- MXR BLUE BOX OCTAVE FUZZ
www.jimdunlop.com/product/m103...
- Adds fuzz to your signal and then duplicates it two octaves down.
- Control the mix of the fuzz signal with the two octaves down fuzz signal.
- Used by Jimmy Page for the solo in Led Zeppelin's "Fool in the Rain."
With a legacy going back to the early days of MXR, this is the crazy effect heard on Jimmy Page's "Fool in the Rain" solo. The Blue Box takes your guitar signal and duplicates it two octaves down for a huge, subterranean tone. The Blend knob lets you control how much of the fuzz tone is mixed with the two octaves down signal.
Because of its analog and organic circuitry, the Blue Box produces unexpected and unpredictable sounds that makes it a very unique tool that can add to the creativity of your recorded or live performances.
Not for the timid-there is truly nothing like the Blue Box.

I love how you can completely turn of the octave and just have a solid fuzz pedal and leave it, and if you want the octave, it's right there!
Thurston Moore ran it like that during the Sonic Youth days
I stack it with a tubescreamer 808 clone into a Fender '57 Deluxe amp sim pedal then into an amp. Killer one! Unfortunately the volume of the BB is under unity.
I love this pedal, it doesn't make it's way onto my board much, but when it does, it stays on for a damn long time. It's a unique sound that turns heads.
Gigging much these days?
Fool In the Rain!
I remember the first time I tried one of these at a guitar store I took it back to the counter and told them I thought it was broken. lol know knowing that's how its suppose to sound
once i've connected my Boss Super Octave OC-3 to 24V supply adapter by mistake on stage. Now it sounds like the Blue Box...
good
The best freakin comment into a pedal video tho
The most............🤯
I ordered one of these buddies, with a boost. It's gonna be fire.
Super Mario noise glitch fest in a box... YUM
Nightingale1887 makes me want it Cuz it sounds old school 8 bit
Cross this pedal with a wah. Sonic awesomeness.
Before or after?
@@marekw7562 before !!
If you cut out the c11 capacitor, it sounds better more balanced louder output. Mine is usable after I did that
Inspiring pedal! Makes you play different!
Awesome video
Luscious.
I need 3 of that!!!!
Amazing sound like led zeppelin song fool in the rain
...if Fool in the Rain contained a 10 minute tangential solo by Buckethead.
He used this exact effect on the song
This is how you do a pedal review!! 🎸🤘🏻🔥
omg dat sound...
Hello. I have noticed that a lot of people experiences that when they engage the pedal the volume drops drastically. I experience the same thing. I play it through an Orange Tiny Terror and if I want to actually hear the pedal at all, I have to turn the vol up on the amp so high that it becomes way to high when I turn off the pedal again. In this video at 2:14 the pedal is turned off and the amps vol is not much higher than the pedal. Have do you achieve this?
Love or hate I guess. I love it.
Great classic synth like sound. The only problem I have with these pedals is that they have way too little output volume.
Remove the C11 cap and it makes the fuzz more wild and it’s so much louder
HELL FUCK YEAH!!!!! Straight up P-FUNK greatness! Take me aboard that mothership!
im sold:)
James Deprato is f*cking Awesome! ❤️🙏🏻🕊🌿🌻🕯️🪶🎼🎸
Is this worth getting? Or am I better off getting a separate fuzz and octave for more tonal options? I do like the unique sound of this, if not the blue box I was thinking Russian muff and the EHX pitch fork
The ehx you mention are much clearer and higher-fi
Hi. Is this pedal good for the Melvins songs ? Thanks
Sounds like one everlasting long fart
I heard that Pat Travers used this along with another pedal to get his "revved up" sound. Anyone know what that other pedal is? You can hear it on "Life In London", "Hammerhead", and several of his other tunes. Is it a booster of some sort? I think on "Life In London" it's in the 2nd solo break. URL: czcams.com/video/MRNHiWJDUTk/video.html You can't miss it.For in the song there is a big jump in intensity and width/volume.
Hi dunlop. I just bought a mxr blue box. I was wondering if i could power it with 12 volts?
No
I like how when he turned the blend all the way off he just noodled on the 6th string. Heaven forbid they show case what the effect sounds like in its most extreme use.
Sound's better than my clone
ДАЕШ РООООК!111
Just posted my demo of this pedal if anyone's interested. I'd appreciate the feedback!
Shut up and take my money!!!!
A volume knob
Want so hard. Send me one so I can demo it for you guys! :3
When Jimmy Page picks up a pedal, fucks with it for a 16 bar solo on ONE song then never uses it again... you know you should just discontinue it.
I've got an old script one, sounds just as well.... like this. I've since replaced it on my pedal board with MXR's Bass Innovations "Bass Octave Deluxe" and I honestly use it all the time; and it's incredibly versatile.
Because one legend dislikes it you should discontinue it? Thurston Moore uses on of these all the time...
You have any suggested tracks I should listen to?
***** It's all over anything he ever put out. His pedalboard hasn't changed since the early nineties. Blue Box, Turbo Rat, Russian Muff, Phase 90 and a weird wah pedal.
I don't know about "best", but it was a pretty vicious tone happening....
Was it Fool In The Rain? That song was on the last Zep album and Page didn't pick up the guitar for years after Bonham died. So we will never know the exact reasons why he didn't use the pedal on another album...
I prefer the MXR SF01 Slash Octave Fuzz.
This does not have the octave up.
The sub into fuzz on de Slash model is awesome. I use the octave up for Jimi Hendrix stuff or to add some color.
u should call it atari box
Does anybody know if I can run my blue box at 12volts? I've asked dunlop but they didn't get back to me.
9 volt
weird!
Can someone say buckethead
They use Tesla’s free energy 😂
I personally hate this pedal. The Elecro Harmonix Octavix is ten thousand times better and also uses an octave up giving that classic Hendrix tone
But this jimmy page's style
This pedal has literally zero volume...
i have this pedal and it sounds absolutely nothing like this. sounds like complete shit, which is weird because i absolutely love all my other mxr and dunlop pedals
It sounded nice until the pedal kicked in :-(
sounds like shit. I hate fuzz
