The babies arms are supposed to be over the straps according to the manual

They can, and often will (esp older toddlers), but its absolutely optional and both arms 'in' and 'out' are perfectly safe.

@@hannahwallace8188thanks! It took me so many tries for me to feel comfortable with arms out but arms in wasn’t working he is too tall I think .
What is the best position for child’s hips for a older toddler who doesn’t face inward from front anymore. I only used the back carrying because I had to go through airport carrying multiple things and a dog but I didn’t like that. I couldn’t see him . Is the side hip carry ok
