Hans is no ordinary type of villain, he is a young man who grew up in a very toxic environment because of his father and brothers and had to harden his heart in order to survive and gain their recognition and approval by seizing Ardenelle but failed to do so.
If he had a very supportive group of people who can show him that there's another way he can overcome his demons, he wouldn't go through the trouble of seizing another country.
His genuine love for his mother and Lars shows that he actually has redeeming qualities and is not a complete monster as TV Tropes would say.
I don't condone what he did but the first movie did a good job of explaining his background and his start of darkness to the current day where he feels that he cannot change.
I would love to see him go on a redemption and self-reflection journey to the point of helping Elsa and Anna battle a villain a lot worse than him but the alliance is only temporary.

Even before reading Frozen Heart, I knew there had to a reason why Hans was the way he was. Years of my sister (another major Disney fan) stating that villains aren’t born bad along with films like Big Hero 6, Incredibles, Maleficent and even anime series like My Hero Academia has made me realise that “bad guys” are just as much a victim as those they prey on. However, I find myself conflicted because despite knowing why Hans became the man that he is and sympathising with him, I can’t find it in me to forgive him. He manipulated everyone around him and tried to commit murder. That isn’t something to be easily forgiven.

It's nice to see someone not trying to blame Hans's actions on the trolls for once.
He'd have to be taken out of his current environment before he could ever change for the better.
I tend to think that Elsa had done background checks and the guests to her coronation and learned things about Hans that raised a few red flags in her mind.

But it is still someone's own responsibility at the end of the day for his/her/their behavior. Very good and interesting video!
I really appreciate people from Disney Fandom, who know about Hans's backstory, and think he is actually good person, who turned bad and cold because of abuse and toxic family. Many people think that Hans is character without any emotions, and pure evil villain, but my opinion is different - I really feel bad for him, because the way he turned evil wasn't his fault, and in my opinion King Westergaard (Hans's father) is the real villain of the first "Frozen" film, because of hating his own, weak son, and turning him evil.
I really hope that Hans will return in the potential next "Frozen" franchise installment, like movie, book or TV series, and he will show his real, good personality, understand his mistakes from the past, finally confront his evil father and what's the most important - grow up emotionally and finally being redeemed ;)

Also another point that I think is important to understand why he became evil is that he didn’t turn this way only because « he was abused » he turn evil because the king literally threaten his children their entiere life. All hans bro are evil because with their father this is either you are nice and you suffer either you are evil like him and you are reward Hans was the only nice ( weak) of the bunch ( Lars being something in the middle) at some point he grew tired...and he fail for his dad threat. This makes me think that maybe another franchise owned by Disney but developed by ZagToon Animation has a character similar to Hans, although this character also lies a lot; like the meaning of her first and last name; “One who lies to protect”; Lila Rossi.
Lila is evil, but what if she has a backstory that hasn’t been told yet that reveals why she lies. She hates Marinette/Ladybug for calling her out on her lies. And the more people who are beginning to see through her lies causes Lila to feel even more vulnerable. And this would cause Lila Rossi to feel like the lies she was telling to protect herself or someone else who is close to her and has been abused in some way; maybe Lila upon realizing that everyone is now starting to see through her lies; she decides to be honest and explain that she had to lie in order to protect herself or someone else close to her who was abused. If Lila Rossi has a tragic backstory; then she may be a possible candidate for redemption.

Bcuz the last time I watched Frozen I saw that in the scene where they’re trying to capture Elsa and Hans was gonna run in the stairs when the ice monster almost got him but he did not just went back like he was literally risking his own life to go to Elsa. We also see one of the soldier was trying to hit Elsa with the gun or something but he went there and put the soldiers hand up and so it did not hit Elsa. So maybe there is a chance that Hans can redeem himself through Elsa or he has actual feelings for Elsa but he was too cruel to himself. Well I don’t know it’s just my theory 😊

In all honesty, I never really cared for frozen. I hated it because of what they did to hans. I JUST DID NOT MAKE SENSE at first. This I cite brings more light, if only disney put this in their movie it would've made much Morse sense. Do I think hans deserves a redemption, the answer is no. But do I think he needs one, the answer is yes. Because in truth, no one deserves a redemption, but they need it because every soul needs a savior. If a 3rd frozen movie comes out, I'm not going to see it if they don't have a redemption for hans in the story.

I’ve always felt bad for him to be completely honest and I really hope that Disney gives him a redemption arc because he deserves it more than a lot of the villains however I also believe that there is another villain that deserves redemption which would be Lady Tremaine because even though she was cruel to Cinderella she was always kind to her own daughters, and that has always made me think that perhaps Cinderella did something to make her stepmother despise her so much.

I would be interesting to see a live action villain story like the cruella and maleficient story but with Hans. I don’t think they’ve ever had a male led live action like that before other than aladdin

I know it’s not exactly cannon but still they still use and reference the First Frozen Film Heavily, but anyways the Once Upon A Time Version Hans actually teams up with a few with his Brothers to Get Revenge on Queen Elsa and try to conquer her Kingdom. Until he accidentally releases Aunt Ingrid whom Kill Hans and Brothers I think. But as for his Official Backstory as is it does make me have some sympathy for him, and at the same time it actually gives him more of a character aside from just having him being the Muhahahahaha type of villain.

Originally, it's not impossible to see what Hans says and does as either good or evil. He is, from the point of the backstory, doing his best to survive in the harsh environment that his entire toxic family created for him.
Brothers that mistreated him to the point of pretending he didn't exist, his father allowing it all to happen... If Hans couldn't fight for himself, then it was a weakness and he wouldn't save the weak-willed.
Now, FF to the year of Frozen, and we can see that he worked on his charisma, charming his way into Arendelle (and/or) Anna's heart to get her to marry him. The sappy love song doesn't help matters for Anna, but for Hans it helps all too much. It plays into his charismatic charm, forces people to believe his way of thinking is right and there's no other alternative.
Later in the film it shows that Hans was willing to let Anna die (freeze over into a statue) after wedlock in order to seize control of Arendelle (when it wasn't even Anna's to begin with- it was Elsa's responsibility). He was even willing to commit one of the most aggressive sins (murder) in order to get the recognition he always wanted. And he failed.
His brothers basically telling him he now has to muck the stables the rest of his life is a punishment... I personally don't deem it right for the crime of "Attempted Murder," but my mind goes to "kill them instead" as a punishment, to see how they react to basically what they were doing to someone else. Show them how horrible they were behaving, force them to watch and listen to it all over and over again, drilling it into their head that this isn't the way to be. After succumbing to this kind of mental abuse for a few years, let him back out into society as a peasant (stripped of any power and rank), and have him work to gain favor back into the good graces of the royal family/families that deem it worthwhile to give him a second chance.

To be fair, a lot of people grow up with abuse and all sorts of other bad circumstances and yet don’t turn evil and still remain good people.

    Stop justifying wrong people.
It is a trend nowadays to support and justify people who have done wrong things.
It may have been understood if he was 'cold' to her or a secret gold digger but he meant to let Anna die, a pure hearted person cannot do this. She was not responsible for whatever happened with him, so it was not a revenge. He could also enjoy wealth alongside his wife, but he was cruel and selfish enough to make everything 'his'. What was not going to be his?
If it happened with you, would you justify then?
