If you prefer that your golf instructors stick to sports, steer clear of Sean Foley. The longtime mentor to Tiger Woods and Justin Rose is an inveterate seeker, drawn as much to the neuroscience behind how we learn as the ideal position at the top of the backswing. Foley sits down with host Tom Coyne for a wide-ranging discussion on performance and purpose, fear and success, perspective and, yes, even love. If all that leaves you asking, "Why?"-to Foley, that's the whole point.

My expectation before listening and watching this interview was totally different to its outcome. I expected more technical theory and discussion and my take away was so much more. The discussions about life, people and everyday thought was so much more rewarding. Its given me and I hope others a path to begin a journey within ones self to question, process and guide my thought process. This was an outstanding interview. I have so much more appreciation for Sean Foley.

He reinforces the tried and true mantra of golf...it's a journey, not a destination. At the top level of competition, tour golfers, you always seem to see the same players winning or right behind the winners. Every card carrying tour pro has mad golf skills, they can flat out play. So what is it that separates the best from all the rest? It's the mental approach, they BELIEVE in themselves. This is a trait that can benefit any golfer in the world. If you can tap into that spiritual/mental aspect of the game and let the bad shots and garbage go, you will find yourself appreciating golf more. Throw in some dedicated effort at practicing the short game, and you'll do what many golfers don't, improve. The only competition you have on the course is you.

I could listen to Sean talk all day long. Such a brilliant mind.

I love Sean Foley. Sure, he is a tad out there for some, but he is interesting. He knows the golf swing too. Just doesn’t seem to want to talk about it! Thanks for the interview Tom!

Great interview Tom, it's a skill in letting the other person speak and not cut them off. When I listen to Sean I learn about history, life skills, and what it takes to be a better golfer without the usual do this, don't do that.

Was struck most by his honesty and willingness to think for himself. Asking 'why' you have to pass a bunch of junk courses for which you have zero interest is a valid and thoughtful point. STEM majors across the pond aren't tortured in such a manner. *Love* knowing his thoughts on the importance of the positions of the wrists and right elbow and how one might expect to have to work ten years towards mastery of same. Love the insights about sacrifice (trade-offs) and questioning one's changing "why's" over the decades. Shall be taking my wiffle balls to the bunker for some full iron swings, possibly off sidehill, downhill lies. The 15 year old son stuff is hilarious. Has said son mentioned that he didn't ask to be born? 🙂

His discussion about how you react to things is something I struggle with. But he’s right

SO GOOD. Tremendous perspective and lessons learned/imparted. Resonated for me the tie between Stoicism and Golf.

I’ve come to realize he is one of the biggest grifters in the pro coaching circuit. He gives 15 seconds of actually valuable information for every 15 minutes he talks. And all of that 15 seconds is common knowledge accessible by visiting your local municipal club pro. This guy would milk you for $5000 in lessons, whereas you could get the same results from a local pro for $100.

This guy is really full of him self. He went from a Suppose of golf expert to now a brain expert. Whats next, a rocket scientist?
