- The Hornet opened at Flambards Theme Park, Cornwall in 1995 and is Britain's most Southerly roller coaster! Manufactured by Zierer, this Hornet roller coaster is one of only two ever built and stands at 35ft tall above the park. The ride features a total track length of 1,345ft and reaches a top speed of 26mph!

Flambards have just released a statement that this ride along with a few others will be closed down this year.... Sounds like the beginning of the end for Flambards.
Massive shame, I remember going there when I was on my hols as a kid and absolutely loving it. The Victorian village and Britain In the Blitz museums are amazing.

Fun fact - this used to be a coaster called "Nightmare" at a themepark in Canada called Boblo Island. The whole thing was inside a building and it was very dark with cool lights etc. This was over 30 years ago.
Fun but not true ... Nightmare was a Vekoma ride.
i nearly went on this back in 2016 or so and i was terrified, looking back on it, the ride looks tame as anything but now i really want to go on rides such as the smiler and all of the ones at thorpe lmao

that final trim brake brings back PTSD of almost losing a tooth many years ago

Tip for the final trim brakes if you push on the front of the car it makes it a lot less sharp. Love this ride definitely a highlight at the park. The environment around the coaster is quite fitting for the ride track. Have many fab memories of this ride and continue to ride it to this day

I remember loving this as a kid! I thought i was so brave for goong on such a bug, scary rollercoaster. I went on again as an adult rcently and its still really fun.

This brings back so many memories. My nan and grandad use to live not far from the theme park When I was a kid. Me and my sisters would always go to my nan and granddad's for a week in the summer holidays. And they always took us here. This rollercoaster was our favourite we would go on it 10 to 15 times.

It's even the same layout as Vol'd'icare in Parc Asterix. Didn't knew there's more than one version of the Hornet Zierer.

Lol yeah. And to make things more interesting, both this and Vol d icare are clones of an entirely different ride. An old coaster from Tivoli Gardens called Kometen, later Slangen. That one was mirrored compared to these, built on top of a building and the parks pathways, and used 2 across seating rather than the inline seating on the Hornets.
The ride opened there in 1989 but was taken down in 2003 to make way for the B&M floorless Dæmonen. Today the original still stands at a local entertainment centre called DippieDoe in the Netherlands, where it runs noticably slower than originally. About the same pace as the 2 Hornets. Strange ngl. I assume it must come down to something like using different wheels with more friction.

I remember when this ride first opened. It looked so high and scary compared to the roller coaster it replaced (the Dragon?) - I thought I was so brave for going on it! Haha 😆

Ahh, my first ever rollercoaster as a child. I used to love this when I was on a family holiday in Cornwall 🙌Funnily I went from this to Nemesis Inferno, it was quite the jump and I found out what positive G's were 😅

Yo Shawn I'm at alton towers and it was my first time at on nemesis and galactica its was very scary since I've never been on a ride that inverts also I fainted on oblivion that was not fun 😐 but this a great park 👌❤❤
