Hi, my name is Emi. I'm born in raise in small town just outside Quebec City, this is where my lovely accent comes from. My #vanlife story starts in September 2018. After a long-term relationship that I was trying for more than a year to rebuild, I decided it was time to end this toxic relationship once for all. This is where I decided to move away from this man that I was still in love with. I put all my belongings inside my SUV (GMC Jimmy) and moved six hours from where I was living. I didn’t know where I would sleep, didn’t know where I would work, but I knew I needed to make a drastic move. At that time, I told myself I would only sleep in my car for a month while looking for a place to rent. What I didn’t know is that one month became another month and another month. In the end, I end up sleeping in my car for a full year. Even if people consider this the lowest time of my life, this experience was the best thing I couldn’t have done with my life. I took that year to focus on myself, decide what I wanted, and most importantly, what I didn’t want. That year made me also realize that for so long, I was chasing the wrong dreams. I was chasing what society wanted me to be: to have a big house, a steady job, kids, get married… None of those dreams was making me happy. In September 2019, while I was actively looking for a van, I received a phone call that someone had found my cat (Kelly). After trying for hours with no success to communicate with my ex-boyfriend (who was taking care of her), I decided to drive the six hours to go pick her up. Without going into too much detail, it turns out he wasn’t able to take care of her anymore. So I brought her in a cat kennel for a couple of days until I found a van we both could live in. I put all the savings that I had accumulated while living in my car and bought my van (a 2011 Ford Econoline that I end up adding a hightop) In the beginning, It wasn’t so glamour. My cat and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor of the van. We both had to adjust. Now, my cat loves this lifestyle as much as I do; she looks at the window while I’m driving, and she loves exploring new places. Since then, my cat Kelly and I have been living full-time in my self convert van.

The good thing, several doors and windows for fresh air and exiting if one suffers from claustrophobia . Bob with Cheap RV Living suggests to people the same comparison for space if wanting or needing to live in a vehicle, take everything you own and put it in one small space like your bathroom, if it doesn't all fit, reassess what is most important and see if you can handle living like that. It's bigger then my bathroom which is only 4m2 (43sq ft).
Does that 10 ft long include front of van. Your space always looks bigger,, maybe because you don't have clutter. Everything has a place and no top cabinets. Looks like a happy, cozy little home. Be safe, enjoy every moment.😊

My daughter turns 18 this week and my husband and I getting divorced, I’m gonna start van life, I have been dreaming about my own tiny space and alone time to find myself after a marriage of emotional abuse/ financial abuse

Nice to get things cleaned up, especially before the crazy cold snap and snow storms. Nice to see kitty enjoying her time outside and the brushing, Kelly is so beautiful. Keep on doing you, , your creativity, living and your van lifestyle for as long as you like too or it no longer gives you joy, or becomes nothing but 24/7, or becomes joyless living. I love how you find creativity, peace and joy no matter where you are, or what you are doing. That is the good life you are living.
BC is beautiful no doubt, I lived there for two and a half years. I found almost two months without the sun was killing me. I am a prairie girl , seeing the sun almost everyday was for me even if it snowed five months out of the years. I love small spaces and I so enjoy your videos.

It doesn’t matter how small you live in as long as you’re happy and comfortable whatever you’re doing that’s fine. some people they live in a big house but they only can stay there for what sleeping and go back to work. I lived in my walk in closet and my large bedroom was my living room..my laundry room was my kitchenette.had my bathroom and garage still but did this while I rented out the rest of house 😅.. finally have all my house back and ready to rent a smaller part of it again but I can't live too too small but would for awhile

I love your spirit, person, videography, and Kelley too. The title was quite a draw especially as I plan to be fulltime in a smaller van someday. I love seeing all the realities. Some have bigger closets, LOL. But not as free in life and maybe not as alive in all the daily moments of life.

Only one of my cats love to be brushed and it’s just as well as she is long haired. Gorgeous scenery again. I do worry that the eagles will get Kelly but I know you keep an eye out. Talking of bathrooms you don’t seem to have one, I know you use a sports centre sometimes but every day things must be difficult.

Hello Emi and Kelly -- what lovely scenery! I agree that getting you home back in order really makes you feel better. With a tiny home, every dirty inch just seems so much bigger than it really is. I am super pleased you found your sd card case. I figured it couldn't have gone that far but even in a small space something dark colored and slippery like a video card case can just turn sideways and vanish.. Emi, hardware stores carry small, decorative, but strong chains, for holding doors on small cabinets such as you have on your side doors. I use those chains to support the stove and sink installed outside of my camper.

I've been in my 2021 Chevy Express 2500 van since May of 2022. The challenges have been overwhelming at times, but I'm hanging with it. 0 degree weather is approaching in a couple of days... it ought to be interesting.
