I have a question - it seems that the local time is not displayed while the stopwatch or timer is running. That's a big con for me. One possibility comes to mind though, if you can check and let me know here. Maybe while the stopwatch/timer is being used, one can switch to timekeeping mode with the stopwatch/timer continuing to run in the background and one can switch between the two modes?

I agree completely. I've had and have other brands, but I have a Casio on me more than all others combined. I especially like the AE1200 series. It's basically a larger version of this watch, plus a small analog in the top left corner. But yeah, you can wear a Casio of some kind no matter where you are or what you're doing. And "more bang for your buck" definitely applies to many of their lines.

In this day and age of smart watches, it’s still refreshing to see these watches exist. And even better to see people sporting this in person (I was going to buy the gold version, but I wished they made the lighting better, and Casio has cheaper watches with Electro Luminescence, as I’ve learnt on this channel).

For a first time watch review, I think you did an excellent job. The backgroung music volume was ok, not loud or distracting, but audible and just enough to fill in a few voids when you stopped talking for a second. Your presentation was great, not hurried and droning on and on in slow motion. I think you did a great job of going through the features and how to use each one.
Why Casio doesn't just incorporate EL backlighting into everything is beyond me. I have a super cheapie that has EL, the F-105, which is basically nothing more than an F-91. They've got the exact same features, in the same order, and dimensionally, they're close enough that unless you're holding them up together back to back, side to side, etc, comparing them and scrutinizing every little pinhole, the difference is almost imperceivable to the human eye. It only becomes obvious if you attempt to swap one module into the other housing, that they're not quite as identical as they appear. Anyway, this $10 bottom level of the entry level totem pole has EL, and I have a G-Shock with EL backlighting. It's obviously cheap enough and easy enough to do on a sub-entry level watch without really having any effect on the price.
Ok, enough bitching about EL backlighting...
A few months ago, I bought a Casio A500 from an eBay seller, gloss black housing, black SS band, normal silverish display, blue World map. The watch I got wasn't even close. I didn't know it at the time, but it turned out that Casio doesn't even make this watch in black, and it doesn't look like they ever have. The thing said Casio all over it, it looked great, had a Casio battery cover. The guts were just some cheap-o Chinese movement with a cheap version of a negative display. It wasn't even the same watch in the picture of their listing, and they didn't use a stock photo. They actually have the watch in the ad, they just ship out something completely different. The second I got it out of the package, I knew it was counterfeit. I opened an eBay case because the seller is avoiding me. Seller never responded to the case, so I got a refund including the shipping, and I was told to do whatever I wanted to do with the watch as long as I didn't try to sell it. They recommended destroying it because it's a counterfeit but it wasn't required.
The watch landed in my Casio drawer and forgotten about until a few days ago when I started looking around for a silver one to take apart, and put the guts into the counterfeit black housing. I found one at a good price, supposedly used but when I got it, it looks like it's brand new without tags... So even better! When I saw it, I couldn't bring myself to opening it up just to remove the module for another watch housing, so I'm going to just leave it alone, except the band. I removed the silver SS band from a "stainless steel" AE1200 and transplanted it onto the A500. Totally different watch now.
The watch is easy enough to figure out how to use without instructions, but there were a couple things in this video, such as swapping time zones sround and some extra features in the alarm, that I had no idea that could be done.

Excellent video. One disadvantage of EL lighting compared with LED lighting is that the digits associated with EL tend to be less sharply defined than digits associated with LED. If I had to choose between the two, I much prefer sharply defined digits (which are viewed all the time) over superior lighting (which is only used occasionally). This difference is somewhat illustrated at 12:35.

I have this watch coming in this week. I just wish it's a bit bigger, maybe 40mm not counting the buttons. Also wish they'd make a version out of stainless steel, 316L maybe, mineral glass, and solid links on the bracelet. Maybe redesign the bracelet too. Not a huge fan of the stock bracelet. I'd gladly pay more for that version.

Just some advice the LED light is classified as red light which doesn't disturb sleep patterns, the EL light is blue light which does. That means in the night if you wake up and press the button the RED light won't keep you awake ;)

With the exception of the case diameter size, the AE1200 aka Casio Royal is far superior. It includes all these features plus a second graph complication and duel LED illumination for a more even distribution. Anyway nice review cheers

Great watch. Thank you for uploading the review.

Great video Man! It was really professional. I actually have a question. How can I change the time in my extra time zones. I have the t2Chicago t3 Tokyo t4paris. But after checking the current time online they are a few hours behind. What can I do to fix this?

Hey thank you! Hmmm I think those are only automated so I’m not sure what to do about them being a little bit off. Could be a daylight savings issue that CASIO overlooked? Sorry I’m not sure.

It's cool but you're right, it needs an upgrade - EL back lighting, I'm thinking in a cool blue/white hue... and if they made it deluxe with solid steel case and bracelet... I actually think it would be a hot seller! Also, a glow on the map, showing where you are at all times, maybe just when it's dark a sensor to come on and illuminate your current timezone.... that'd be cool.

  • @sped6954

Kind of odd how they have two similar watches, basically just a slightly different format and obvious size difference, the AE1200 and the A500. Both watched come in a "stainless steel" version, but the A500 has a much brighter finish. The AE1200 looks a lot different in person than it does in ads. In person, it looks like gray plastic. The A500 has a mirror like finish, even though the housing is plastic. I think just for laughs I'm going to try to out the AE band on it just to see what happens lol.
    EDIT:
It looks amazing! I though I would have to remove a link, but all I needed to do was adjust the band one size smaller using the mid-bracelet spring clip. If I ever decide to swap this band back to its original watch, all I would have to do is adjust the soringbar one bitch looser than what it is set on at that time. I don't foresee myself ever swapping it back though.
Regarding the color availability of this series - The models with the blue world maps are going to have the black display border, while the ones with the black world maps are going to have the display border coordinated with the watch's color. Personally, I'm glad they did it this way, because I wanted the blue map for whatever reason, plus the black display border breaks up the watch a bit while transitioning from the housing to the actual LCD, and the color coordinated one takes a cheap watch and makes it actually look cheap by having the housing, the display border, and the actual LCD all in similar colors, at least in silver models. The gold models have a bit more contrast to them, so it isn't too bad, if you happen to like gold that is, which I don't. The gold one is a little different though. The one with the black border and green map has a good tinted LCD, while the one with the black map and the brown border has a silverish LCD.

I was contemplating this or the AE1000/1100/1200w stainless steel series and I went for the latter because weirdly, it is cheaper and has a clamp bracelet. I am surprised that this has a higher price tag than the AE1000 series with a simpler bracelet. If it has a lower price tag and a clamp bracelet, i will go for this rather than the chunky AE1000 series.

    I love the orange LED.
It looks a bit closer to the 80's incandescent bulbs in LCD watches.
EL is usually blueish green and ruins the retro feeling of these watches in my opinion.
And besides that, I can perfectly read the time in the dark so I don't see the problem...
