I was never a big fan of Slade at the time, but it cannot be denied, Noddy has an incredible voice. You could turn up to a gig with wet hair, stand at the back and by the time he got to the second verse you had a curly perm!
Their number one “Far Far Away “, was from a feature film called Flame. And in the 70s, teachers tried to get Slade banned because they encouraged bad spelling 😅😅
Hey there Squirrel! You may remember me, I'm the one who suggested 'Get down and get with it', waaaay back when, so I can't believe it hasn't made this 'top 10'!! I still think it's Noddy's finest hour!! 🤣
Slade had so many great tracks that compiling a top 10 has to miss some classics, a few that come to mind are Coz I Luv You, Everyday, How Does It Feel, The Bangin' Man and In For A Penny. Those are all from their their early 70s heyday, things went quiet for a few years as they tried to crack America but they had a bit of a comeback in the early 80s...never forget been in the warehouse at work and hearing the DJ on the radio announce with real joy "Slade have released a new song" and then the unmistakeable sound of Noddy Holder as he ripped into We'll Bring The House Down. To a lot of us Brits of a certain age Slade will always be a very special band.
I love those Slade titles. I remember when Noddy Holder was a guest panellist on Never Mind The Buzzcocks. The show’s host, Mark Lamar, said something along the lines of “Of course, Slade stopped having hits when Microsoft invented Spell Check. It’s a shame How Does It Feel didn’t make the list. I love that song. And Run Runaway. Good stuff.
I saw them play at Hammersmith Odeon in about 1979ish Great show from a great band who absolutely rocked live. No auto tune in those days just quality musician's doing their thing
Best ever Slade track? Got to be “Get Down And Get With It” - the live version from the “Slade Alive” album. As for studio recordings - “Gudbuy T’Jane” - Don Powell’s drum intro’ sets it up just right. And for an obscure Slade gem, check out the b - side of the “Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me” single. It’s called “Kill ‘Em At The Hot Club Tonight” with Jim Lea showing off his prowess on the “gypsy style” violin.
Slade were an integral part of my formative years growing up in the early to mid 70's, helped a lot by an older brother who was mad on them. This top ten list is very subjective, (like all of these types of list are), and I'm sure there's a number of other songs that could quite easily have made it over others that did. Slade went out of their way to misspell some of their track names as a way of showing how they were pronounced with a black country accent, (examples are; Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Dudley), 'Luk Wot You Dun', being a perfect example of how the title should be said rather than the, 'proper', English of, 'Look What You(ve) Done.'
Hey Squirrel, I`m a bit late watching this but I would recommend watching their film, I know it as (Slade In Flame) but it may just be called Flame. This film came out in 1975, there are several great songs in it, the no.1 pick here being one of them. Despite not being an ardent fan, they were one of several groups I liked in the `70`s, I went to see the film on release. It was well worth it the whole soundtrack is great, I have since bought the DVD set. It was one of several great Musical/drama films of the `70`s. Starting with (That`ll Be The Day) 1973 with David Essex, set in the `50`s. The sequel (Stardust) 1974 showing how the search for fame can go wrong for a singer. (Slade In Flame) 1975 the rise to fame of a band, what it can involve & what it can result in. Last but not least, (Tommy) 1975) the Rock Opera by The Who featuring several other artists, including Elton John, Tina Turner & Eric Clapton. Also, well known Actors/Actresses as follows :- Ann-Margret, Oliver Reed, Jack Nicholson, Paul Nicholas & Robert Powell.
How Does It Feel is not featured in this top 10. A great song. It was written by bass player Jim Lea when he was aged 12. It was his first song he wrote on the piano.
I bought all the albums and singles, they were one of my favourite bands in the early 70s. The film Slade in Flame is well worth a watch showing the sleaze of the music industry. I saw them live at Fresher's Week at the University of Birmingham in 1980, just after they did reading Festival. It was fantastic.
Personally I like Wheels Ain't Coming Down about a plane flight from L.A. where the band have a near death experience. The song starts and finished with the sound of a piston engined propeller plane ! How Does It Feel is another great song that inspired other artists. A lighter song with a flute. Lock Up Your Daughters, is a laugh. Very heavy song. Run Run Away is a very fast beat song. Slade, Status Quo, Queen, Eagles, Beach Boys - all good. But I only recently discovered a Dutch band called Within Temptation.I feel as if I have been living under a rock all my life not to have discovered these earlier. Female vocalist Sharon Den Adel has the voice of an angel. Not many can reach five octaves !! Great drummer. Three great guitars. An organ. Oh and I nearly forgot, a full frigging orchestra ! Try Within Temptation's Angels, or Covered in Roses, or Ice Queen, or Summertime Sadness (my favourite song ever), or Dangerous, or A Demon's Fate, Lost,
