I remember when this came on on NED 2 (?) Absolutely insane for the 80s. I lived in the border region of Germany/Netherlands, so I was raised on a steady diet of YOUNG ONES / KNIGHT RIDER and A-TEAM. I guess I mostly learned english by simply watching this. :D

TPB was a mockumentary, the young ones weren’t. TYO was considered a variety show by the BBC, it had musical guests, puppets, random skits, and a bunch of weird stuff. TPB was a mockumentary about 3 friends and their ups and downs as they try and execute their latest get rich quick scheme with every season ending with them going to jail and the new season starting with them being released. I don’t see any similarities really other then that the main characters are poor men that act and look different then “regular people”.

Rick then took a turn in free forming that couldn't possibly be followed in translation, so they chose to build on the 'merg', to make it sound any way logical in Dutch. I'm sure the translator knew of the Dutch word 'boemerang' though ;-)

I don't know why, but I figured 'The Comedy Strip Presents ' crew would be against animal cruelty? I guess there also the fur in the Lion, whitch and wardrobe segment. The horses, well most people treat them like their dogs, like a member of the family. Still that hard floor isn't good for their legs. I had a problem with it back in the '80s, and I don't think it would be allowed now.

A 3rd of the show is taken up by his nonsense, usually it diverts completely from the plot. He's alright in some of the 'The Comedy Strip Presents ' stuff, but they for sure should have left him there. I always watch 'Bottom', then 'filthy, rich & Catflap', then I rematch both of those, then I'll watch 'The Comedy Strip Presents ' episodes with Rik Mayall, then 'the young ones', with the remote ready to fastforward. I can't be the only one who can't stand him?
