It is about healing and accessing your higher self. It is not some escapist, blissed out experience. It can be extremely challenging. A person has to face themselves, all the darkest parts of themselves and stand, dance and sing in the light!
Your in for a very serious reality check if you just show up looking for party.

They are not crazy; until you try it you just cant understand it. Remember it is always easier to make fun of what you cant comprehend, rather than try to understand it. I do agree that in the church it is silly, but in nature with a shaman it is amazing. Actually it is DMT

@nickyjam305 Except so many people in America are claiming to have "religious reasons" to consume drugs like marjiuana. Additionally, this was legalized because a LOT of research was done on it and it has been proven that there is no negative side effect from long term use of the drink. They use it only during certain occasions and ceremonies, not on a regular basis.

Actually, ritual (mind-altering by its very nature) needs to be decoupled from religion--or the definition of religion needs to be broadened to encompass non-dogmatic, non-theistic ritual. All of us can benefit from the use of entheogens (hallucinogens); they are the ultimate in recreation (in the original sense of the word: re-creation). Entheogen use in a ritualized context is a way of connecting with others on the most profound levels & looking at life & ourselves from different perspectives.

Meu amigo.

@fgfuyfyuiuyf I did a research paper and interviewed some people who've taken it. They said it tastes a bit like stale beer mixed with cigarette ash. Usually, people throw up after taking it because of a reaction between enzymes in the drink & enzymes in the stomach.

@Sirjosh408 Yes, exactly. Both should be legal--cannabis and ayahuasca. But really, now, why is it a bad thing to have fun with a mind-altering substance? We do this legally with alcohol. Seems that the current drug prohibitions are just bigoted attempts to legislate morality.

The amount they have at a time is something which they are sort of weened onto from a young age, and therefore their bodies are fully accustomed to ingesting the liquid. There have been a lot of possible links between marijuana and permanent mental side effects and other health effects. When it comes down to health vs. religion, health will prevail. Which is why this drink has been legalized for the very small number for Santo Daime followers in Westernized nations, whereas marijuana has not.
