    [Lyrics]
I've been holding out so long
    I've been sleeping all alone
    Lord I miss you
I've been hanging on the phone
    I've been sleeping all alone
    I want to kiss you
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
    Oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
    Oooh oooh oooh oooh
Well, I've been haunted in my sleep
You've been staring in my dreams
    Lord I miss you
I've been waiting in the hall
    Been waiting on your call
    When the phone rings
It's just some friends of mine that say
    "Hey, what's the matter man?
We're gonna come around at twelve
With some Puerto Rican girls that are just dyin' to meet you
We're gonna bring a case of wine
Hey, let's go mess and fool around
You know, like we used to"
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
    Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
    Oh, everybody waits so long
Oh, baby why you wait so long
Won't you come on! Come on!
    I've been walking Central Park
    Singing after dark
    People think I'm crazy
I've been stumbling on my feet
    Shuffling through the street
Asking people, "What's the matter with you boy?"
Sometimes I want to say to myself
    Sometimes I say
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
    Oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
Oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh oooh
    I won't miss you child
I guess I'm lying to myself
It's just you and no one else
Lord, I won't miss you child
You've been blotting out my mind
    Fooling on my time
No, I won't miss you, baby, yeah
    Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
    Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah
    Lord, I miss you child
Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaah Aaa
"Miss You" was originally released on The Rolling Stones' 14th album, Some Girls, in the spring of 1978. Some Girls was unbelievable when it was first released.....the Stones were BACK! There were a few fans who the record didn't work for, of course it was somewhat expected in certain circles to blast anything sounding remotely disco by a rock act (typically the band would be accused of being "desperate" and/or "selling out" if they stooped to the level of following the disco trend), but most everyone seemed to love the funky, drive of "Miss You". The song not only features the band firing on all pistons...great vocal work by Jagger, typically impeccable performances from Stones rhythm section (really Bill Wyman's bass IS Miss You), wicked guitar from both Ronnie and Keith....but it also features wonderful contributions by Sugar Blue (harmonica) and Ian McLagen (electric piano) and a really fine saxophone solo by Mel Collins (as a former saxophone player myself, I'm especially fond of the work of the great rock n roll sax players, including; Mel, Phil Kenzie, Clarence Clemons, John Helliwell, Andy Mackay, Raphael Ravenscroft, Anthony Thistlethwaite, and others).
This video features the full 12" Version that runs at 8:37 which was released in 1978 as the "Special Disco Version" and was the bands first dance remix 12-inch single. A shorter edit (about a minute) of the full mix exists (from 2005's rarities CD "Rarities 1971--2003") and was the most readily available version until the full mix was released in 2011 on The Complete Singles (1971-2006) Box.
A few months back I made a video that combined two versions of another absolutely 100% stone groove from The Rolling Stones..."Dance (Pt. 1)" & "Dance (Pt. 2)". As I was making that video, I realized that I might pretty easily come back and mix it up a bit for "Miss You", since the style and length (of the 12" version) of the tunes is similar.
For this one, you'll definitely see the earlier video in there....but lots more garish color, different images (great to get into Some Girl art!...I also couldn't resist pulling some effects I'd created for another earlier Stones video ("Melody") using art from Black and Blue).....and the dancing is still at 11! This was the kind of video where, as I go along I just keep finding more and more variations of effects, and by the time I've rendered an edit I've thought about even more new ones! After 7-8 fully edited video renders, I finally just had to stop. (I am bummed that I somehow lost a 6-7 second stretch of just the awesome slo-mo dancing girl somewhere around the slower middle section....I guess when I was chopping back for time?). Anyway, this is where it ended up....hope you enjoy it!
As always HUGE THANKS to everyone who's art made this new art possible....THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

The bass lines were a corroboration of Wyman and Billy Preston. There is a cut album version (after cutting, the band simply re-recorded the cut/ 4.5 minute version w/ more rock overdubs we know best). There is also the 12 minute Lounge Studio version and the 9 minute THUMPY Disco Version. Their live performance is always the DISCO VERSION. The Lounge version deeply explores the conflict between the crumbling marriage (Bianca) and a new one beginning: after this tour.......... every attempt to perform Miss You was an abject failure. Listen to them perform Whip and Miss You 1978 tour vs 81. Mick has lost his voice: he has aged out from a reasonable Tenor to narrow range/ Baritone. Keith and Ronny can no longer play their guitars with the precision you're hearing HERE!!....The drop-off so is precipitous from 78 to 81 (drugs and alcohol)..... it greatly contributing to Bill Wyman ultimately quitting the band. The Stones wrote all the songs for Tattoo You, Some Girls & Emotional Rescue from the Black and Blue and Some Girls sessions.

This version of "Miss You" the 12 inch disc I bought as a teen in 1978 has been my favorite song of theirs for aaaalllll time. Unquestionably, the 12" VERSION OF "MISS YOU" captures the essence of coolness that is the mighty The Rolling Stones. Ironically, it is one of the best disco club songs, as well. The Stones wanted to make music that fit well in the city club scenes at that time, and they hit the nail on the head with this one.

When this great song came out, the Stones had been around for a long 14 years and needed a comeback hit. They not only got one, but it became one of the most famous things they ever did. This song is now 44 years old, which makes it three times as old as the Stones’ first hit was when this comeback song was released. As of now, the Stones haven’t had a hit for over 30 years. I guess now they REALLY need a comeback hit!

JSloshooter Thanks man....it's kinda a drag that "videos" with just a picture seem to get all the attention...and some others where there is actually a video don't get as much love? Anyway, thank YOU for giving it another one! ;-) It definitely has the best audio of any version posted...happy you noticed!

Because the sad part of the world we live in today is that people do not care about audio quality over speed and easy. Or simply they do not hear what they are missing audio wise.

Thirty seconds in and already I love the vid. You can't fight smooth -- simple and sweet, and above all smooth. This use of the album cover is just brilliant. I remember when this album cover first appeared in Kief's record store in Larry, K. Like dumb creatures smelling smoke, we all knew something new was (at last) afoot -- it was the graphics that did that. These images lead the charge.

Interesting note about you being a sax player, and who some of your favorites are. Thanks for sharing. When my daughter was 18, i took her to see her first concert. It was Springsteen (i raised her right lol) and her favorite member of the band was Clarence! She knows good music, and so do you! This album WAS a big deal in 78. It really showed a growth in the Stones music, and still sounds great today! Thanks my friend :)

      @eg4449 Před 6 lety

I would call it expansion of the stones. The boys had really gotten bogged down in the studios for the last several albums. They were a bit over engineered. Some Girls was written a lot primarily by Jagger. Keith was in legal troubles at the time of it writing.
The recording process was more pure, with the boys going at it the same room. I sounds raw and direct. Its full of immediate energy. I love Some Girls. Its a tremendous album. The Stones were a Blues based band with strong R&B and boogie woogie from the beginning. They snuffed at many trends and put their mark on it. They had been doing country sounds since the late 60s. They took on disco, and mid 70s country twang, This album was a tour de fiorce of examining the current of America in 77 and 78.
Based in NY they let it sink in, with Just My Imagination and Shattered.
The touch was light, nasty, tasty, fast, electric and awesome.
I cant imagine tiring of this album. Just like Exile On Main Street the Stones create their own world and but reflect what was happening. Love it!
