Yep, in the manga and season 0, Kaiba invented holograms for Dual Monsters entirely because Yugi used the puzzle to make the monsters real in their first dual.

The blue-haired girl is Miho. She was a main character in season 0 but was removed from the actual Yu-Gi-Oh! series and because of that nobody in the abridged series acknowledges she exists, hence why Yugi said "Did you guys hear that?" in response to her "Miho loves to dance!" comment.
She was never supossed to be there in the first place, in the manga she was a one time character and her personality was different, they just made her a main character because they wanted to have another girl on the group besides Anzu.

Ironically, Season 0 Kaiba is canonically more messed up than regular Kaiba. He drove his Gozaburo to suicide by gaslighting him.
Yeah, season 0 is an AU, which is most obvious in how different the Kaiba brothers act. Also, the other girl is Miho, a girl from the manga who only showed up once, and in season 0 of the anime (she was given a bigger role in the original show and just doesn't exist DM). Oh, and Honda (Tristan) was given a slightly different personality...
Actually, it's not. It's based of the first half of the manga. The series everyone knows is based on the second half.

Yes. In the manga, and season 0, Yugi is the one who gave Kaiba the idea for the holographic projectors. He was traumatized by the monsters Yugi summoned in their little shadow game featured in the episode. In return, he forced Yugi's grandpa into a duel using the new projector technology.
In the manga Duel Monsters wasnt actually the focus until volume 8. The only games played until then were against Kaiba (he beat Kaiba twice actually). The put that duel in the first episode so that the show could focus only on card games in the anime. Season 0 isnt about duel monsters because the original manga was originally about all sorts of games
The background was from when it was originally called...Monsters and Wizards I think? Also, the other girl is Miho, aka Ribbon. She was a girl Tristan had a crush on in one chapter of the manga who never showed up again. The first anime made her a main character for some reason. Also, yeah, the first time the card game showed up, it was to duel Kaiba, who stole Yugi's Grandpa's Blue-Eyes. He didn't have any of his own at the time. Said Blue-Eyes sacrificed itself since Kaiba wasn't his true owner, and then Yugi let Kaiba be mentally murdered by Duel Monsters, to "Know Death". It drove Kaiba insane. Also, Mokuba was crazy evil back then. Tried to have Yugi killed several times, poisoned Joey in a Russian Roulette food game.
Who was more evil Kaiba or Mokuba? Specifically Kaiba after he goes mad?
I mean, Mokuba was bad, he poisoned Joey, and would have poisoned Yugi had he not lost...but Kaiba hired a literal Leatherface/Jason Voorhees type serial killer and several world-class assassins to murder Yugi and the gang...Kaiba seemed worse.
Miho is only exclusive to Season 0 and Seto and Mokuba have a role reversal

The music he keeps using when Yami talks to Yugi is from Halloween. And I want to say the creepy Kaiba music in this one is from Nightmare on Elm Street.

I think the "devil" was from TOME by Chris "Kirbopher" Niosi. LK voices a character in it. I need to go back and rewatch it at some point...

yu-gi-oh( which means king of games) focused on many games and yami talent on playing them. The studio and the author of the original manga later based the plot on duel monsters because out of all the games duel monsters was the most popular. that is what i know i could be wrong but the entire anime and the manga was mostly horror unlike the abridged and the English dub like yami marik (who was named melvin ) actually enjoyed toying and torturing with others like with mai valentine the duels price was every monster is destroyed part of duelist memory get erased, with yami bakura (which most of the shadow realm bullshit was based on) every time the player loses their life-point part of their bodies is getting eaten by the creature in the darkness and with joey well the exact same only with fact that joey's heart actually stopped and yami vs marik the soul of their partner get erased from existence all together. so yeah yugioh was always dark.
That was ep.1 of the actual version too, seriously though not the most terrifying one, pick a finger or better yet, pick a colour...watch Season 0 to see what I mean

Duel Monsters makes its first appearance, Episode 3 of S0, it only shows up I think 3 more times afterwards though

Yes, the other girl is Miho, she was Honda's love interest and the 'airhead' character. She often spoke in third person and to be fair kinda used Honda's affection for her to her advantage at times, while also being completely oblivious to it. She didn't make it to the next cut, probably because she wasn't that vital and they used Serenity as Tristan's love interest. Serenity does show up in S0, she has pink hair...also Jonouchi has the hots for a nurse during that episode
Honda's sash said 'Strong Beautification Week', Honda was a junior custodian in S0 and took cleaning and after ep.1 enforcing school rules pretty seriously. He had the sash for this self-organised week because Duel Monsters' popularity made them collectors items and expected people to try and take them through unjust means...go figure.
In the Episode and Manga, Kaiba switched the card with a counterfeit after asking Yugi to bring it to school so he could look at it one more time (he made the briefcase offer beforehand), they also explain the importance of the Blue Eyes more, that it was such a strong card that they canceled production, Grandpa's sentimental value is the same though, it did belong to a friend, Yugi considers the card akin to his grandpa's Heart given how much he treasured it. Yugi knew that this happened, but hoped that Kaiba would have a change of heart, instead he got a briefcase to the face.

