If they did swap out Neji and Hiashi out, then they should also swap the scene where Hiashi fights Neji's Dad? Maybe? Or, they should've extended and made that scene more impactful and memorable, as well as have Neji idk.. be within 50 miles of his REANIMATED FATHER. 😂 That would've been better, and they could've built up to it for Hiashi saving them. Instead though they would've had Hinata jump in front, Neji tried but failed to air palm it, then Hiashi saw this and jumped in the way and tried to rotate or air palm and die. Any ONE OF THEM should've had at least 1 of the 3 try to block it and it goes through.. whether the scene changed or not! Would've told us hey, "they can't block this ish, someone's gonna die." Then it would've made sense. After that, either your way or the Neji route would've worked better imo! Now, you do need to remember now, in the present, this would eliminate their "doting Grandpa" from Boruto. Which I'm totally fine w/ in favor of the Strict, but sweet uncle Neji. I think they also killed Neji because Boruto's name makes much more sense then. Neji means "Screw" in Japanese, and Boruto means "Bolt" as a nod to his late Uncle Neji. So, we do have to look at those few details objectively. Neji's character arc comes full circle, (full screw in this case.), Boruto's name would maybe be something else, 🤔 and they wouldn't have their Grandfather.. I personally wouldn't care much. They could still name him Boruto, and they'd have an Uncle Neji instead of Grandpa Hiashi. That being said, I think Neji should've sacrificed himself to save Boruto or Himawari early-ish in Boruto.. That would've helped shift the tone of the show from ''Boruto playing games", to a more serious note. Maybe, Neji goes into the past w/ them and sacrifices himself to Urashiki, or he jumps in front of Hima during the Delta fight, or he sacrifices himself to save the kids when Jigen first arrives. This would've given Jigen a much more sinister vibe I think... What do you think? 🤔🤔🤔

    • @IamChristopherBones
      @IamChristopherBones Před 2 měsíci +1

      EITHER WAY, this moment of Neji passing served to make the war more serious and bring Hinata and Naruto closer. OR would've been used to bring some serious "villain vibes to Kara". Which, felt rushed ASF. Jigen should've been built up more imo, and there should've been less filler happy go lucky arcs in Boruto Part 1. Akatsuki was built up for like triple the time as Kara.

