  • On Friday 29 November 2013, a police helicopter circling over Glasgow fell out of the sky and onto one of the city's oldest pubs, killing at least nine. As the emergency services continue to recover the dead from the scene and the injured receive hospital care, reporter Samantha Poling tells the story of a tragedy that has both devastated and united a nation. First broadcast on BBC One Scotland at 22:40 on Monday 2 December 2013, this programme includes exclusive interviews with those affected and goes behind the scenes in what was an extraordinary 72 hours in Glasgow.

Watching this for the first time since it happened back in 2013. Once again I’m acutely aware of how warm and kind and funny my fellow Scots are. I’m from the NW highlands and lived in Glasgow for years and the fold down there are a different breed….they’ll do anything to help folk in need and they’ll do it with humour and warmth. I’m always proud to be Scottish but I was especially proud during this awful tragedy.

That's the rule whether you scottish or not. I wasn't there when it happened, but I lived in Glasgow and at the time I was with a friend who was Glasgowein and we both felt the pain even though physically we couldn't help. Brave souls who did.

I found it very moving, that a muslim gentlemen, who was inside the church and a sikh gentleman, who was outside the church, were both paying their respects, thus proving that, with truly decent people, who take their beliefs seriously, differences in religion, do not matter, when it really comes down to it. xx

this must of been a case of running out of petrol because this kind of helicopter has two engines which basically means if one engine alone fails it can safely operate on the last engine

The only other aircraft crash that shook Scotland was Lockerbie

Cover up. I knew it would be a case of blame the dead. Just like Mull of Kintrye helicopter crash. Blame the dead.

He was at fault though, the pilot ignored the fuel pumps warning message at least 50-70 times. I've only just started to watching the doc so my info could be wrong I'll edit my response if needs be.

@Daood Zafar I agree the pilot should have been able find a clearing or deploy the floats and autorotate to a safe landing on the River.

Danny Stewart. It’s obviously an establishment cover up. Even the Masonic pigs are prepared to eat their own.

I'm sure I saw somewhere that it was due to a fuel indicator failure

Does anyone remember Katie Hopkins making disgusting comments about this? I do. Vile person should’ve been dragged to each of the families of the victims and the emergency workers and nurses/doctors who had to deal with this. Even for her it was pretty low.
