- "Cheraw dance" - the traditional mass bamboo dance of Mizoram performed on the occasion of Anthurium Festival 2013 at Reiek Village, 20kms away from Aizwal.
The Anthurium Festival is a 3 day-long event organized every year in September by the State govt. of Mizoram with the aim to promote tourism in the state and also encourage Anthurium cultivation in Mizoram. It is a very popular festival and has slowly become one of the most prominent tourism festivals of the North East region.
The Anthurium Festival is celebrated every year at the tourist resort in Reiek Village at the foothills of the mystic Reiek Mountain. Set in an idyllic and mystic location about 20kms away from Aizwal, the capital city of Mizoram, the serene and tranquil beauty of Reiek Village adds an amazing charm to the beautiful Anthurium Festival. Beautiful Anthurium flowers grown in Mizoram are put on display and sold during the Anthurium Festival and tours to amazing Anthurium plantations are also conducted during the 3days. What started as a way of promoting tourism and the amazing homegrown Anthurium flowers in Mizoram has slowly become one of the most anticipated festivals for tourists both from within and outside the country.
Anthurium Festival is also a festive event where all the various Mizo tribes get to come together and showcase their amazing cultures and traditions. The 3 day-long celebrations are marked by a colorful display of various Mizo cultures and traditions; indigenous games and sports, mouth-watering traditional Mizo delicacies, folk songs and dances, traditional methods of harvesting and cooking, handicrafts etc. Various local products of Mizoram like fruit juices, pickles, handicrafts, handloom items, bamboo products etc are also put on display and sold during the festival. Fashion shows and music concerts highlighting the talented Mizos are also an important aspect of the Anthurium Festival.
Anthurium Festival, for a tourist, is indeed a great festive moment to enjoy the vibrant diversity of Mizoram. A festival that not only highlights the tourism potential of the state but also showcases the amazing culture and tradition of the Mizos, the Anthurium Festival is a must attend.

This is one of the most beautiful dances I av ever seen in my life... I love Mizo people, their songs n dances... Love from Nagaland... 😍😍
Dance is beautiful but what about the folk music? How can somebody play western musical instruments while performing a genuine folk dance.
Nagas & Khasis never do that.
people in southern China also love the bamboo dance. Why our culture so closed❤❤❤. you can search by keyword “黎族竹竿舞“, will found lots of chinese bamboo dance videos🎉🎉

Unlike Naga people, they play western musical instruments while performing Mizo folk dance.
Genuine folk dances must be performed while playing folk instruments of that particular community(if they have any) instead of western.
while reading for upsc , i wanted to see what is bamboo dance. simply amazed to see level of art involving both men and women. it is heartening to see men playing supporting role while women are in lead role. the traditional culture of india is much deep and egalitarian than otherwise portrayed in the media
This can fool any Filipino who has never heard of Mizo people into thinking that this is a Northern Philippine indigenous tribe. I am always fascinated about our similarities, even if we're so distant in geography.
Nyla Noel , Are you philipini? Do they wear same cultural dress? Do they play same like mizo people?
@@tirthapomu4491 they have similar color patterns in their traditional costume where red is the dominant color...but the bamboo dances are almost universal in southeast asia and some parts of south asia and east asia...

@@WildFilmsIndia why do they play western musical instruments while performing a folk dance? A genuine folk dance must be performed on the music based on folk instruments of that particular community only, Otherwise it will not be considered as pure Folklore.
Western instruments can't be part of any indigenous Folklore.
@@homelesslavie_vlogs9600 It’s all about the dancing!!
@@homelesslavie_vlogs9600 well yeah, you are absolutely right. There are instruments for these, but they are not loud enough with all the bamboo's hitting each other.
Also, these are tracks played so it becomes easier for performers and the organisers too as we'd need another whole area for instrument area.
But yeah, what you say is very good analysis bhaiyaji👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😒
Their costume is similar to the igorot tribe of northern Philippines while their dance is the Philippines National dance called Tinikling. Wow this is so nice to know. I love this people. Keep your culture alive.

I really like Mizo dance..🥰🥰love from Garo hills, Meghalaya 🥰
I just love how methodical this dance is. There's a certain method to their steps, a certain logic if you will. The two sides start out by facing away from each other, then move in towards each other and exchange places, then form clusters of 4, then clusters of 2, and finally all clusters merge into one chain and end the dance. It's almost as though the dancers were following some pre-set formula.
Yes, it is well planned and needs precision, too! I'm glad you noticed...

wow!the way you describe Cheraw is beautiful, your comment should be added up there in the description box.
Mizo Cheraw is a sophisticated dance using bamboo for systematic and rhythmic beats. It has a rich cultural context - it's a dance celebrating harvest and performed on special occasions.
The attire worn here is Kawrchei (top), puanchei (lower) and a headgear called 'Vakiria'. This set is the most representative of Mizo traditional attires. Apart from bamboo, darbu and khuang (traditional musical instruments) are also typically used, but not in this performance.

Bamboo dance(cheraw) in particular is one of the oldest mizo traditional dance. It is believed that the dance already exist in the 1st century A.D while the mizos were still somewhere in the yunnan province in china before their migration into chin hills in the 13th century. Some of the tribes living in SouthEast Asia have similar dance on one form or the other with different name. However, on March 12th 2010 Mizoram set Guinness World Record for the largest bamboo dance in the world. Among mizo/people some says that cheraw was first perform by lai clan(one of the mizo clans are probably the oldest mizo clan) community and later expend in different part of mizo community altho some argue to that.