    This video made me think of a hot take I don't think I've ever heard before so I'll drop it here in case a part 2 comes along:
    Hinata should've actually died trying to fight Pain and stayed dead.
    (Gonna ignore all the stuff with the Byakugan and its spin-off dojutsu that came from The Last since this would likely take the design of the Otsutsukis in a different direction)
    Up until this point in the story, Hinata serves basically the opposite purpose to Sakura. While Sakura's character is meant to be our point of reference for the village's opinion of Naruto (he's an obnoxious, potentially dangerous nuisance to everyone around him), Hinata's point of view of him is that of the reader's (he's a brave person with a good heart who stands up for what he believes in and for people who can't protect themselves). In universe, she is treated like royalty and kept constantly protected by her clan who are directly responsible for Neji's ideology that's set up to be the antithesis for the message Naruto as a story is trying to drive home: that your destiny is decided by the circumstances of your birth. The princess of one of Konoha's most important clans running out and ACTUALLY dying standing up to the biggest threat the village had seen in order to save the village idiot who had inspired her from day one would've been both a perfect moment that exemplifies the theme of making your own destiny (in a series that really needs more of those) as well as an incredibly poetic one where, in her death, what defined her character lives on as, from this point on in the story, the village now sees Naruto as she did: a hero who stood up for all of them to fight a seemingly unstoppable threat.
    It's after this point that she's basically written out of the story anyway until it's time to give birth to the star of a spin-off series that she also does nothing in. This could even set up a moment where Neji does something similar to protect Naruto during the 4th GSW; the self-made genius of the Hyuga clan inspired by the actions of the timid girl he looked down on as being privileged by birth, since Kishimoto was really determined to make sure he died by the end of the series, editing staff be damned.
    This also takes the story off the route towards some of its worst aspects. Blowing past some of the the common ones like "Neji dying to protect Hinata was dumb", "there are too many characters in the story that just fade into the background", and the more recent "not enough things in Naruto have lasting consequences"; something that never sat well with me was the way late-game Naruto kind of realized it hadn't actually set up the relationships that it wanted to and tried to retroactively shove these into backstory that contradicts a lot of was seemed to be established early on. Not even just the romantic ones, but Naruto and Sasuke's commitment to each other as such great friends despite how few positive interactions they have in-universe always felt forced at best and borderline unhealthy at worst. Both this and the fact that Naruto needed to end up with Hinata (and the story can't just have Naruto change his mind about the girl he liked for whatever reason) leads to one of my least favorite retcons that no one really talks about from The Last: Naruto's entire motivation throughout Shippuuden.
    By the end of part 1, Naruto and Sasuke are both loner orphans who've only spent time together by force and actually collaborate arguably only like once or twice(?) in life or death situations; so they're just kind of friends by default. It would be more of a stretch to say that they actually liked each other than it would that they hate each other but need each other to survive. There are plenty of stories that take this dynamic and turn it into some of the most iconic friendships in fiction, but Sasuke just dips out after this point and never really interacts with Naruto until the final arc. Prior to retcon information, Naruto promising Sakura that he'd bring Sasuke back serves as a small moment that perfectly encapsulates who he is as a person: even if he didn't like Sasuke and would be objectively better off if he wasn't around to steal the spotlight from him in the eyes of Sakura (character who acts as a stand-in for the village as a whole, who also saw Sasuke as a genius prodigy with a rare bloodline ability and saw Naruto as a moron), he would stop at nothing to bring him back without a second thought because of how important he was to her (+the village) and, when he does bring him back, he's gonna take that spotlight fair and square.
    By the end of the series, Naruto was stripped of almost everything that would've made most of his accomplishments unachievable by just anyone who was born under the same circumstances with the exception of one thing, who he is as a person (specifically, his selfless and empathetic nature despite how cruel the shinobi world is). Having The Last retcon Naruto's motivation to have just been that he was actually THAT good of friends with Sasuke and wanted to bring him back for purely his own reasons and at one point gaslit himself into pretending he ever liked Sakura so he could use her as a measuring stick for their very friendly always friendly the whole time friends' rivalry kinda takes away a lot from what from what made Naruto such a compelling character when the story is reread with this information in mind. This and the way that Naruto, Mr. Talk-no-jutsu who can relate to and understand even the worst of the ninja world, needed to be put under a genjutsu to explain to him that Hinata loved him the whole time because Kishimoto needed to regress their relationship to justify why Naruto had never followed up on her literally saying "I love you, Naruto" after jumping in front of an opponent who would 100% kill her just to buy him some time was some of the worst material to come out of that movie.
    Long post but kinda how it goes with a hot take that involves big changes for a character that a lot of people like (myself included)

    • @lovelypanda8676
      @lovelypanda8676 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I don't think Hinata should've died to get the point across, that she can make her own desicions, and stand up for the outcast despite being the princess. Her putting her life at risk the way she did was more than enough, since she couldn't stand a chance against Pain, so she was basically prepared to die. What really diminished that whole character moment is that her confession was just ignored, when it would've been the perfect foundation to build their relationship on. But no, Kishi had to retcon it their romance when Shueisha told him they need an offspring.
      This kinda sums up my problem with Kishimoto as a writer. He's really good at writing certain themes such as politics, war, and moral debates, but then he also sucks at writing a lot of other themes but still decides to jampack the story with them. Romance being one of them.

The whole show theres a bunch of ninja that more or less exist either to do missions for villagers or act as like the military defense for the people..... but we never see the people. It kinda just makes everything feel pointless.
    Remember when team 7 protected the bridge builder and lived with his family for a week? It actually felt wholesome and like the universe made sense. Then when Naruto was congratulated by the village when he defeated pain? That was amazing. Why are these like the only two cannon events that don't only involve ninja? I thought sasuke destroyed the hideout when he busted out his susano'o with his EMS

    • @IamChristopherBones
      @IamChristopherBones Před 2 měsíci

      Well, it didn't really show that it was for sure that hideout, did it..? I'm genuinely asking. I don't remember the panel on this, I do remember the anime, and it didn't really show the eyes in the background and etc. so idk? I think this spot and all those eyes should've been used though at some point! Like in literally any Boruto arc. Like maybe all of Kara has a Sharingan, or all of the 7 ninja swordsman remakes, or something. Really, a new clique of people could've been made. They could've made shin uchihas "revived Akatsuki" actually have buku people with different eyes, but not his weird ass clones. 😂

