This is probably the smartest eraser idea I've ever seen because it encourages you to use it, unlike those erasers that are shaped like animals or other characters where you are torn between ruining the design if you use the eraser or wasting the eraser by protecting the design.
I remember getting a laptop-shaped eraser from my elementary school's book fair, that thing got folded and unfolded so many times and used zero times. It wasn't an eraser at that point, it was just a fidget toy.

My mom visited me in Japan this year. I talked her into buying a bunch of these exact erasers for souvenirs because i thought they were fun and cute. I didn't realize they turn into fuji-san. That's some great info to have. I've already shared it with mom.
from an artist i love these rubber, yes theyre cute but even more importantly they are very good while not damaging the paper. this rubber along with the muji black rubbers are top rubbers for artists!

I remember a video saying that while the G2 and other average consumer-level products are their lifeblood, what they do for their Iroshizuku inks and Namiki pens is the company’s heart.
I recently bought a Kokuyo 0.5 mm ballpoint pen from my school store and I use it pretty much exclusively for writing in the Campus notebooks I have. And when I tell you, it writes so smooth???? And it has such a nice grip 😭
You can add adhesive from basically any tape roll to eraser shavings and knead then together to make your own kneaded eraser. Terrible erasers will be more difficult but soft ones blend like a dream
Sparse resources, pride complex, and isolating geography meant they got really good at making the few pieces of usable land and material as fabulous as possible. Historically Japan's greatest exports have been not raw material, but in design and skilled labor. China had the gunpowder but it was Japanese craftsmen who made the musket usable. Those OG Japanese muskets were gorgeous too.
Back in the 1970's, when I was in school, I had a classmate whose father often went to Japan for work, and he used to bring her back these tiny stationery items, like colour pencils, erasers, etc. They were all usable and so cute!

Why is Japanese stationary so cool? I love it. They really put thought and technology in it. I have a Japanese mechanical pencil with a mechanism that makes it nearly impossible to break the lead.
Japan makes the cutest erasers. I have a set of mini kokeshi dolls that are erasers. I just use them as decorations though. They’re too cute to use as intended.

I grew up in Japan in the mid -70s, when the erasers were so amazing they became a favourite memory. And the smells...the aromas and fragrances...so delightful. No one does whimsical stationery like Japan.
Tip for pencil art - hard erases(plastic) is better then soft (rubber) the integrity is better and you can cut it to make a sharp edge for precision, also the soft kind tend to wear out faster

The eraser shavings remind me of these little pouches of gum that I used to buy back in the day. The gum was shavings that looked just like the eraser shavings because I think it was supposed to be the kid friendly version of chewing tobacco that you'd see baseball players chewing.
