I was in high school when Bloodsport was released.
Van Damme redefined martial arts like no one else aside from Bruce Lee.
He demonstrated the strength, precision, and flexibility of Martial Arts.
Never before had someone did full straddle splits between chairs, built an amazing body, and filmed some of the best kicks ever for that time.
He didn't "redefine Martin arts", but he was a great entertainer!

@@deusvlad2.083 Sure, bu het still didn't "redefine" martial arts... He was an amazing entertainer, but nothing was spectacular about his fighting.. Choreography of his fight scenes was actually quite basic.... To redefine something is a big claim.. Bruce Lee redefined martial arts.. Van Damme did not.. He has great, iconic movies that redefined the western action movie industry, but not martial arts.
I'm Japanese and half Chinese and was raised by my martial arts practicing parents.. My father practiced Shito-ryo Karate, and Wing Chun, for over 30 years.. My mother did Tai Chi Chuan.. I grew up around martial arts.. Redefining it takes more than doing the splits and kicking high, which is all Van Damme could do.
@@lunamaria1048 He's not really an entertainer well not a good actor or anything he just has charisma on TV, but I dunno I know hes strong in a fight because competitions are all about that, and having one of the worlds most balanced kicks carry weights on his back while mountain climbing and holding splits between 2 moving trucks is no easy task. His cardio must be insane anyone would be stupid to pick a fight with him seeing as he knows martial arts and has insane cardio to strength ratio, thats why steven segal ran from him in 2 different places lol.
As for redifining martial arts I never said he did 🤷♂😆

JCVD is a true underdog and a inspirational person. he was at the top of Hollywood in the late 80s and early 90s. unfortunately he fell due to a cocaine addiction. However, he has IMO, more that made up for his mistakes. who else in Hollywood or out of Hollywood can you say has a genuine heart and kindness for others like JCVD? regardless of what people may think or say about him, he is still my hero and someone who I look up to. JCVD is a warrior, and has the heart of a champion.

Most movies now a days lack substance and good plot. they just throw a bunch of sex and violence in the movie along with a few vampires and zombies and they've got a hit.

When i discovered Van Damme he had just a few movies out in the states. It was fun and a real pleasure to watch and anticipate the next new movie release. I would check out black belt magazine. Had the Double Impact edition when that movie was releasing. Fun times.

I love JCVD and he will always be my number 1.......but i think Jason Stathom would mess him up. He's quicker and has a stronger skill set. Compare A JCVD movie (In his prime) to a jason stathom movie......Example: Timecop to Transporter. You will see a difference
Steven Segal is actually the toughest actor out there. He is a master in one of the martial arts, thai chi if remember correctly. I saw a video of him taking on 5 black belts alone and they couldnt even land a hit on him

Blue Sky HD WRONG! :) It's called "Aikido". There's no such thing as "Thai Chi". "Tai Chi" yes. :) But yes SS was a master of Akido...7th or 8th degree black belt. But you also have to understand...Akido when you see it in film or demonstrations is very choreographed. What happens when your opponent isn't "going with the flow"? :) Is stronger than you..faster...
In the Expendables they have Randy Couture from the UFC...he's the real deal...super strong and excellent technically. I'd say if anything he would be the "ass kicker" of the bunch and now with E3...add Ronda Rousey. She's pretty strong and technically proficient. Ex-Olympic Judo Gold medalist...Or was it Silver? She did medal.
