    Chains make you engage your core muscles more. The same weight in chains makes the exercise twice as difficult because you have to stabilize using all your muscles as the chains swing.

    Guys, a workout doesn't have to be all football drills to help you become a better football player. Fact is, every play in a football game or practice is unique and different. Therefore, the fact that this workout is different, in itself, is beneficial. Besides, how does getting stronger and in better shape not help you be a better football player?

    The most practical use of chains is on barbell exercises like bench press, squats, deadlifts, etc. You have different strength points at different points of your lifts (that's why you can 1/4 bench more than full ROM). The chains de-load at your weak points and overload at your strong points. Dave Tate has a few really good vids on their use. I don't know if there is any proven practical strength advantages to how the chains are used in this video

    Also, when you bring the weight to your chest on a bench, the chains gather other floor, so the closer to your chest, the progressively lighter the weight becomes. The further from your chest, the heavier it is. This makes you increase your exertion exponentially to compensate for the more and more dangling chains.

    I'm a fan of crossfit football. Despite the name, its a generally great program for all power athletes. Their program has you do a strength workout first, rest for a few minutes, then a conditioning workout. Plus they take the time to design programs for Amateur, Collegiate, and Pro level athletes, then take it a step further and design both in-season and off-season workouts. Free to all.

    when the bar is down the chains are on the ground, meaning there's less weight, but when the bar is cleaned and jerked the chains are hanging, meaning there's more weight. so its all about that burst power, chains are especially good on a bench press!

  • @nicka52
    @nicka52 Před 11 lety

    They also help you get through sticking points by adding more weight as you get the lift up, i.e. less chain on the ground=more weight. Thats why when you see say someone benching with chains and they have 135 on the bar+chains, well by the time they reach full range that 135= maybe something like 335-depending on chains weight-

  • @Djinner13
    @Djinner13 Před 11 lety

    It's not just that. At the bottom of the lift some of the chains are on the ground decreasing the weight. As the clean is executed all the chains come off the ground increasing the weight. The weight changes over the length of the exercise.

      The chains force you to accelerate the bar throughout the whole lift, as the weight gets heavier as the chains lift off the floor. Once entirely off the floor in the pressing portion of the movement the chains sway and create a higher demand on the core and other stabilizing muscles.

    • @bigwillymonsta
      @bigwillymonsta Před 9 lety +1

      Ade Bbif The reason the reps are so high is probably to do with building muscular endurance. The arm and shoulder warm up was for the fact that the workout was very shoulder and arm predominant. So its very important that you do a decent warm up. Its a common mistake amongst people who train to just get on a treadmill or bike for 5 min and think that's all they have to do to get warmed up. Yes that does help but you also need to focus on the muscle group you will be training to warm it up properly to minimize injury.

    As a strength coach there is not much if any validity to anything seen on this video. Working hard does not mean you are being affective in reaching a goal. If the goal here was to get some people tired than mission accomplish, but if it was to create a better athlete, specifically for the "upcoming Combines" the goal was drastically missed. I would assume that the Jaguars are not going to test their athletes on being able to move a rope for 7 minutes as nothing in football lasts for 7 minutes. I could have someone do jumping jacks with ankle/wrist weights until they throw up, but that does not make it a "good" workout. To be honest I really just feel bad that the 3 guys not only had to do an exhausting pointless workout, but I am sure they paid a pretty penny for it also.

Although on the field there is certainly a correlation between alot of these workouts and football specific movements and points of strength. I know on the D-line for example shoulder strength and speed are irreplaceable in getting the "first significant touch". This is the nfl bug guy, they are not wasting there money on nonsense.

      Judging by your comment you must have not competed or trained at a higher lever in football than Pop Warner. Cause where I'm from (Florida)this is a highschool workout.. I've been training like this since I was like 9 or 10. High reps are great for certain things

      RB/T.GILL#28 so because youve been doing it its proper training? and no i actually played 4 years of college football and am becoming a gpp coach...meaning my job is to make athletes better, and no i will not be doing anything remotely close to this style of "training"

      Tired just after the warm up? On the other hand power clean form is very tricky to get, for me at least.

    Lol you people saying this is a shitty workout never played football. In order to play at a high level you need "armor".
    And a lot of stuff they do is relevant. Once your in a college d1 program you will know for sure.

    For all the negative commenters out there let me just say a few things. 1. In all likelihood, you couldn't do it. 2. This is off season conditioning. Not strength training. 3. They're millionaires. You work at Wendy's. And finally, if you don't have anything positive to say STFU.
