The error of Michael hitting "Rocket Fire" instead of "Turbo Boost" is from the original video, thats not something that was mis-edited.

More Chargers were destroyed during the landings than Trans Ams were doing the same thing. Those Trans Ams could take a beating, especially the KITT cars.
Fiberglass KITT Noses and Fenders are a lot cheaper and easier to replace than bent metal frames of Chargers.
It was a much lighter car. Those old Chargers were a tank

@ 14 seconds in you can see the driver of the Charger has a little confederate flag patch on his chest, lol...leaving ZERO doubt it was a jab (probably light hearted) at Dukes of Hazard who was on a competing station. I loved both of these shows, but one thing about Dukes...all their jumps were real, as were most of the Knight Rider jumps, but several of them used small scale models.

one of the reasons for kitt jumping the 69 Charger was that Jack Gill who was on his way to becoming the head stunt co-ordinator on Knight Rider and he had previously been a stunt driver on Duke's of Hazzard and the inside joke was that Jack was "jumping over himself"with this stunt.sorry to see the hatred here from the Charger Dukes crowd but the 82 Trans Am could easily out handle the Charger on the track with superior handling and braking abilities-did I forget that the Charger could not make 10 miles to a gallon of gas or that in the wind tunnell results would be a joke but trying to compare Knight Rider to Dukes which was an out and out comedy is like trying to compare the Man from U.n.c.l.e.with get smart .and lets face it the fictional Kitt was the only car on tv or in the movies that could jump over an obstacle-try that for real and you wind up with the 80 something or so Ohargers wrecked each season on dukles and who knows how many Trans Am's were lost on Knight Rider.
If you want a joke try to compare the horsepower of the physical 82 Trans Am to the actual General Lee. Even that Universal promo about the General Lee gave it a 13.9 quarter mile while a 82 Trans Am could only dream of that performance. When they planned a competition between an actual Kitt car versus an actual General Lee the Universal crew chickened out and packed up after they saw the General Lee car. You can ask Jack Gill about that.

James Merkel but if u jumped that trans am it would so badly damaged cause its smaller and built like a lambo in height general lee can handle that type of damage
they used a crane the trans am wasn't even damaged