Where were the live songs from Slade On Stage? We'll Bring The House Down, Lock Up Your Daughters and Rock n Roll Preacher were the massive hits from their Newcastle City Hall set. I had seen them at Reading the previous year and all the metal heads were talking about them as if they were some glam rock joke. They absolutely blew everybody else out of the water, though, including Gillan, and Iron Maiden. Whitesnake gave them a run for their money as did UFO, surprisingly, but Slade turned up as a replacement for Gary Moore (or Ozzy - can't remember exactly) and totally stole the weekend.
If Slade had focused on being an album band instead of a pop single band they'd be up there with the best of the heavy rock bands. Ozzy said Noddy was the greatest rock singer in the world.
Not my #1, or even in my top 3. Top 3 Merry Christmas Everybody Cum on Feel the Noize Mama Weer All Crazee Now (my #1) You could run a survey/quiz with your community, and create the Squirrel top 10 (or top 5). You have most of the starters for a top 5 listed in this. Everybody seemed to get softer and 'glam' in the 80s. Heart went from "Barracuda" in the 70s to "Alone" in the 80s!! Best Wishes to You and Yours. ☮
Sladest and Slayed? were album titles. A number of their singles didn't feature on their studio albums, a practice that had been common in the 60s . Slayed? was a regular studio album, Sladest was a 1973 compilation. They had a run of seven singles with the mis-spelt titles, from Coz I Luv You through to Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me. My Friend Stan had the letter N printed the wrong way round and Merry Xmas Everybody did the same with the S. After that they just had normal titles. Far Far Away gets my vote!
@TheRealSquirrel Tony - I'll agree with the selection, but somewhat surprised that 'How Does It Feel?' didn't get a mention. For me it is one of their best tracks. Check it out, my friend, for a reaction.
Sing a long with the Noddster. Most of these I was still not a teen and remember watching ToTP and these remind me of that . Dave Hill is seriously creepy .
Most of the songs were in the same key (A), which made them a bit same-ish when all played together. They were mostly a singles band, so that didn't show as much on top of the pops.
Radio Wall of Sound was their last fling at the charts then Noddy and bassist Jim Lea decided to call it a day in 1991. The remaining two members carried on with various line-ups over the years but dummer Don Powell has retired leaving only lead guitarist Dave Hill as the only founding member.
The best song Slade ever did wasn't even on the list, I am shocked.. checkout 'How does it feel' its amazing... Noel Gallagher said was it was ones of the best songs ever written... ever!
A surprisingly good choice for number one, but otherwise this did come across as the ten songs the guy doing the video has heard of, put in a "top ten" format because people on CZcams are simpletons who go for that even if it makes no sense.
"Far Far Away" #1 ??? Not sure this would make my top 10. 1972-73 is their best period. So (in chronological UK release order) that's Look Wot You Dun Take Me Bak 'Ome Mama Weer All Crazee Now (my #1) Gudbuy T' Jane Cum On Feel The Noize Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me My Friend Stan Merry Xmas Everybody throw in "Coz I Luv You" and "Get Down With It" to make up the 10
Been a while (sorry). Good to see you're still active. You know, you don't just have to react to UK nonsense all the time (like Slade ffs!). This could be a quid pro quo type of deal. I mean, I wish you'd show we, your "loyal" subs, Boston. Give us a tour of the ground you have stomped! I, for one, would regard that as epic.
That's because after they made the film Flame they were all but washed up in the UK, So they headed off to America and made it big over there, If the video was from the UK "Coz I Luv You" would have been in the top ten.
Slade were the 70s --- amazing how Americans have no idea about anything that is not American . How insulting can you get 'a dust of Abba' -------- what are you on ? ABBA were nothing in the UK until after Waterloo (Eurovision 1974) Slade wrote and had the hit Far Far away before this in event in 1974 -- so who is copying who.
I was never a big fan of Slade at the time, but it cannot be denied, Noddy has an incredible voice. You could turn up to a gig with wet hair, stand at the back and by the time he got to the second verse you had a curly perm!
I like the one called 'Coz I Love You' I was surprised that wasn't on the list, great bunch of guy's love them.
Agreed!
WTF???? Where woz arguably the best ever Slade track 'How Does It Feel' !!!! I'm going to have a lie down now after that!
Their number one “Far Far Away “, was from a feature film called Flame. And in the 70s, teachers tried to get Slade banned because they encouraged bad spelling 😅😅
It only went to number 1 in Norway.
Wot it affecked childruns spellin bak then? I wuz at skool in the 70's and dint nose hat. 😃
Hey there Squirrel!
You may remember me, I'm the one who suggested 'Get down and get with it', waaaay back when, so I can't believe it hasn't made this 'top 10'!!
I still think it's Noddy's finest hour!! 🤣
Check out the film "Slade In Flame". It's Slade playing a fictional band called Flame and their struggle to make the big time
One not on there is Every Day, a slow song, but I love it.
Slade had so many great tracks that compiling a top 10 has to miss some classics, a few that come to mind are Coz I Luv You, Everyday, How Does It Feel, The Bangin' Man and In For A Penny.

