20 years ago i watched this by chance on a nyc cable movie channel. it is an amazing movie. funny, sad, so human and inspiring. i want to watch it again very much. i believe it won academy award for best foreign film.
The author, whose book birthed this movie, is Bohumil Hrabal, a writer of immense sensitivity. His fiction is frequently called hyper-realistic. Harlequins Millions is a beautiful. beautiful work. And this movie is a great monument to this original thinker and writer. Go read his books, and enjoy this tale.
