- How does one process the feelings of betrayal by a religious leader - especially when that religious leader is also family? That's something Michael Shamblin is trying to figure out.
Spiritual abuse is so real. I’m so glad Michael has a chance to speak out. I pray he finds all the closure he needs.

I really feel for Michael, he was abused and his raising awareness is healing, as well as helpful in recognising other cases like this.
When you realize you have a narcissist parent, it is difficult on children to see them for who they really are. My 🙏🏾 to her children. Phil, that you for the follow up and I sure this will be healing for others who felt victim to her scam.

As is happening with the nasty creature that is trump. I’m atheist, but I studied Christianity, I knew that the bible has several points where it says followers should only worship one god, him, & to follow others is a sin, yet they look at trump & glorify him as a god! I’m really don’t understand it, he’s broken so many of the Ten Commandments…he claims to be a Christian, he doesn’t behave like one who should be looked up to.
There’s a reason I did RE as an atheist, the other two options were geography with a teacher who could bore the pattern off wallpaper, an absolute nasty cow who for some reason hated me or RE with a very nice lady. I went with re 😁
I did the weigh down workshop. The Bible study was good at the beginning. I saw her a second time a few years later and thought it was about the workshop but it was all about this new church she was getting reading to open. Her daughter got on stage and got on this rant that it is the ONLY church and If you don’t join you’re going to hell. I knew Gwen had sold her soul I thought this woman thinks she IS god. Like he said, she was a completely different person. I walked out I wasn’t the only one. I had a couple of her books shortly after (within days) I tossed them in the trash.
Yes, it started out well and then went off the rails. I threw all the materials away after that too.
The early teachings of WDW were helpful, but definitely ended bad.
I found the faith-based weight loss plan of Judy Halliday, RN & her husband Arthur, an MD to be good. They know that Jesus is Lord, part of the Trinity!

It takes an incredible amount of willpower and strength from Micheal to do this,I can't express how proud I am of him and I hope we all get to set ourselves free like him.
This is a prophesy fulfilled. Jesus said beware of false teachers and false prophets. Gwen Shamblin is just one of many running rampant in America. God can and will heal Michael and those who come out of this cult. 🙏🙏🙏

I would be extremely interested to hear Gwen's ex-husband's perspective on all that happened. Has he ever spoken out? Do he and their children remain in contact?
He passed away last year from cancer 😢
David Shamblin recently passed away. As far as I know he was in contact with Michael and Elizabeth, as well as the grandchildren right til the end. My understanding from people who knew him was that he was a decent, godly man. Maybe that’s what finally gave Michael the courage to come forward with his story.
I appreciate Michael telling part of his story. He has a lot of character, courage and integrity. I think hes compassionate about his sister, and we should relate to that. Wow, im just happy hes ok mentally from his experience! I hope to see him out living his own life. ❤

Thanks for speaking your truth Michael. I visited weigh down many years ago and met Gwen during one of her radio shows. I remember having 2 ladies seemed to be “assigned “ to me while I was there. I visited the church and met the ladies there also. I wasn’t connecting with the whole giving credit to Gwen part but I did make friends with the ladies.
Look at the pictures of his sister before Gwen died… the woman was skeletal. Dangerously thin. I hope she’s gotten help.
It looks like Gwen had an eating disorder and so does Elizabeth.
You should see her now. So so thin. It’s concerning.

I knew Gwen back in Memphis. She was my nutrition teacher at MSU. Then years later I participated in weigh down workshop. She definitely derailed. Sad story!$$$

I have listened to many of the WeighDown recordings. As someone who was an overweight child with emotional eating struggles, I liked the message. BUT... red flags galore went up when she'd talk about "making it to heaven" in association with a behavior. As a believer and follower of Jesus Christ I know the truth... it is not by anything I've done, but only by His grace and sacrifice that I am eternally saved. I have continued to have a fascination with this story. Gwen Shamblin died on the day my mother died. May 29, 2021. After a long emotional day, I came home from being with her when she passed and I learned about the plane crash. I was shocked. Re: Michael.... I thought it was strange the only Christian music was from Remnant people. But some of Michael's music is absolutely gorgeous. A definite true talent there. I hope he has much success and I do hope he will find comfort walking with Jesus who says His power is made perfect in our WEAKNESS because his grace is sufficient for us. I hope all will know the truth, as it sets us truly free.

Talked about him like he wasn't standing right there... WTAF? This poor dude has got some baggage to unload. I hope he's found a good therapist. It's awesome that he's talking to Phil and getting this all out in the open, but he needs a professional to help unpack some of that trauma. That woman was broken long before she started getting high on her own supply. Religion was just the cover and permission she needed to do what was always lurking under the skin. The hair and makeup were just adding new paint to a mask that already had a lot of miles of use.
I stopped going to church a long time ago. I still have my faith, but I don't believe in evangelism or making a spectacle of prayer or worship. It's a personal thing, a personal relationship, and to make a big public show of it is the opposite of the purpose and antithetical to Christ's teachings. I doubt that a single one of these big mega-church leaders and pastors would recognize Jesus if he were standing right in front of them. If somebody tells you that God told them to do something, run away, fast. If you're hearing a disembodied voice telling you what to do and say, or telling you that everything you do is right and righteous, that's not God or the Holy Spirit, it's mental illness and you need to seek help.

Just want to encourage you in the Lord encourages us in His word not to forsake assembling(meeting) together . As the end times draw closer, this is important.
Yes.. there are a number of false teachers and false prophets walking around and yes even in so-called Christian churches... small and big alike. But trust Jesus' example and the Holy Spirit to guide you in all truth... which is in the Holy Bible.

I had her book and my church did her diet and video series. Someone loaned me one of them once, but I never really did it.
This is fckng heartbreaking 💔 & than some for I have a 15 yr old daughter whom showed me a side last summer that legit had me feeling for the 1st time ever regret over having her, both were accidents & I took precautions & it hit like my sadistically abusive 'mom' whom I was sickly enmeshed w & thank God finally died, it's truly a whole other level of hurt when it's a MOTHER & CHILD period.

I heard Gwen on a news program many years ago. She referenced Nazi Concentration camps in order to prove any one could loose weight. Her thought was if you were starved you lost weight! I immediately wrote to her about it as my Grandfather was a camp survivor! She replied that she was sorry and that she was just trying to make a point! I still have that letter. She was an awfully misguided and dangerous person! My belief tells me though that she is resting with the Prince of Peace now🙏