The Shadow Game does also inspire the effects of holograms for Kaiba. In the Episode, Kaiba escaped the game by ending in a draw (Field effects were a bigger deal back then, the map had various field areas), unhappy with the draw, Kaiba made it his mission to defeat Yugi, summoning the 'Four Shitennou/Four Dragons' to help him. In the Manga Yugi won and trapped Kaiba in a trading card and was continually killed by the duel monsters, he recovered a little but continually had nightmares of it. He managed to simulate the ordeal for his Death T, and subjected Yugi's Grandpa to it.
Mokuba was an absolute little shit in Season 0, his laugh is like nails to chalkboard...Kaiba's still the more antagonizing of the two, but Mokuba is far from innocent

Well it wasn’t exactly supposed to be horror. That’s more how LK takes the character. It’s more like Yami is what gives a villain character their comeuppance.

The original was supposed to be a horror game thing..... LK just turns it up in Yami's character upto 11.....
yugioh was a different concept back when it started..the card game aspect of duel monsters became the main focus of the show to market a real life magic the gathering type ripoff card game to make money and be able to build episodes and arcs around monsters that you could make cards of for kids to buy rather than the story characters or ideas of season 0.
.i blame pokemon as well cause the card game got popular in mid 90's...its pretty sad actually...we make fun of it being a childrens card game now and rightfully so but it originally was more than that and season 5 tries to get it back to that feel of an actual show not just duels and marketing...once something gets popular its hard to change it back but season 5 unlike 2 3 and most of 4 is actually solid cause it has a through point and isnt just rushed thrown together random duels that are stretched out filler...time interactions and story matters...the original concept is brilliant dark eerie unique and not for children under 11 at all...they butchered what made the show great especially in America..not seeeing season 0 dubbed and making every line different ruined the iintensity of the og show which tackled sad subjects like depression lonelieness reliance on others and peoples lack of trust and comradary feeling down on yourself and bullying..
i always enjoyed the main characters for thwir positive friendship that was built up in season 0 from a uncomfortable place and turned into that bond we see in ep 1 of duel monsters that can't be broken ....and gramps enthusiasm love and just overall relationship with yugi joey and arthur ...
Trevor Daily well it turns to horror when the villain of the week gets their comeuppance. Like the fortune teller guy, the beautiful teacher, Tea's stalker/rapist, and actual criminals.
no season 0 is a toned town version of the manga chapters. Kaiba land was literally a death tower for yugi and company complete with 3 paid assassins a room with giant bricks falling from the sky to crush them (almost kills mokuba btw) an electric chair roller coaster that would kill you if you made any noise then a serial killer named choppy, known for chopping a campsite full of people into pieces, then if you made it through all that there was a card game with kaiba. it's really fucked up and absolutely horror/psychological thriller until the end of duelist kingdom. the point being the anime in all forms is toned down from the manga even after they start to focus on card games

There was a fourth "episode" of Season Zero Abridged originally, but it was 5 minutes long, most of which was a shot of Kaiba screaming while death metal played, then it swapped over to a clip showing the song "What a Wonderful Thing to Know" from the movie musical "The Slipper and the Rose".
When the original upload of Season Zero Abridged was taken down for copyright purposes, once the strike passed and the series was reuploaded, "episode" 4 was not put back up.

clearly she was only there to be eye candy for guys who are into purplr hair ...its pretty common in anime...they like throwing in extra females with different hair colors to appeal to different demographics and make them more Asian looking ...if every girl and guy had say brown hair you lose like 40% of your audience right there....
She only appeared in one manga chapter to do… something…, then the animation studio decided to stretch what little character she had to and beyond the breaking point.

My headcanon is that Kaiba and Mokuba intentionally did that to throw everyone off and to actually win a game against Yugi. And only Yami was caught off guard by it. The rest just played along.

The animation studio and license holders were different for the main YGO anime. Hence why Miho vanishes from the face of the Earth, as she has nothing to do with the manga.
Where as Serenity is a part of the manga, beyond a couple panels.

you seemed to miss the point of kaiba saying he would do anything for the card and then giving up so quickly saying see you guys later and mahiko loves to dance line and yugi saying did anybody hear that and tea saying sounded like the wind and kaiba saying hes a very huggy person ...
You probably had seen Season 0 before, just one of the tamer episodes. Hard to believe, but all the punishments in the anime are actually pretty toned down from the manga.
