Englishman Tom Walbank was born in the town of Wells,1969, in the county of Somerset. Raised in Totnes, Devon, he discovered blues in his teens, beginning harmonica (which remains to this day his main instrument).
He studied the harp style of main influence Sonny Terry and played constantly through his twenties after moving to Edinburgh, Scotland. Here he joined blues trio 32-20 and then, with guitarist Steve O' Connor, the acoustic blues duo Hot Tamales.
After meeting and marrying his wife, Leia Maahs, he moved to California in 1997. He also started playing guitar around this time in the style of John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Son House and Big Joe Williams.
Moving to Tucson in 2000 he started playing constantly in the local bars and clubs, establishing himself as a force on the local music scene, either solo or with guitarist Doug Smith or with Dimitri Manos and Mike Bagesse, aka the Ambassadors.
He has recorded ten albums and appeared on twenty others, usually adding harmonica. In 2009 he scored the movie Good Boy. He has won best blues band in Tucson five times, best blues band in Arizona once and (with pianist Arthur Migliazza) best blues duo in Tucson once, representing Tucson in Memphis in the International Blues Challenge both times.
Key of D, cross harp. Thanks for the support , the tune is a mix of Sonny Terry, Deford Bailey, Freeman Stowers, Johnny Mars , Rory Mcleod, Phil Wiggins and hell, even some Tom Walbank! Tom.
God bless
woah, regardless of what it sounds like, this is his purest form of self expression and thats what makes it beautiful
I read a lot of the comments on here. Lots of hating going on. All I can say is that this isn't what I envision myself doing on the harp, but man, if anyone can do this sound right he's the guy. MUCH respect! I like the slow and ballsy rawness a harp adds, but I'm not taking away anything from this guys talent. Gee whiz, if he can do that, imagine what it sounds like when he gets slow and primal with it!? Pure RESPECT from this ole boy. I enjoyed every second of it!
Nobodys really dissing him just giving credit to the originators. Like what Hendrix did with Buddy Guys guitar playing; took it to another level. This guy on harp is just unbelievable. Its like hearing every style ive ever heard together at once. AWESOME AND THUMBS (lots of thumbs) UP👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jim Chumley .......good point about the "every style at once". He definitely can play a harp.
Squeaky Reed No hating at all just honest comments. Im a harp player myself but this is sped up Sonny Terry with nothing original. You want to hear some awesome harp check out Sugar Blue, Kim Wilson, Charlie Mussellwhite, Jason Ricco. And as far as this style goes listen to Joe Filisco.
Now thats why people love Harmonica!!!
I could listen to this alllllll day long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally caught the spirit of blues harmonica. here. Reminds me of sitting on the front porch with my Grandpa stomping his for on the loose board and playing the day away. Excellent ! I will keep trying till I get hold of of too.
Michael N. DeWoods Did your grandpa snort cocaine. This guy is awesome but wild.
He is one of the best harmonica players in the world. You like or you don´t.You understand or you don´t.In this video he plays into the style of Sonny Boy Terry. He
is making a tribute to his main influence n´master- with a little bit more of speed, imagination n´
energy-.Tom can do things with harmonica that nobody can´t do n´ can play diferent
stuff and styles.A big and honest musician.
+Ted Jumble can do things that nobody can't do?!
So we can all play like this then!
Ted Jumble Not one of the best, there are about 50 or more in front of him to meet that catagory.
Ted Jumble There are many harp players just as good.
this isnt blues, Sonny Boy Williams is blues. this is mad skilled harmonica shredding. and i love it!
Man oh man wasSonny boygood
dam i run out of breath listening to this all the time
one of the best harmonica proformances I have ever seen or heard
Guru , King then more ...he is just incredible .
I've had the blues, I listened to Bob and Bruce and then I thought that maybe I can figure my blues out with making my own music? I went to my local guitar shop and bought a harmonica. I asked how do I learn to play harmonica they said CZcams. Thanks Tom for ringing my harmonica ears with truely excellent musicianship. Seems like an interesting world to blow off the blues. Thanks CZcams for giving me an easy chance to catch the train.
This was a good performance by a skilled player.
I just came....about 40 times....
I love this sound, it is positively some of the best I've heard. I'm a bigger fan of slower, bluesy stuff but this fast paced stuff is something I can really get down to.
Wow! A man after my own harp! You're channeling Sonny, adding a little Popper, mixing it with a lot of Walbank and taking Mississippi Delta blues to a higher level. Thank you!
People, the harp (AND BLUES) doesn't ONLY sound good slow. Branch out once in a while, its quite enlightening
Holy Crap !
That's frigging amazing.
I bow down to that !
Not many people in the whole world could do that on their best day.
I don't have any other words.
just wow !
@JudaIsreal Actually, he's a one woman man. Very talented British artist/muscian who lives in Tucson, AZ and plays all over. This is just a peek into what he can do.

Don't be daunted by it, be inspired, let your own desire to play, be your driving force and most importantly, learn at your own pace, remember, no two people are the same.
Superb. It seems that Tom Walbank took a trip to the Crossroads and made a deal with Legba.
Absolutely incredible!

You gotta hear this guy sing and play slide guitar too. Incredible singing voice texture like louis armstrong meets zz top but normal England, english speaking voice. Looks more like Daniel Tosh. Outstanding entertainer.

Thank you! A voice of reason! This guy has got nothing on Sonny Boy Williamson when it comes to blues.
