  • What is it? Do you have it? You probably have SOME - so the far more important questions are actually “What KIND Do You Have?” and “What Will You DO With It?”
    This video will get into that stuff. Because that’s what will help.

    This is so nurturing Glenn. There are a lot on that list I wouldn’t usually think of as talents because our society values and approves on some more than others; ones that don’t make a lot of money are often overlooked. Feeling validated- thank you for the reminder …also great shirt and always love the outtakes and “CEO of everything” intros 😂💯

    I believe you have a hidden talent for teaching Glenn. There is NO other source, I can find, that teaches writing as honestly and succinctly as you. Thank you again Professor.

    Great video! So reassuring to hear that some talents are still valuable even if they don't make quick money. Removed lots of self-doubt😊

      Thank you, wonderful to know it helps! Yes, it's not anyone's favorite truth to hear - but it is true and it should give some comfort and empowerment to remember money isn't always a good way to judge ANYthing in the arts :)

    Hey Glenn, big fan here. Thank you for another fantastically practical and encouraging video. I’m not sure if this is useful for you but I find that your intro music is often disproportionately louder than your speaking voice either side, and I often turn the volume down and back up. It may just be me and my sensitive ears. And it is very epic at that volume.
    Thanks for all you do, looking forward to the next video!

      Hi Alice! It IS useful, thank you. I keep trying to "mix it" lower but it comes out annoyingly loud. I will keep working on it, hopefully new videos will be easier on the ears. Thank you so much for being a fan, please don't hesitate to comment or advise :)

    Thank you so much for your videos!..... they have help me a lot, specially with the part of "do the work", for many years I didn´t do anything, just have that idea of "I would like to write" but keep waiting "something".... until I had enough and begin to do the work... now I have done 3 scripts, and I have shown it to people... they would be something else some day?... who knows? (I hope they do), but I like writing them, I like that from nothing... PAF!, there is something, a story that wasn´t there before.
    And as I say before, you were/are a big part of that, and for ever I´ll be in your debt. ;)

    I want to say that I appreciate you showing us the bloopers at the end of these videos. It emphasizes the idea you express that nothing will be perfect the first time around and that we need to embrace our failures in order to make progress. Leading by example: I respect that :)
    Your content is also high quality and I appreciate that as well. Thank you for your work.

    I don't remember where I heard it, but one loose definition of an artist that I like is, 'struggling to express yourself against the limitations of your own ability'. Somehow that makes it feel less lonely or intimidating, and less status driven. No matter how much knowledge we have or progress we make, there will always be the desire to go a step further. Even 'the greats' have/had to deal with that.

    • @writingforscreens
      @writingforscreens  Před rokem +3

      Yes! Though for me it took a long time to get to "...against the limitations of your expectations." Because if we're really working to our abilities, we should be joyous. It's the expectation of it being something ELSE than that, for me, that was so hard to work through. Maybe TMI...

    • @Ruylopez778
      @Ruylopez778 Před rokem +1

      @@writingforscreens I guess I'm saying that my limitation is my actual ability - which is a threshold below my expectations.
      So, yeah the 'expectation' is perhaps the thing that motivates me, even though expectation is multifaceted and intangible. Somehow the words struggle and limitation is a reminder I'm making incremental progress even if it doesn't always feel that way, because even mistakes help to define what I don't like or don't want. And even when I get nowhere, I'd rather waste time getting nowhere than not try.

    Your Outlining (using Mac Pages) has been so immensely helpful. Thank you for that so much. I'm brand new to your channel, from a Film Courage video. I would still be trying to find an outline method that clicked but now I'm good. I'm writing fiction but I think in scenes.

      I think scripts and fiction have many areas of overlap - and sometimes applying the lessons of the other form will bring an extra depth to either one. Thanks!

    Right in the bull's-eye of the Venn diagram of Realism, Actionable steps and Encouragement, as always! Perhaps sharing knowledge and teaching is an important part of talent that provides further self-reflection, motivation and satisfaction? Certainly it seems to come naturally to you, and makes a pleasant change from the reductive and dogmatic attitude of many writers and gurus. It's also interesting how each of these videos complements and reinforces other concepts you've shared - chiefly, approaching everything with an open mind and paying careful attention.

    The weirdest thing about talent : You think you've got plenty of it before you get the writing gig. And after you're offered a writing gig, you're like geez, I've got none of it! What should I do now?😂😢

      Take a deep breath, keep operating as if their "mistaken" belief in you is justified. You never know: you might have more than you think - or the task might require less than you fear! Fake it 'til you make it!

    • @writingforscreens
      @writingforscreens  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes, it's an old store display - I got it at a vintage-junk store 25 years ago. It has a hole in ther back for the electrical cord if you want to put a light inside.
