    Indeed, this paper and the new Baryta Matt are stunning new options. Hahnemühle did a great job. The Bamboo Gloss is not for every image, but if it fits, results will be fantastic. It’s quite warm by the way. The Baryta Matt is my new benchmark for matte papers. Great detail in the shadows, a punch which is close to semigloss papers and huge color gamut.

      Any idea on the difference or potential improvements of DMax on the new Baryta Matt compared to their ‘standard’ photo rag?

    • @ytuberization
      @ytuberization Před 7 měsíci

      I don’t have numbers and it highly depends on the printer/ink used. There was a recent photo show with a booth from Hahnemühle in Hamburg. They showed some color gamut comparisons of new Baryta Matte vs. Photo Rag Ultra Smooth and the newer performed better. Other improvements might be tonality in shadow areas and sharpness, based on the Baryta component in the paper coating. Have also a look for the Baryta Matte video series from Fotospeed. They did some intro videos around the Hahnemühle Baryta Matt but also the new Fotospeed Matte Baryta (definitely not identical). They give some more information.

    Great as always! Would love to see the upscaling/image processing video for this magnificent phograph. When you said that "all" you had to work with was 8 megapixels my appreciation for the final product grew even more.

      Are you using the latest version of Gigapixel AI, which I believe is now 7.0 or the upscaling within Photo AI, which is now 2.3? Or perhaps another upscaler?

    As always Keith your insightful views concerning the art of the print is second to none. I have this paper as cut sheets (13x19) and printed a beautiful print of my daughter visiting a Christmas using the ABW mode on my Epson P800. I heard you mention you used Premium Luster not Premium Gloss. I was wondering why Luster? Secondly, what is your thoughts on using the Epson Print Layout software the most current version being 1.5.8? I have notice a huge difference with the print between say using the Hahnemuhle ICC profile and the ABW neutral print. And lastly how could I get a profile for the Bamboo Gloss Baryta for my P800...cheers!

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks! Premium Lustre[260] is just the media setting I used for profiling [and for ABW] it may be different on other printers. In general, profiles are not so good for B&W printing - ABW does not make use of them.
      As to the profile - no idea I'm afraid, the printer is likely too old for Hahnemuhle to support it - that means you need to find someone with the printer, making their own profiles, and using that paper...

    cool video, thanks for sharing, seems to be an interesting paper. The paper almost getting stuck at 7:27 was tense to watch, hope this was by accident and not by (faulty) design of the printer's output tray...

      I do, but quite rarely, so not something I'd express particular advice or expertise in ;-)
      The most useful thing I've got is a Logan mat cutter, which I picked up cheap at an art supplies shop closing down sale about 15 years ago ;-)

    Very interesting as per usual - may I ask, when would you NOT use the ABW mode

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Před 7 měsíci

      On the P5300, almost never.
      Potentially for some tones/tints, a good profile might help, but for what I've seen for this printer, that's about it.
      Some less standard papers might show issues, but none I've tested.

    Keith, I am impressivly stunned by the reflectivity of this paper, but the texture may be too much for some images, and as someone says it has low whiteness. I just found online that Hahnemühle just came out with this paper too: Photo Silk Baryta X 310. Have you tried it? It also seems to be reflective and punchy through the pigment ink, and has less texture and brighter whites. I'm wondering if this could be the perfect paper?
    Also, have you tried putting any water on the Bamboo Gloss Baryta prints, to see if it repels it somewhat? I'd love to find a paper that wouldn't need to be sprayed with a coating or covered with glass, and still hold up fairly well. I still don't have a printer right now to try it myself.

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Před 7 měsíci

      Yes - glad the texture was visible in the video - it would be more than I'd want for some prints, likewise the lack of OBA whiteness.
      I have some baryta matt to test.
      Note that I cannot afford to buy stuff for such testing, so am partly restricted to what people ask me to look at
      Water on prints does not go well...

    • @jefffenske1958
      @jefffenske1958 Před 7 měsíci

      @@KeithCooper Since you like OBA whiteness, you may really like the Hahnemühle Sustainable Photo Satin paper that I just now see that you also have to test (your new Canon printers' video).
      It looks like you have 3 of the 4 new Hahnemühle papers to test, but don't have the one I'm most interested in. Hahnemühle says: "Photo Silk Baryta X - new version of the classic Photo Silk Baryta."
      This paper will be white, but not as white as Sustainable, which has more OBAs, but I'm thinking may be white enough.
      The new Photo Silk Baryta X also is glossy, like the bamboo paper, but less glossy than Sustainable, according to their specs.
      Sustainable Photo Satin could be amazing if it's not too glossy.
      All four of these papers were introduced by Hahnemühle last September, according to their website.
      You may be missing the best one: Photo Silk Baryta X. I hope you get to try it too!

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Před 7 měsíci

      Just did a profile for the satin - it is a very low gloss. The matt is very matt
      Don't have the Bar X though

    • @jefffenske1958
      @jefffenske1958 Před 7 měsíci

      @@KeithCooper Interesting! The Grafisk-Handel CZcams page shows the four new papers in four, 20-second videos. The Bamboo paper does look more reflective than either of the Satin Bar or the Silk Bar X papers. But they seem to have a significant sheen.
      Hahnemüle's specs say the Satin Bar has a "gloss value" of 20, and the Silk has a value of 16.
      The Bamboo Bar doesn't have a number. They just say "high gloss."
      I really like the look of the Silk Bar in Grafisk's video!!
      It would be incredibly fun to test the three papers side-by-side, and see what they look like hung on walls in real life
      I'm looking to see the colors pop, like what happens in metal prints, with the dye ink allowing the reflective surface to project the image.
      Dye ink paper printers aren't big enough, and prints would have to be protected by glass or spray.
      I'm loving these options instead of going that route.

    Great video 👍 can you recommend what kind of paper should I use when doing a test print on my canon pro 300? Can I use just the basic standard a4 paper that I use in my cheap printer ? Or do I need to use the cheapest paper from canon?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thanks
      You definitely don't need a Canon paper, but you do need paper for which you have a profile, otherwise it's a fairly limited test [unless just for layout].

    I'm surprised to see so much gloss come through the pigment ink. How is this possible? Does the ink imbed into the paper so gloss is still on the surface?
    I've been attracted more to dye ink prints lately in order to get more color pop, because dye inks let the paper's gloss come through. But it seems to happen here with pigment ink. What's your take on this, Keith? Interesting paper!

    • @jefffenske1958
      @jefffenske1958 Před 7 měsíci

      How is so much shine able to get through the pigment ink?

    • @KeithCooper
      @KeithCooper  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Because the ink on this surface has a gloss... there is a similar gloss to the paper.
      Gloss with dye and pigment inks is a very complex subject - Quite a few technical papers have been published by Canon and Epson in the past

    rawtherapee's got this whole panel of wavelet tools that do fast fourier transform, turn an image into a collection of sine waves that can be manipulated, looks ever so complicated though, I've tried scaling a few things up in that with the normal tools, worked pretty well

    • @KeithCooper
