  • Jewel cases, CD cases, acrylic cases, plastic houses for CD, whatever you might call these CD cases, they can be temperamental! They scratch easily, can show scuffs without any warning, and just overall see so fragile!
    But dear viewers you are in luck! That plastic polish you've been using to clean up your games? Well good news, it can remove scratches and revive your jewel cases too! And we'll show you how!
    Tools we used:
    -Novus Step 2
    -Novus Step 3
    (most plastic polishes will work but we'll have videos for other plastic polishes as well)
    -Paper towels or shop towels
    -Microfiber cloth
    This is a surprsingly easy thing to do, and makes a huge impact! So once you get those stickers off that case, let's get those scratches off too!

    HEY! Remember with this method you can do it as many times as needed. I don't go to a "perfection" level with this, it's just to give you an idea of the processes and steps!

    I've been practicing on a cracked case with a really noticible scratch on it to play around with pressure and ho-ly crap. It's almost completely dissapeared! Like you have to REALLY study it to even find it again.
    I was expecting to pay a price for getting it that good (like the Novus 3 making the area look noticibly worn, like you've taken sandpaper to it) but it looks great.
    Please do keep these vids coming. They're worth their weight in gold

      @@RestoreAndReplay hey man I'm gonna look now through your uploads but I today picked up a dreamcast with box and bunch of games for 100$. The box had some mold on and in it not horrible but i did clean off a bit but i can still smell the mold a bit, any suggestions for smell and will the mold grow back?? I saw using pledge works but I don't want to let it sit in the sun, thanks again and love the vids!!

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Před rokem +2

      @@Pawnfaz409 I've got a mold video in the works, but it's a long one! You'll want to treat the surface first. I use 50% white vinegar and 50% water. Wipe down the surfaces with that mixture and pat it dry. That'll break down the outer shell of the mold. Then you'll want to give it some sunlight to break down the mold itself. A half hour or so will work depending on the mold concentration. Wipe and repeat until the mold becomes much lighter.
      But now here's the thing, it won't remove the mold staining. For that you'll still need to use an APC and just be careful if it's on cardboard. Don't let it soak into the paper. Even still you'll likely have some permanent staining where the mold soaked into the cardboard. But it'll kill off any mold that's hanging around. Good temps and humidity settings will prevent any mold regrowth!

    • @Pawnfaz409
      @Pawnfaz409 Před rokem +1

      @@RestoreAndReplay yes thank you so much. I did read doing some research the stain will still be there but not to bad. It was like mostly surface and inside the box. I've seen using pledge works also. But that's all I did so far. I let the inside box parts outside in the sun because I was worried about sun damage to the box. But yes maybe 30 mins will be ok! I actually got an awesome dreamcast cd holder was covered in mold and had that sitting outside but it was windy that day and my dog got to it...... ripped some of the cd slots on the inside... was not happy lol.
      But yes I will try that man! Thank you so much I will take your advice as you are the man to ask imo!!

    Jewellers essentially polish against the scratches and only change to higher grits once the scratch is invisible.
    Obviously sometimes near enough is good enough though.

    Been trying out Novus 1 a bit.
    Definitely a great cleaner on cases and CDs.
    About 3 drops gets the disk completely clean.
    It also shines up quite nicely and very quickly.
    The scratches are still there but overall the case looks much nicer.

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Před rokem +3

      Nice! You can likely get rid of the tiny scratches as well, but it comes down to how much polishing and work you want to put into it. I say that if it looks good at arms-length, that's good enough for me!

    another banger video - genuinely surprised how well this turned out! tell me is there anyway to clean up the polyethylene covers on PS2 cases? having a hard time finding cases that aren't covered in surface scratches. Thanks!

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Před rokem +1

      So that's still in testing (and failing). It's honestly easier to replace the entire polyethylene sleeve than it is to fix it up. But I really want to find a way to be able to strip and polish those sleeves, because even a replacement can be frustrating. New polyethylene just doesn't feel right.

      I wish wish wish that Novus would work on polyethelene, but it doesn't work the same way. THANKFULLY there are a few other things you can use. ArmorAll, Novus Step 1, any plastic protectant with silica will help reduce the cloudiness and some minor abrasions. But I'm still searching for a better option!

    Any tips on cleaning and removing hand grim from a controller? After I wash and brush a controller to clean, there’s still grim in certain area, like below the button holes and such

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Před rokem +1

      Take it apart! The places where you get most hand gunk are in the seams. Those are easier to get to when the controller is dissassembled. And if you clean around button holes, you run the risk of pushing more hand gunk into the controller shell, so pop it open!

  • @HouseholdDog

    I seem to get more scratches when polishing.
    Light ones but still.
    Obviously some sort of grit or something?

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Před rokem +2

      You might need to add more polish. And try to wipe the polish off earlier too. It happens when you start to grind the polish into the surface, usually when the polish gets too dry and more aggressive. Never be afraid to polish for a bit, wipe off and inspect. You can never use too much polish, but you can use too little!

    • @RestoreAndReplay
      @RestoreAndReplay  Před rokem +1

      Yep yep! I have a really good white scratch on a PS1 case, and this process will remove those as well! White scrapes are sort of like jewel case road rash, so you'll have to work those a little more than normal scratches, but they should come right up!

    Thanks , great video has anyone figured out a way to remove scratches from dvd cases ?
    like a solution that slightly melts/corrode the 1 micrometer top of the plastic so it can de resurfaced/polished
    i tried novus and a rotor polisher leaves a nice gloss but dose not react with the material to remove the scratches .. yup it will be cheaper to just replace the cursed thing but when you have hundreds of ps2 cases that's not a cheap option plus good cases are hard to find

    • @RestoreAndReplay

      I have yet to find a good way to remove scratches from the polyethelene. BUT you can always replace the sheet itself. I'm slowly working on a video where I explain the process. It's easier than you'd think!

    can you use this plastic polish on the shrink wrap, was looking if you had a video on cleaning a sealed game, an old one with scratches and a little faded, want to minimize the scratches and brighten it up without doing any long term damage...