    • @gentletal5101
      @gentletal5101 Před 2 měsíci

      @IamChristopherBones it does. Obito had sasuke on a table, and in the background were hundreds of sharingan in containers. Sasuke broke out with his susano'o after hia recovery

    • @IamChristopherBones
      @IamChristopherBones Před 2 měsíci

      @@gentletal5101 Damnn! It does make perfect sense for him to destroy the eyes too... I was just commenting on the person's comment who stated the Neji theory. I was saying IF they swapped Neji and Hiashi, someone should've tried to block the wood, failed and then Hiashi or Neji jump in front. BUT, if this happened then use Neji dying in Boruto to protect Himawari or Boruto via the Delta or ideally the Jigen arriving in the leaf fights.. So then it would've gave Boruto a more serious tone and built up some "villain vibes" for Jigen. Now, I STRONGLY believe if they'd done that, and saved the Sharingan from that cave, then they could've really strengthened and lengthened the "Akatsuki revival Shin Uchiha Arc", because he could actually had a gang of NEW VILLIANS w/ the sharingan(at least one), w/ Shin being the leader(and BEEF HIM UP cause he got SMACKALAACKKKED), and this arc could've been WAYY longer. Then it would've built Boruto up earlier, and then Neji's passing via Jigen, would've gave a serious tone to Jigen and Kara. Just food for thought. Idk.. I felt most of the Boruto VILLIANS weren't all that threatening and finished too quickly, except for Kara. (But they were finished too quickly imo)

    that second take, the s tier one, what if black zetsu had been with danzo, teaching him how to use others eyes, until obito stumbled into madaras lap, and the loss of black zetsu made danzo start to go mad for power, further developing his character and arc. this might be my new head cannon.

    I got 3:
    Character wise: Kiba was cool af and needed to be more prominent throughout the story.
    Franchise wise: Part 1 is so much cooler than Shippuden in terms of vibes, mystery, tone and all around brutality/realism of the world at hand.
    Story wise: The mysteries left undiscovered are part of the mystique of the story and the world. Personally, I think that explaining so much in detail kind of tarnished the "cool" factor of the story, so fully fleshing out organizations like the Akatsuki and other villages like the Cloud/Mist kinda make the world feel way too small, when somethings should have been left unsaid and subtle.

    Obito should have gotten a light novel with his internal monologue. The fanbase has to speculate so much about his motives, abilities and what pushed his ideology and he’s arguably the most important person in the show outside the main cast. It’s honestly surprising we don’t know anything about his late teens through 20s

    Temari is still an active shinobi though or at the very least the Boruto anime definitely has had her go on missions several times. Even the Mirai light novel has her training Mirai and during the chunin exams she trained Ino Shika Cho and helped protect the stadium during the attack. IDK why people think she is only a housewife.
    Really as far as Temari goes I just want to see her in the Boruto manga, the fact that she isn't contacted when Shikadai had the "bomb" around his neck is criminal

But having this all important puppet master just show up after everything that had happened with NO prior hints to his existence is weird as hell and seems like another case of retconning

    I think Temari still going out on missions is a S tier personally. Shimamura could also still be an advisor and have Shikadai sit alongside him as both a support and to get experience in what it's like in a modern world. He could be lazy and not go along with his dad or have side plots and conversations surrounding resenting not having family home as often as the other kids. This could be something that Baruto and even Naruto bonds with him on.

    • @BlazenBeard
      @BlazenBeard Před 2 měsíci

      As an advisor and especially if he spends his time primarily in the village, it would be incredibly unlikely that Shikadai would become an orphan.

    Said this on the community post, will say it again:
    Tenten and Kankuro should have ended up together. They are both Ninja Tool masters, both end up alone in Boruto, Kankuro would need someone to go to to keep his puppets stocked up on explosives, senbon, and poison bombs, and Tenten would want someone to not only frequent her shop but also to like. Talk to, about weapons and stuff.
