Welcome to Haddington, the county town of East Lothian!

Just 20 miles from Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, and often known as ‘the hidden toun’ because of the way it sits in its rural environment, Haddington is a beautiful market town, rich in history and with many attractions. Whether you’re a visitor or a local, we’d be delighted if you’d like to find out more about our town on this website.
The Royal Burgh of Haddington is a town in East Lothian, Scotland. It is the main administrative, cultural and geographical centre for East Lothian, which as a result of late-nineteenth century Scottish local government reforms took the form of the county of Haddingtonshire for the period from 1889 to 1921
Haddington lies about 17 miles (27 kilometres) east of Edinburgh. The name Haddington is Anglo-Saxon, dating from the sixth or seventh century AD when the area was incorporated into the kingdom of Bernicia. ... In the middle of the town is the Haddington Town House, completed in 1745 based on a plan by William Adam.
Haddington is a genteel, orderly town set amongst agricultural country in East Lothian. The burgh is situated snugly under the Garleton Hills on the banks of a long lazy s-bend of the River Tyne. Agriculture has long been the basis for Haddington's prosperity.
We take the Gimbal Walk TV cameras for a wander through the streets of Haddington to find out what this Scottish town is really like

That was a nice stroll round my old home town
Lovely town - can't wait to go back there
I live in Haddington and love it here! You should do a film devoted to St Mary's Kirk. It is one of the most interesting buildings, not only in Haddington, but in the whole of Scotland!!
Never had any reason to visit before but I'm glad to see around with you today.
Thank you
Another great & fantastic video of HADDINGTON SCOTLAND | a walk through Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Thanks Michael
Very interesting. Haddington has more listed buildings than any other Scottish town. By the way Willie Wood was born in Gifford just a few miles away which is a beautiful village.
i was born in haddington in the vert memorial hospital moved to cumbria 47 yrs ago enjoyed your video
Love your videos again. Looksike a very quiet residential city and with no much fun going on.
It is!
Never heard of Haddington lovely place thanks for showing it : )
My pleasure 😊
It's great watching your videos of places near where I live. It reminds me that they are lovely places. The combination of beautiful video, subtle music, ambient noise and your comments make them very entertaining as well as being informative.
Thank you!
It’s tricky at the moment as everywhere is so quiet and the weather is terrible but I will keep going and keep trying!
We've been visiting Haddington for a few years now and have finally moved there. We love the town!
Many thanks for another great video.lts look like I'm taking a walk with you.Have a nice day and U R the best !!...👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
I just love your comments on each walk!
Thank you ❤️❤️
Very clean😁😁🙏
Another great video I found. Really enjoying these all places I've been so it's nice to be updated on them. Thank you.👍💞
You should try Montrose lovely walks there and side streets with lots of history will look forward to that if you ever get the chance.👍
First I'd heard of Haddington. One part of my family is Scots border, and the other Northern Ireland, and where I never visited Ireland, I've felt most comfortable and "at home" in the north of England.
Thanks again for a great walk. I love the history. I remember standing at the base of the Roman column in York, and touching it, thinking of the Roman soldiers who made it, and also touched it so long ago.
Oh yes - York is so wonderful isn’t it!
Hey mate great walk and vlog thanku looks a lovely place to visit 💯😊
Thanks Andy!
This is my home town, born and breed here. It's a lovely town 😊
Great video, thanks. Xx
Thank you!
I will be back in summer to film a more indepth one!
Visited the Tesco store monthly for a few years as a rep on the way to an Asda store in Dunbar...although its in East Lothian it has the feel of a Borders town.
So true
Of course it was cold - it was Scotland in January! Haddington is the County Town of East Lothian and is very busy on weekdays. A shame you did not get round the the huge church of St Mary's.
I'll be doing that in summer when I return Keith for sure!
@@GimbalWalkTV I look forward to it.
