@@squaredcircle1111 Fumbling with distortion sounds very muddy with cringy dissonance. So unless you play in a wall-of-sound band there is nowhere to hide, distortion or not. Nothing as annoying as a muddy fuzz unless that's your thing.
Distortion always exagerrates details, everything becomes much more sensitive. It's harder to play heavely distorted and you have to be more critical to unperfections. Imagine it as crunking sound of everything up.

Guthrie Govan’s Erotic Cakes album kinda scratches that itch imo. Especially the song Wonderful Slippery Thing
Jazz fusion is your friend
Check out Alex Skolnick's (Lead guitar from Testament) solo stuff, is basically this.
Jazz Fusion is definitely what you're looking for. Check out Marbin.
Al Di Meola.
The to helfire solo sounds really jazzy clean
nah not at all
It's the way he played it, his skill did that, although metal and jazz aren't super far from each other.

I like how the solo ends in a tritone. Even in jazz, that feeling like you are going to die in a moshpit is still there. \m/
To be fair, tritones are a part of jazz too! Jazz has roots in blues and the minor blues scale has a tritone in it.
Jazz actually uses the tritone way more than metal, jazz harmony is full of tritones
Lorna shore + jazz goes FUCKING HARD
Idk what I'm more surprised about: the awesomeness of jazz arrangement of the song, or the fact that a jazz musician character recognised Lorna Shore.