My six year old self is commenting now! " How does it feel" helped me deal with my autism as a kid

Great show from a great band who absolutely rocked live.
No auto tune in those days just quality musician's doing their thing
Slade were part of my youth. Far Far Away may grow on you. 🙂
Always liked Noddy holders voice Slade were such a fun band

Sladest was the name of their album. Coz I Luv you is one of my favourite songs, i remember going to see them in 76 the first concert i ever went too.
Personally I like Wheels Ain't Coming Down about a plane flight from L.A. where the band have a near death experience. The song starts and finished with the sound of a piston engined propeller plane !

I LIKE (EVERY DAY) AND (RUN RUNAWAY)BEST AFTER THE CHRISTMAS SONG.
‘Ome’ is the Black Country way of spelling home …
Agree with the #1. But where's How Does It Feel? Don't care for their 80s stuff.
A few beers and Slade on the Jukebox that’s when things kicked off.
To leave out How Does It Feel is an absolute travesty!! I’d also Rock ‘n’ Roll Preacher and We’ll Bring The House Down in there.
Coz I luv you is my absolute favourite.
Slade was the first band I ever got into as a kid. So many cracking songs.across all their albums. You could write a Top 100.
The mis-spelling of words in titles was Slade's gimmick. The live album Slade Alive is worth a listen
Not my #1, or even in my top 3. Top 3
Merry Christmas Everybody
Cum on Feel the Noize
Mama Weer All Crazee Now (my #1)
You could run a survey/quiz with your community, and create the Squirrel top 10 (or top 5). You have most of the starters for a top 5 listed in this.

Born To Be Wild on the Slade Alive album is a fantastic track.
we'll bring the house down should have been on there

the best things to come out of Birmingham, Ozzy, jasper carrot and of course Slade
You should watch Vic & Bobs 'At Home with Slade' sketches Cup-a-Soup
@TheRealSquirrel
Tony - I'll agree with the selection, but somewhat surprised that 'How Does It Feel?' didn't get a mention.
For me it is one of their best tracks. Check it out, my friend, for a reaction.
FAR FAR AWAY TOP SONG,
Where the hell was "Lock up your daughters" ????????
Sing a long with the Noddster. Most of these I was still not a teen and remember watching ToTP and these remind me of that . Dave Hill is seriously creepy .
Most of the songs were in the same key (A), which made them a bit same-ish when all played together. They were mostly a singles band, so that didn't show as much on top of the pops.
'How Does It Feel' is not even in this list which is unbelievable, I rate it as the best song they ever recorded.
ALL FOUR STILL ALIVE AT THE MOMENT, BUT NODDY HAS SAID HE IS IN HIS LAST SIX MONTHS OF LIFE ACCORDING TO DOCTORS.
Radio Wall of Sound was their last fling at the charts then Noddy and bassist Jim Lea decided to call it a day in 1991. The remaining two members carried on with various line-ups over the years but dummer Don Powell has retired leaving only lead guitarist Dave Hill as the only founding member.
Wot ? ..... no 'Coz I Luv You' ..... surely their best song ?
Got to be No1
The best song Slade ever did wasn't even on the list, I am shocked.. checkout 'How does it feel' its amazing... Noel Gallagher said was it was ones of the best songs ever written... ever!
Wot! No Everyday or Coz I Luv You!! Jeez!
What! Where's 'Everyday '?
Have to check out their film, Slade in Flame, Doubt any copyright will catch up with you
You mentioned 'Sladest' this was an album title ;) Saw Slade many times over the years and was once told to 'bog off' by Noddy Holder lol
Yes, these are the right spellings 😊
Check out The smell of Reeves and Mortimer spoofing Slade. Very funny UK show.
So (in chronological UK release order) that's
Look Wot You Dun
Take Me Bak 'Ome
Mama Weer All Crazee Now (my #1)
Gudbuy T' Jane
Cum On Feel The Noize
Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me
My Friend Stan
Merry Xmas Everybody
throw in
"Coz I Luv You" and "Get Down With It" to make up the 10
Massively underrated band cuz they didn't tek themselves too serious.
*_You_* are a person of great taste and intelligence!
Mama Weer All Crazee Now is my #1 Slade song too. 😀
Best Wishes. ☮
They’re spelling in Brummie.
Grate banned cheerz skwirall

What’s missing off this list is Banging Man, far better than this No1
Always like the oldies. Slade got nowhere in America because of the way they looked. Kiss made it big, Go figure.
The best ever Slade song didn’t make the top ten. How does it feel! Awful list
I think this is entirely random or a selection by someone who doesn't know much about Slade & the UK charts.
That's because after they made the film Flame they were all but washed up in the UK, So they headed off to America and made it big over there, If the video was from the UK "Coz I Luv You" would have been in the top ten.
