    Just got P 1931 model for unbelievable price. I think the previous owner had no idea what she had:) And it’s also in mint condition with the carrying case. Just needs a new ribbon. I am over the moon, couldn’t believe my luck when she took it out of the box, it looked like it just came out of the factory 🤩 (apart from normal dust and ink dirty slugs of course. I love it, can’t wait for the new ribbon so I can start using it.

    Hello,
    I discovered your videos this past weekend while trying to get a Royal HH running. They are both incredibly informative and entertaining (your videos, not the HH so much. I've almost got it working except the keys on the extreme left won't advance the carriage. I might wind up using it to anchor an ocean liner or for target practice, just kidding). I know the typewriter in this video sold on ebay recently and I would like to know when you will have other typewriters available. I am currently located west of you in Seymour, TX so the hazards of shipping should be minimal (I hope). Cheers, Steve

      Steve Conquest Hi there! I should be having a fairly steady stream of them for sale over the next few months...and if you're in Seymour we could probably just meet up!

      Hi Charlie,
      You were absolutely correct about shipping typewriters through the mail without first stabilising the carriage. I just received a 1947 royal quiet deluxe and I cleaned it following your instructions and everything was working fine until I noticed every 11th letter would skip a space. I examined the typewriter and there is a tooth missing from a gear underneath the machine. Since I am in Seymour, TX permanently (City Manager) do you know who I could send this to and get the bloody thing fixed? My 1946 model works great, but then again, it wasn't shipped to me. Help, Steve

    @KurisuYamato Před 6 lety

    Talking about Royal's and escapements, that's how what should have been a prized QDL wound up being a regret machine for me. In trying to fix the issue (sounding identical to the one you describe this machine probably having had happen in its past) that escapement got obliterated!
    Granted given the age differences the machines probably have decently different enough internals, but still... for conversation sake it makes ya think.

    Do you know if the Ollivetti Ivrea is any good? I don't have a date for it, but it looks to be around 1950/60. I've had my eye on it for a while, don't know whether to buy it or not though. Any thoughts?

    I just bought a khm royal the carriage wont budge . Any suggestions of what it can be? Ive watched to see if there are any hard locking mechanisms but can not figure out why it wont move.
    I did not think to check the carriage. Keys and everything seem ok. I really would like to use it.
    No one in oc ca to fix it.
    So i am going to take apart myself

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  Před 5 měsíci +2

      don’t take it apart just yet, and >definitely< don’t take the carriage off! there are several different possible causes, and none of them require carriage removal to repair. First thing to check is the margin release key, since the ‘magic margin’ system leads to people often setting both margins right next to each other; hold down the Margin Release key while you try to move the carriage, and if it moves then voila! if not, there might actually be a problem. i have a video on a similar model that will familiarize you w all the controls czcams.com/video/fZ2mqQoml74/video.htmlsi=O099yNYbmV5pGQhv and there might actually be a repair shop near you - check the list at site.xavier.edu/polt/typewriters/tw-repair.html

    Have a similar one. Is it normal that the carriage is slightly wobbly on these models despite everything else being intact and working properly? Heard this from 2 other people but I still have doubts.

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  Před rokem +1

      the carriage rails on these are made from a fairly pliable metal, and usually there is indeed a fairly significant amount of end-shake; unless it affects the print quality or page registration, then it’s not a cause for concern. it’s usually not something that i recommend anyone other than a technician attempt to address, as it requires specialized tools to properly adjust out.

    Nice video and superbe typewriter. I've got a 1934 Model "A": it's like the P but it has got tabulation.
    It's for the italian market (I'm from Italy) because it has a QZERTY keyboard. The only problem is that the hammer lever #32 for "period" and the "semicolon" is broken and the type slug is missing. Where I can find spare parts?

    Nice! The early Royal Portable's don't have a carriage lock, what's your take for securing the escapement in everyday use and travel? The margin settings are wide and can't be brought together enough to create standstill.

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  Před 6 lety

      Ken Kruschka - you should never use the carriage lock or margins for shipping, since they werent designed with that in mind. Generally you want to hold down the carriage release levers(typically with rubber bands or zip ties)to disengage the escapement, then use plastic wrap to secure the carriage from moving. Check out a few of my 'shipping tips' videos to see what i mean.

    • @TypewriterJustice
      @TypewriterJustice  Před 6 lety +1

      Ken Kruschka - sorry! I misread your question, which was for every day use and travel. Despite the lack of a carriage lock on the model P, it does just fine in it's case without one...I've never had a problem just centering it up manually then lowering the lid.

    How difficult is it to replace the platen and bottom roller on this machine? Do you have a link for wherever you purchased them from?

    • @TypewriterChicago
      @TypewriterChicago Před 6 lety +1

      Replacing the platen is easy as long as you have one to replace it with. The set screw on the left platen knob gets removed, as well as the set screw on the right end of the platen. The left knob comes off and the right knob gets pulled with the rod still attached. It lifts out of the ribbon cup with no further issues!
