- This video is a walk around St. Katharine's Docks, in the Borough of Tower Hamelts in central London. NEXT VIDEO: Tower Bridge: • Walk Across Tower Brid... .
Many people who visit the Tower of London or walk across Tower Bridge have no idea that just across the road is a wonderful piece of quiet called St. Katharine's Docks. Today a mix-used area of retail, residential, and maritime interests, it was once one of London's busiest marinas and factory areas.

The hospital, St Katharine's by the Tower was founded by Matilda, wife of King Stephen about 1148.
Thanks Sinead I do enjoy your tours the most and St Katherine's Dock brings back memories of when I used to play truant from school and wander around the Dock looking at all the different boats! 👍❤️🇬🇧 Thank you
Watching from New Zealand

Yet another amazing tour of our great capital city. St Katherine’s dock is incredible & has so much to offer. You show a lot of people that London has So much to offer than they would of ever thought. Thankyou Sinead, loved it

Glad that you enjoyed the video, Tony. If you haven't done so already, you can hopefully check out our back catalogue of virtual London tours czcams.com/users/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. There is more where this came from.
Watching again 🥰 Seeing Gloriana reminds me of The Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012. Cold, damp, gloomy day it was and yet how they braved it. I remember Prince Philip being taken to hospital after that event. He must have stood there for too long keeping himself together. The things they did for duty and service to their country. xx
Hi one of my favourite video is your ripper tour I really enjoyed that one
Fantastic video, welcome to St Katharine Docks. You will have to visit again during our fantastic Classic Boat Festival (9th-11th September). Best wishes from all the Marina team at SKD
Limerick here ☘️😀. I absolutely love your videos! Amazing walk & the ‘Dickens inn’ is definitely on my bucket list. ❤️

Just love your video tours of London! Really informative and well done! Would be great to see a tour or the Granary Square/Coal Drops Yard/Kings Cross area if you are working your way down the Regent's Canal. Also the new Battersea Station area.

Having been nowhere for 11 years to ptsd, I’ve really enjoyed your videos. So much so that I plucked up the courage to visit Hampton Court Palace for my birthday in March and stayed at the beautiful Mitre Hotel, somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for many years. I’ve also now booked the Tower Hotel for a visit to Tower of London. Thank you Sinead for giving me food for thought and whetting my appetite to travel again X
What a lovely comment. We are so thankful for your support, Ruth!
The Gloriana was built by an Irish company from cork, i seen the drawings at the unit it was being built in, beautiful piece of work.
We love the extra info, Liam! Thanks for sharing.
Wow😍
I've been to London twice and did the standard: Tower of London, V&A, Tate and British Museum but I'm finding interesting places like St. Catherine Docks with your tours. You make it seem like we're walking with you. Just fabulously well done.
We are so glad to share somewhere new with you! If you haven't done so already, you can hopefully check out our back catalogue of virtual London tours czcams.com/users/FreeToursbyFootLondonvideos. There is more where this came from.
So nice to see all the boats. The Dickens Inn tour was very enjoyable and had a lovely view. Thank you as always Sinead.
Oh thanks again Sinead for this video. You went to Ireland which I loved as I mentioned to you my mum's ancestors came from Ireland. Anyway, as an obsessive genealogist, I found through some research that some of my ancestors (who came from Kent, Devon and also East End London, left England via St Katherine Dock. When I visited England in 2008 a friend who lived in London drove me to St Katherine dock one evening, which was magical to see it all lit up. I love you have done this video about it, and the information and history you always provide. I just love your videos, esp the London cemetery ones, where I also have many ancestors buried, and once again your amazing knowledge of all these places....love you heaps....Vicki in South Australia
Thanks for sharing your history with us!

That was great Sinead - thank you from NZ! Great to see tucked up in the corner of the docks, the restored ex Port of London Authority survey launch "Havengore". She is best known for carrying the body of Sir Winston Churchill as part of his state funeral in 1965. Another great video and commentary. Can't wait to get back one day.

Thank you very much Sinead! :) This heatwave is really unusual but autumn is around the corner! :)
The rain has already started!
thank you very much for such an interesting video of these. Katherine Docks area of London. I am 81 now but I was born in southeast London and worked in the City of London when I was 16 up to about 25 years old. So later I moved to Essex and still worked for a short while in the City of London. your videos are amazing. Keep on making interesting videos, many thanks. Take care of yourself.
So glad we can share it with you!
Your videos are awesome !
We are glad you think so, Peter!
Thank you Sinead for another lovely outing. The docks are a nice oasis amid the hustle and bustle of the city. I'm surprised to see the jubilee barge sitting in the open unprotected from the weather. Still nice to see it, though, and be reminded of the flotilla and what a sight that was. I'd love to visit the Dickens Inn for a few pints on quiz night.
Glad you liked this one, Jean!

St. Katharine Docks is definitely worth visiting. Loved the new residences, and their contrast to the "older' parts of London. A great place to take a break after visiting the Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Nice bars and restaurants. A hidden gem in London. Definitely quieter and less crowded compared to "south of the river".
Agreed, Doug!
Aw thank you #SineadOLeary for this lovely walk.
I am the opposite to you.
I LOVE Autumn and Winter seasons.
So when we are coming up to the Summer I am like, oh noooo it will soon be Summer!
Arrrrghhhhh!
LoLoL
But I remember the Royal family on that barge.
It was bucketing down.
Poor P. Philip
God Rest His Soul
Amazing! London has changed so much since I was a kid. My mum used to take us into London (from Wembley) on a sunday morning in the 80's. Now I live in NZ for the past 17 years and I miss it so much.
Come back and see us, Annya!
@@FreeToursbyFootLondon definately, my eldest comes back to the UK next month so I'm planning a visit next Xmas to see the family

Welcome back !. Sounds like you enjoyed your trip to Ireland and why wouldn't you. I always smile when you are our tour guide on CZcams's "Free tours on Foot".,. I do think all your colleagues are wonderful, but you are my favorite one !! Great to learn about St. Kathrine's history and believe it or not every time we walked Tower Bridge in the 7 times I have been in London I totally missed it being there! Will make a visit for sure in our next trip and maybe even request a private tour from you Sinead !!
Definitely contact us for a private tour! Margaret@freetoursbyfoot.com :)
My dad had used to have his boat here in the early days of the marina! I do not know if you know this, but during the Napoleonic wars, the pow's were kept underground at the docks where you are walking after you go past the Ivory House! The other thing I forgot to mention was that the dickens pub as it was known as! Was physically moved from where it was in one piece to the present place you see it now! I just got to the end and I saw a Thames Barge that was there in my days and We all got to know the skipper who had been on that Tb since the age of16! He was one heck of a caricature
We love the extra info, Nigel, thanks for sharing!
