Hi Adam and Madalyn, the best spots in Albuquerque for home made from scratch are - El Modelo, their tamales and carne adovada are second to none. Also, Pereas , a small mom and pop place open for breakfast and lung! Go for Pereas rustic red chile and house made tortilla- their beef/bean combo burrito is one of the best! Last, Berelas Coffee House...And BTW, relleno is pronounced "ree yen oh" :) ...You can also order fresh red and green chile to ship to your home. I highly recommend Sichler Farms for ordering! Luna Burger for green chile burgers...
Thanks for a great video on some of our great food.

Born and raised in NM, moved to Yuma AZ about 35yrs ago and the one thing we lamented the most was the food, they have lots of Mexican food here in Yuma but I hate to say it but it can't hold a candle to NM cuisine.... And you can attribute that to one main thing.....New Mexico grown green chili, so many dishes are prepared with either green or red NM chili and it makes all the difference in the world!!!

Hola! From Santa Fe, New Mexico! I'm so happy you enjoyed our food! Great choice on Market Steer! I LOVE their food. Downtown and the plaza are my favorite places to go. When I was a teenager, I would go to this place called the Cross of the Martyrs, past the plaza. So peaceful during sunset. It has such a breathtaking view of downtown. I recommend going there next time you come to Santa Fe. ❤️❤️

Albq --Padilla's Mexican Cafe: the quelites and stuffed sopapillas are very good. Cecilia's Cafe: the tamales, capirotada, natillas, and red sauce are incredible. The restaurant at the Pueblo Cultural Center: the chackewe con huevos, which is blue corn mush topped with carne adovada and an egg, was very good. Rumor has it that is may no longer be on the menu. :( Church Street cafe in Old Town: the green chile chicken stew and sopapillas are good.
Los Lunas and Belen -- Teofilos: the calabacitas stuffed sopilla are good. Petes's Cafe: the carne adovada burrito with calabacitas is yummy.
Gallup -- Don Diego's Cafe: the stuffed sopillas and the sheepherder's special are nice. Dine Grill: the lamb and steam corn, and lamb and dumpling stews are good. This place is in a meat market on the far south side of town. The 9th St Flea Market: hunt up some pueblo bread, mutton sandwiches and kneeldown bread.
Farmington -- Ashkii's Navajo Grill: the grandma's boy special and the stews are very good.
San Antonio -- Owl Bar and Cafe: the green chile cheese burger is great.
Taos Pueblo -- Tiwa Kitchen: the blue cornmeal crusted trout is very good.
Roswell -- Martin's Capital Cafe: the green sauce is fantastic. I could drink it with a straw, lol. La Escondida Cafe: the breakfast burritos are really good. Get them Christmas.

@@AdamandMadalyn There is a difference. Northern NM tends to use red chile - esp from Chimayo. Also, black beans instead of pinto beans are the preference in Santa Fe. Blue corn tortilla is also preferred over yellow or white corn. And there are the Pueblo areas. When in Albuquerque again, try the Indian Cultural Center for a different kick!

Hi, You did hit a variety of food in NM. It was fun watching you get so excited about all the Chile, I guess we take it for granted. But The true NM food was at Cocina Azul. The others were Mexican, and Navajo tacos are not really tacos. lol. Kinda hard to explain differences but when you grow up here you just know. Anyways, We do have food from all cultures here and you hit many good ones. For true NM food, try Durans, (torpedo) Pereas, (green!) Garcias (red!) and El Pinto for the beautiful patio and scenery.

Each year when I can, I return home for the Green Chile harvest. 300 lbs. of XXXHot Hatch, roasted and then dehydrated on the family ranch, when dried about 100 lbs. That way when I return to California, I have my daily dose.
Green Chile Stew, Sopapillas, both dessert and stuffed with beans, rice and meat, I'll take them either way. A little aside about Sopapillas, as many of the first Spanish settlers in New Mexico were descendants of Sephardic Jews from Spain, it is a Jewish dessert in Spain and Greece called Bumuellos. While the traditional Mexican Chile Relleno is easy to find in New Mexico our version, usually only found at home is a chuck roast boiled with spices, and after it's cooked put through a meat grinder mixed with copped green chiles, and some egg. They are rolled into football shaped balls (albondigas) about the size of a golf ball. Dredged in flower then dunked in the same egg batter Mexican Rellenos are dipped in and deep fried. Served hot or cold, they are very New Mexican.
Last but not least, Bizcochitos, an Anise flavored cookie which is the official State Cookie of New Mexico

As someone who lives in New Mexico I was a little disappointed because there are far better places in Albuquerque and Santa Fe for wayyy cheap too.

    It’s not “Relenyo”. It’s pronounced Rayeno. 2 “L”s make a “Y” sound.

These are restaurants in New Mexico, and New Mexico cuisine pulls from a variety of different backgrounds.

There is nothing like new mexico food. Its just cooked so very different than classic mexican cusine. Some of the small cafe's along the highways have excellent food. Being born and raised in albuquerque We still stuff many of these foods in a sopappilla. Most that come from around the US dont realise a new mexico enchalada is flat. kinda messes with there minds. but once they try them there hooked

Please don't call it sauce it's Chile been living here my whole life and the one thing New Mexicans find disrespectful is comparing our Chile to that other crap

The elected officials not governing our city is creating chaos for the people visiting and people living in Santa Fe. The loud cars that take over our city day and night and the speeding cars and running red lights is an embarrassment to this city and the tax payers. There is no police presence to control any of this. In short, Santa Fe is going in the wrong direction. The officials are more interested with making the rail and art district another Disney park and not fixing problems at hand. I moved to Santa Fe over 14 years ago and love it, but the last few years of increased noise from the modified car mufflers have taken over the sound scape and is causing noise pollution that's unacceptable for most cities. My family and friends will no longer visit due to lack of sleep either in hotel rooms or at my place due to the noise. There are laws in place to curb the illegal cars but it's not being enforced. This is unfair and I don't know to approach it. I have contacted the governor's office and never received a reply, same with the mayor. Do our elected officials ever step outside to see what's going on in this city? This has been going on for a long time and there's been more than ample time to fix this.

In the intro that was Mexican food not New Mexican food. Trust me on this I'm a descendant from the first colonizers that came from Spain. Many of whom were Sephardic Jews fleeing the inquisition. Loved your video will subscribe.
