  • As Shanghai remains locked down amid China’s biggest Covid-19 outbreak, residents are taking to social media to vent about a shortage of food or how they’re bartering with neighbors. Anxiety and hunger are prompting many to question Beijing’s pandemic strategy.
WSJ explores how residents are scrambling to find food amid the strict lockdown and how the growing discontent could challenge Beijing’s commitment to a zero-Covid policy.

My hometown is a small city in China, but it is also under the same policy lockdown. It's even worse there. A starving resident tapped her pot at her window, expressing anxiety and anger that she had no food to put in it, and police broke into her home and arrested her. A kind young volunteer who helped residents make some vegetable soup because she could go out during work was also arrested. The reason is that those foods are not necessities for people. Students are besieged in the school, whether they are infected or not, they infect each other, one by one falls ill, food and daily necessities are in short supply, sick students fall into coma, no one cares, girls who are menstruating have no hygiene products, Crying when they're covered in blood, like all apocalyptic zombie dramas. Yes, Shanghai is already the richest and most civilized city in China, so. . . We ordinary people are already hopeless and numb. Sorry we have set human civilization backwards.

I am in Shanghai currently. I feel almost everyone has experienced a mental crisis ever because we have been quarantined for over a month. One of the most important reasons why people are in hungry is that some government officials and related food supply companies make a fortune. So effective food supply companies such as JD cannot enter Shanghai. People have to pay a great deal of money to buy food. One of my friends from Canada has paid 20,000 yuan to buy food, and even some eggs are worth 2,000 yuan. It is very ironic. 20 million people have to suffer such mistreatment because of light omicron. Many people with positive symptoms have to be transferred to Fangchang hospital. But you know, it's rainy days in Shanghai in April. The temporarily built hospital was even destroyed, but they have no other places to go. Furthermore, we can't speak out of our VOICE! All social media channels have restrictions. It looks like citizens' voices are unimportant! Everything looks great and recovering???

I have friends in Shanghai that haven't received water for days. Food is a huge issue. There's still a lot to be shown, much darker than what this video shows.
I can't imagine the people who are literally dying in their own homes because of serious medical conditions. There is strict, and there is TOO strict. There is reasonable and there is unreasonable. Unfortunately the government doesn't care. They would rather let the people die. 0 cases and being able to say they handled the situation is more important than people's lives.
There were actually two people who passed through Shanghai and came into the city of HangZhou and that caused a panic. In a moments notice the entire mall that these two people entered was locked down and no one was let out. Everyone had to get tested.

If anything good comes out of this, I think it is good to see some people in China finally waking up and questioning what the CCP does.

Don't know what to say. We were in lockdown for about 18 months on and off, I think. At least we were allowed to walk or travel 5kms to get groceries. Being stuck in a house or apartment with little food is a form of suffering. You might be "Covid safe" but end up sick from malnutrition and social isolation. There has to be a middle ground.

Event 201 brought phase 1 of covid pandemic. It didn't go away, they are resetting to bring in the next phase. Who is they? WHO, WEF, in the US CDC, NIH, HHS, FDA and the state "health" agencies.
"Just shut up and obey" they tell us.
