An educational and enjoyable video. 🙏🏼 when you show us taking a seam ripper and redoing the seam, we understood. Some CZcamsrs want us to think they sew perfect seams. “Not helpful”. Seeing the impotence of details, ironing, measuring. ❤️
No music? BRILLIANT
Glad that you enjoyed the no music 😉 I rarely manage to sew an entire garment without some seams being ripped. I may as well show that part of the process-it’s what brings us all together.
I’m definitely not going to ever be a fast sewing person, because I’m not fast at anything.😂
I love that you show everything in such great detail and don't assume we know anything, which is so very helpful for new sewers. I would love to see more of your sew-a-longs!
You are so welcome! I’m glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful.
Cute dress! I admit it.... I'm lazy, but there is only so much sitting around one can do with a cat in my lap, so I've taken up sewing again. I've been sewing since I was five starting with a treadle machine in the 1950's and then went on to making Barbie-doll clothes in the early 60's, etc. I'm watching a few sewing videos to brush up on technique. Love the way you made this video because you explained why you are doing something as you do it in a very clear way. You sew very much like I do, so I can really relate. Thank you!
You are so very welcome! I’m also a lawyer which means I’m pretty good at explaining things 😉 my kitten refuses to sit in my lap and prefers to test gravity by knocking everything off of my sewing cabinet.
I loved your sew-a-long. That dress turned out just darling. I loved how well it fit you. Well done! More sew-a-longs please!
Thank you! We shall see about the next sew along 😉
YAY!! Watching all the way through first. Really appreciate your explanation of "facing" vs. "neckband" because I am working on another pattern and was so confused about that. Getting started on this one right away!!😃
Yay! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my video ❤️
Super cute dress. Could even dress it down with sneakers and a jean jacket. Thanks for sharing all the trials and tribulations with that facing neckline. I was taught that all understitching had to be done with the fashion fabric side up-but you managed to get away with actually verifying that the seam was caught doing it your way. Love seeing other options to accomplish understitching (very important but never one of my favorite tasks). Great sew along!
I was never officially taught understitching and it just made sense to sew it from the side to make sure it gets caught! You’re right, the dress would look cute with sneakers and a jean jacket. I’m surprised it turned out so well.
I am SUPER excited that you have a video for this pattern! 🎉Ive tried to make this dress at least 3 times and could not figure out the directions regarding the neckline. Thank you so so much❤❤❤
You are very welcome! I hope the 4th time is the charm ❤️
I watched this last night! you persevered ! there's a funny side to this actually you managed to tickle me with your sewing and your personality came through, Ive seen this pattern loads of times and had wanted to get it but chose not to because of that neckline but may do now and put pockets in it, all I can say it a big Thankyou to you for your patience, your video tutorials, and that beautiful machine you have I have two of the beasts from Bernina they're the bees knees! long may you continue to sew!
Aww thank you! I was pleased with the way the dress turned out, despite the amount of time it took to sew.
Thanks so much for this sew along. This was my 1st attempt making a dress, I would have been in tears without your help! Love the fabric, can you do a video on how to cut pattern with matching check, stripes circles etc. I noticed your dress print matches perfectly at all seams
I’m so glad it helped you!! Yes I will
make a print matching video next month!
Hi Toni. I am listening to you as I am cutting out the Rhapsody blouse.
Nice! Happy sewing 😉
Cute, curious kitty begins minute 5:00! Smart way to mark both darts at once! Did you mark the dot on the right side or wrong side side of the fabric?
Minute 53:54 what about hand basting? That way you don’t burn yourself.
Nice job! Might need to make this! For the back facing piece, I would typically just serge the edge with 3 threads because I like it flatter and seems to show through less. But, just my preference! Love your fabric! Thank you! 😊
That’s a good idea-I just didn’t think about it 🤣
Thank you for the demo. Nice summer great fabric.