Thank you for sharing, my ancestors are from Haddington, it was so lovely to see where they came from
Ah awesome - Thank you Karen!
Loving your videos, thankyou. Providing much motivation to move there in the next few years from Australia.East Lothian and Scottish Borders are where we are looking.
The plaque at the top of the High Street recognises the rejuvenation of the Town centre in the 50s, or was it the 60s. The water fountain in Court street has Samson on top of it - it’s called the Brown fountain, originally a drinking water fountain.
Beautiful video! Love Haddington.
Thank you!
Thanks for the walk around. I have Haddington DNA and visited there some time ago. It is indeed a lovely town. The building you pointed out as being on the site of King William's palace is the Haddington Court House, designed by William Burn and built by my G_G_G-grandfather. He was a Master Mason and built a number of other grand buildings in Haddington and around East Lothian.
Loved this walk and the subtle music in the background keep on walking 👍🚶🏻
Thank you! ❤️
Stopped in Haddington many times on journeys south on the A1. It’s a lovely unspoilt town. I’d never noticed the goats before though!! Enjoyed the walk!
Thank you!
nice movie enjoyed watching very much. Its place i have visited so i really appreciated the movie
Thank you
Great Wall, Friends live there, nice Town.
The plaque that is high up on the wall of Carlyle house is probably related to Thomas Carlyle and / or his wife
What a lovely town. A hidden gem of sorts. I loved everything about it, except for the wheelie bins. I felt there were too many of them.
i live there so cool, i live so close to the green
All three Calder brothers who played rugby for Scotland come from Haddington - and me as well!
Born in Haddington,it has changed alot in the last 30 years.
I moved to Haddington three years ago. Lovely little town. Shame you didn’t go down Sidegate to St Mary’s Church and back along the river to the High Street but maybe another time 😉. Then you could sample to “to die for” cakes at Falko’s 😋
Definitely - Am heading back in summer to do a more summery walk there!
@@GimbalWalkTV excellent
Thanks for another great video of work with covid now so will not be playing catch up keep on walking
Oh no - you have Covid?
@@GimbalWalkTV Started today as the family just got over it
We used to pass through here and stop off for a browse, not to sure what it's like now but at the time it was a right bustling town with quite a bit of interesting history attached to it.
I think (as with everywhere currently) it would look way better in the sunshine of summer.
nothing like that now
@@daviddog2722 so sad to hear that David, will pop in next time I'm down that way.
A lovely quiet little back water village, country yokeldum at its very best
Aye a pair of wellies and a wax jacket, and you are a Haddingtononian for sure, its like stepping back in time to a real hick town where the worst thing that has ever happened there is that somebody forgot to pick up their dog poo, and the yokels tried to lynch them, it is called the Haddington dog poo wars., front page news every week in the Courier.
@daviddog2722 is that what's going on there now?
I feel like wondering in an old period. Each building is each jewel.
I used to live there my it’s changed
I got wed in that church
❤️
👍👍
I used to have accounts with this ont the bank of Scotland this other one the royal bank of scotland
👏👏👏👏🤩
❤️❤️❤️
Yes, of course it is quiet because it is Sunday! If you checked any of the shops' opening hours you would have realised that. And not sure what you have against cheese shops? Walked right past it.
Does obody still cane pots at yuks 🤔 does Boab and Elaine still do the bowl haircuts for £1.80 🤔 what about Doddy Newman is he still doing the plough up Lennox road 🤔 himin lowmin back min side min 🤔 I mind the station small cells 😒 you can’t knock the place if you don’t have depression but want depression move there 🤔 the post office building (mind blown) 🤯
You forgot to film St mary's church!!
I'm back in the summer to film a more indepth one Greg - will definitely include that!
Its a Sunday and most of the shops are shut, thats why theres noone about!
Yes fair point 🤣 I'm looking forward to going back in summer for a more indepth look around (midweek ideally!)
@@GimbalWalkTV Last Saturday morning of the month is Farmers Market, thats when you need to be here.
All the beasts are in haddy youtube

Dislike Th Gimbal TV dog at the top of the screen. Dislike the big writing on the screen . Good vid otherwise and thank you