Thank you for watching! I’m looking forward to wearing it soon ☺️
Thanks for sewing this one for us. I recently bought this pattern and was worried about how hard it would be.
You’re welcome! The trickiest part is the neckband attachment. But with some patience and A LOT of understitch it’s manageable.
I’m getting totally distracted by little kitty cat!!😂😂😍
She was very busy. I didn’t realized she was behind me until I was editing the video. Eventually I kicked her out of the sewing room.
The neck facing can just be zigzaged. Faster, easier, no lumpy edge!
I’ll have to try that next time
Was wandering is it possible to even overlook it?
@@susanneburton8077 yes, you can overlock or serge. I use only one of my regular machines as I always have.…
Been sewing for 60 yrs, taught by French seamstresses.
@@susanneburton8077 I forgot to mention I always loosen tension so the zigzag doesn’t cause a lumpy edge.
Toni thank you for this sew-a-long :) I have just recently purchased this pattern and now I have your video. Why do you keep you thread pieces in the jar? I love your channel!!
You’re very welcome Suzana! Let me know if you have any additional questions once you start sewing. I keep my thread in a jar because my pets hang out in my sewing room and occasionally knock over the trash can. It’s easier to dump all the threads when I take the trash out than snips here and there which might end up on the floor 🤣 thanks so much for watching!!
This is great! Had been looking for a review or sew a long on this pattern and couldn’t find one. Have sewn two and love them though I did the back of the neck in my own simple way! So glad you did this one!
Thank you! I’m so glad your found it helpful ❤️
Single fold bias tape has two folds. Double fold bias tape has three folds. Who thought that description up?? What brand is your iron? Does it leak? I bought an expensive Rowenta thinking it wouldn’t since it was “drip free”, but they lied. I have found that Wondertape (I use the cheaper generic version) really helps if I want to wrestle small seams into submission. That dress turned out so dang cute!
I have the exact same thoughts about bias tape- and frankly I’m confused on when to use the double “three fold” variety!! My iron is a Rowenta too. If I use it before it’s hot enough it will leak. I will have to try out wondertape! And thank you. I’m very happy with the way the dress turned out. Much cuter than I expected.
Great video! I wish I had it two weeks ago when I made mine! 😜 But mine is fine. I will wear it! 🤗❤️
I wanted to get it done sooner but things kept coming up in my personal life. Thanks for watching Nancy and thanks for being a guest on the livestream on Saturday ☺️
@@SewSewLounge I had fun! Ask me again and maybe I will log in correctly!! 😜
Great job on the video! What’s the brand of your sewing machine? I bought a computerized machine, I’m not happy with it.
I have a Bernina 1080 circa 1997. It’s one of the early computerized machines, which means I can really adjust the stitches and it makes beautiful buttonholes.
This is so helpful-can I ask what height u are?
Glad you enjoyed it! I’m 5’5”.
What brand of thread do you like?
It more of what my sewing machine likes 🤣 she sews well with Coats & Clark thread.
How come you dont have a serger…it would be so much easier
I have a serger, that’s how I finished the seams. I don’t use it for sew alongs because most people don’t have sergers and that defeats the purpose of being able to sew along with me. Plus there is no way to put the neckband together only using a serger.
Have you seen the videos by Sew Happy? That CZcamsr knows how to edit!!!
I spent hours editing this video to create a specific feeling for the sew along that showed the process but balanced the closeup views of sewing. I’ve never come across the channel you suggested; I took a look at her latest sew along. Not a fan of her editing, it’s too sterile and there’s no personality. But here’s the thing, my opinion doesn’t matter. Plenty of other viewers like her style based on her subscriber count. That’s the beauty of CZcams there’s someone out there for everyone. I don’t have to watch if it doesn’t appeal to me.
I love how you edit your videos. As a new sewer, your explanations are so helpful.
I'm making a shirt with the same type of neck line thank you for actually explaining the neck because I was extremely confused with the instructions
You’re welcome! They aren’t the best directions. It took me a while to figure them out too.
